^^ haha, he just won the election last week haha... All the shit near GT is crazy, a different hold up every other day
12/14/2009 12:44:33 AM
yeah, i read the ajc daily during lunch. seems like every day there's a couple random shootings/home invasions/armed robberies. A guy was shot near my neighbor while mowing the lawn a while back. apparently 911 is joke, and the police may or may not decide to show up if you call them. 911 puts you on hold before even taking your call, then when they finally pick up they send your call through to dispatch, and dispatch decides how urgent it is. basically if you aren't bleeding its low priority. even still cops aren't too busy to write traffic tickets. its really making me question my decision to stay here long term. hopefully things turn around soon.

heading to oysterfest today - anyone else planning on hoping it's not a disaster?
2/20/2010 12:09:20 PM
bttt!would like to comment on two things:1) i'm praying for rain today. anything to WASH AWAY THE POLLEN. flew back into town Tuesday evening, and the pollen was so thick you could hardly see downtown as we approached landing. at first i thought it was just the haze from a hot day, or smoke from some random fire. but no, it was the particulates of pollen that are everywhere. my car was parked in the lower deck at the airport (covered, with no trees around), and it still was completely covered with pollen after 24 hours. ridiculous.2) hawks heading down the stretch towards the playoffs. fighting with boston for the 3-seed, can't wait to hit up some playoff games in a few weeks. WHOOOO LET THE HAWKS OUT? CAW, CAW CAW!

My parents will be in Atlanta next weekend, what are some good things for them to do? They have already been to the Carter Museum and the Aquarium. They are both 47, so they are still pretty young. Looking for recommendations for things to hit during the day and restaurants/bars for the evening. Thanks!
10/24/2010 11:46:50 AM
^ there's always the MLK Center if they're into American history, as a day activity. I always at least take people by Ebeneezer Baptist Church when they visit, as it's an interesting site that's off most people's radars. Other option, as I believe it's supposed to be nice weather this weekend, is hiking up Stone Mountain. Hiking to the top is a manageable grade, and the view of downtown is spectacular on a clear day. The option I'm choosing this weekend is to drink beer and watch football all day Saturday, which is always a good oneAs for restaurants, here are a few moderately nice ones that I can recommend:- Dogwood (on Peachtree, in midtown/downtown)- Shaun's (Inman Park)- Serpas (Inman Park)- Miller Union (Westside - a little pricier, but the food is tremendous)- The Iberian Pig (in Decatur - some of the best meat dishes in town, and great drinks. If they're carnivores, they'll appreciate this place for sure)All of these places have good cocktail and wine lists, with entrees that go ~$18-30 per.
10/26/2010 8:18:42 AM
Thanks! Really appreciate it!
10/26/2010 11:16:25 AM
I am considering moving to Atlanta for a job - can anyone offer some advice on where a good place to live near North Atlanta might be? i guess within 0-30mins of Lenox Square. Prefer to stay along I85 the further out you go - just for ease of getting back and forth to Charlotte... but it's not a necessityI really don't know much about Atlanta at this point and it could end up being 6months to a year before I do anything... but if any of you have any details about the area it would be appreciated.
10/26/2010 4:45:48 PM
where exactly will you be working? 30 minutes can mean 1 mile or 20 miles away, depending were you live/work/time of day/day of the week/phase of the moon
10/26/2010 6:33:43 PM
Yeah, and unless you really really want the yard/suburb thing I would totally recommend living in town and NOT up 85. It sucks there and the traffic really sucks. Plenty of condos cheap around Lenox and it also has it's own Marta station so you could live anywhere near Marta (midtown would be perfect, tons to do, middle of everything, and 3 stops from Lenox)
10/27/2010 1:10:58 AM
I believe this would be the address...3475 Lenox Road, N.E.Atlanta, GA 30326I was more or less trying to figure out what the better parts of town were. And if I have to go out away from that address I would prefer it to be in the general direction of Charlotte (so it doesn't extend my drive if I have to travel back that way), but it doesn't make that much differenceLinks to some decent appartment/condo websites would be cool.
10/28/2010 3:53:18 PM
there are plenty "better parts of town" but in Atlanta, as long as you dont live in the ghetto, your number one concern needs to be "where can I live and get to things that I want or need to do easiest".If your job is at that address then I would DEFINITELY live in Buckhead, not even a question. There are dozens of places you could live around there and not ever have to drive to work, which is an amazing thing in Atlanta (would be #1 on my list of things to look for, unfortunately, my work is in Duluth which sucks ass so no way I'd live there). Buckhead has everything you could want as long as you arent wanting a suburban type lifestyle. Are you looking to buy or just rent?
10/28/2010 6:03:52 PM
+1. remember you're going to be living in atlanta, not charlotte. in general surface street traffic is going to suck anywhere near where the perimeter crosses any major highway (ie the intersections of I-285 and I85, I75, I20 and 400). take a look at georgia navigator or google maps traffic to get a feel for how the traffic flows. generally speaking, the ghetto areas include most anywhere south of 20 (there are some nice patches on the south side, but watch your back) and the southwest side of ga tech. also, pm sent[Edited on October 28, 2010 at 7:03 PM.
