pawprint - they're more commonly known as glorioso around here. Here, they are often purple, red and white. What I've posted below are my ideal, and what I'll have. They were my grandmother's favorite flower, and the stargazer her second favorite. Sadly, I still have a hard time appreciating stargazers, because they were so prominent at her funeral.

If you look at the lower left flower, you can see it's very reminiscent of a tulip...petal shape, placement, all that...where's BigHitSunday when you need him?
6/7/2006 12:08:40 AM
and more pretty tulips^no i understand where you'd think it looks like a tulip. but i believe its most likely a lilly. i'll email it to my daddy and ask, he'll know[Edited on June 7, 2006 at 12:09 AM. Reason : .]

dudeTulips...oh man I'm going to go bananas this fall planting tulips in the yard for spring. I don't know why they please me so much. Might be because they're so bright, but they're also a really orderly and neat plant (as opposed to, say, irises)

i highly reccomend buying the bulbs from a landscape supply/flower bulb company - if you're going to be planting them yourself. (ive seen bulb packs of 10 and 30 and higher)http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Shopping_and_Services/Home_and_Garden/Lawn_and_Garden/Nurseries/Bulbs/http://www.tulips.com/bulbs.cfmhttp://www.tulipworld.com/tulip.asp?contentloc=/find/flower_wizard/index.htmlhttp://www.growingtulips.com/cat-Tulip-Bulbs-45.htmhttp://www.colorblends.com/Tulips,cfcf62c8be638c7db18ba22aa918b200 has some great picshttp://www.woodenshoe.com/browse.cgi?page=searchresults&basecategory=tulipshttp://www.johnscheepers.com/catview.cgi?_fn=Category&_category=Tulips[Edited on June 7, 2006 at 12:16 AM. a personal favorite (i totally need to get up with my dad about taking care of amaryllis' and getting some of these) :
6/7/2006 12:17:31 AM
Thanks for the links. My gladioli are dying, and I can't figure out why. Might be dogs pissing on them, since they're near the mailbox, or it might be because the bulbs weren't the best (lowes...i figured we'd be ok to buy seeds and bulbs from them >.< ).This year's gardening has proven to be an unbelieveable learning experience.
6/7/2006 12:17:51 AM
Ahhh thanks for the tip...
6/7/2006 12:19:12 AM
for seeds, id say you're fine with lowesand for common plants like daffodils, i wouldn't worry about buying bulbs from there eitherits when you get into specialty flowers (especially ones youll be potting and keeping in doors) that i think its worth a little extra cost to get bulbs from a source you know specializes in them
6/7/2006 12:21:06 AM
I didn't even tangle with indoor plants this year. For one, there's nowhere in the house with enough sun/windows that get direct sunlight for more than 20 minutes. We did go to campbell's nursery, and I sated my desire for geraniums I've got morning glories, convovulvus, and african daisies in hanging baskets, and a bed of misc flowers that got badly fucked up in a storm, and that's just now starting to come in.
6/7/2006 12:22:54 AM
see ive been going to plant nurseries since before i was old enough to walk, so if/when i do ever buy plants flowers itll be from either a nursery or like whole foods, cause ive seen a pretty good selection at the chapel hill store
