12/29/2021 8:15:05 PM
More than half of college football history is teams just claiming national titles without any national title game
12/29/2021 8:29:21 PM
UNC would have had Credit Union Holiday Bowl Championship Rings made
12/29/2021 9:52:18 PM
This just enrages you as a sports fan. Bowl game canceled because a few players have the sniffles.
12/29/2021 11:41:21 PM
more enraged about 800,000+ people dead, tbh
12/29/2021 11:55:59 PM
lol all the team was wearing holiday bowl champions hats.

^^ not that TKE's was any better, but that's such a lazy argument. As if 800k covid deaths of primarily older, sickly and obese individuals has anything to do with 18-22 yr old elite athletes playing sports outdoors (where transmission is nearly nothing). Not to mention both teams are presumably at least mostly vaccinated which probably reduces transmission rates even further and certainly reduces the chances of significant disease among this group to even more nothing. It is absolutely absurd that at this point in the pandemic with the data that we have, that we are acting like our collective hands are tied by onerous Covid protocols in college and professional sports and cancelling games left and right. And then if you call into question the complete lack of common sense applied here (the same was true in the CWS), then suddenly you are Covid denier and don't care about nearly a million deaths. Give me a fuckin break.
12/30/2021 8:51:28 AM
And ^ this is why you're going to see the NCAA abandon testing requirements for athletes soon after bowl season is over. The bowls have been a complete disaster this year.
12/30/2021 9:20:54 AM
^^ if you call a deadly pandemic “a case of the sniffles”, you’re gonna get a response like that
12/30/2021 10:17:55 AM
F it, go full UNC and make rings and hang a banner.
12/30/2021 10:35:10 AM
^^ It's not a deadly pandemic for 18-22 yr old elite athletes, that's the point.
12/30/2021 10:40:14 AM
^^^^ The NCAA isn't going to be removing testing requirements any time soon, especially in the face of Omicron. They may scale them back/limit them, but they're not gonna go away until Covid is no longer a major PR issue
12/30/2021 10:54:07 AM
^^^i mean they usually get bowl rings]
12/30/2021 11:09:54 AM
Is the ncaa even the one who sets any of these testing protocols? Isn’t it the conferences?

Those young and healthy "obese" men are not in any real danger of serious Covid. The bottom line is because of the poor leadership and communication on Covid for the last two years across the board (both administrations have been awful), American society has lost their freakin minds. So we all collectively play Covid theater with a dozen different Covid protocols in every facet of life that make no fucking sense anymore. They still require school teachers to sanitize desks between classes FFS! Every high-school basketball mixtape has 10 kids wearing masks on their chin as they dunk on someone's head and scream in their face from 2 ft away. Kevin Keatts has a mask around his neck on the sidelines that he takes on and off repeatedly while yelling at the team, then jumps in the huddle with it off to talk to the players. It's fuckin dumb as shit and I am tired of these arbitrary ass rules and protocols robbing these athletes of what they have earned because noone with brain will just say enough and install some common-sense safety measures and move the fuck on. We were literally robbed of our only major sport championship in my lifetime because of this shit while half the fanbase shrugged their shoulders and said "dems the rules, players shoulda gotten vaxxed". Fuck that. Now we are watching half the bowl calendar get wiped out because of this same ridiculous shit.
12/30/2021 1:06:46 PM
^yup I agree but I am sure Jusin#'s and thegoodlife will disagree vehemently and name call you and rolly eye emoji you because thats what they do. Hell they may try to get the powers that be to suspend you.

12/30/2021 2:35:08 PM
i thought covid killed off all the susceptible old people back in 2020? yet more people have died from covid in 2021 vs 2020? look, nobody likes having all this stuff shut down, but acting like this isn't a serious disease this late into the pandemic makes you sound pretty ignorant. yesterday was the highest single case count ever in this country, and with new years coming up, that's not going to slow down anytime soon.]
12/30/2021 3:52:53 PM
beyond tired of the “it’s only the old and unhealthy who die” crowd blithely using that line as if those who died deserved to die the same old and unhealthy who could come in contact with a collegiate athlete who has an outbreak on their team
12/30/2021 4:32:19 PM
^^Still with cases, Hospitalization and Death are all that matter. Everyone is testing either because they want to travel, go to some event, work etc. and they are testing positive, people are freaking out and going to hospitals because they have been conditioned to think testing positive is a death sentence. They are clogging ERs and being sent home because while a fever, soar throat, cough and body aches suck chances are you can treat from home with over the counter meds and a lot of rest.
12/30/2021 4:44:47 PM
more than 1,000 people are still dying a day
12/30/2021 4:48:37 PM
Not 1,000 college athletes a day. But feel good about yourself for stopping a healthy senior from playing in one last bowl game.
12/30/2021 4:59:41 PM
we’re coming up on 2 years of a global pandemic and you’re still choosing to be extremely ignorant on how a virus spreadsall in defense of an exhibition game
12/30/2021 6:01:12 PM
12/30/2021 6:09:15 PM
ah ok, the most daily cases during the entire pandemic is because "everyone wants to travel". i guess more people travel for new years than thanksgiving or christmas?i'd argue that it's the most daily cases because we have a new, highly contagious strain, in large part due to a bunch of idiots still not taking this seriously over the past 2 years. i guess you'll just have to wait for someone you know to die from this until you think it's more than "the sniffles"[Edited on December 30, 2021 at 10:53 PM. You're a fucking moron. Go live in your bubble then. We are 2 years into an URI pandemic, no where in any data is Omicron as deadly as Wuhan COVID or Delta. Its highly transmissible and its basically a bad cold, in the middle of cold and flu season. Yet if you and your ilk had your way the country would be shuttered and somehow we would beat a virus that no free nation has beaten. Canada is already locked down and yet they are breaking records on Case Count also. I am sorry how long do we have to take this fucking seriously, we have ruined millions of small businesses, kids, athletics etc. We have 800,000+ while tragic over half are from people within 5 years or beyond the average US life expectancy. This is a pandemic now of the Elderly and immunocompromised the rest of us should get back to pre-COVID behavior. I am sorry that some of you have PTSD but we have multiple treatments and a vaccine that prevents death 90% of time.
12/31/2021 9:14:23 AM
Some of the old fucks in here could care less about ruining the experience and memories of millions of young people in this country, including all of the athletes who are being screwed out of the chance to win the CWS or a bowl game all so they can virtue signal and stay obese and unhealthy in their old age. It's beyond sad.
12/31/2021 9:57:06 AM
ah yes, anyone who doesn't think covid is "basically a bad cold" must be obese and want to shut down the country and ruin the lives of young people and stay in a bubble. keep drinking that koolaid.

It's possible to take COVID seriously while also thinking the ncaa protocols are performative nonsense. The idea that college athletes in large open stadiums are at any serious increased risk of death beyond what they are already exposed to in classes on a regular basis is absurd. It's also ridiculous to think that the fans are at risk of exposure from the athletes. And, if you are *really* concerned about fan exposure, I can't think of anything worse than putting them inches away from 30-40k other screaming fans for 4+ hours, after having them travel via airplanes and other public transportation methods, only to return hone to their communities via the same methods. A 20yo with sniffles 200ft away is the least of your fucking concerns at that point.[Edited on January 3, 2022 at 7:58 PM. Reason : ]

NCAA had nothing to do with the bowl getting cancelled
1/3/2022 9:33:32 PM
Whether it's NCAA, a conference, a school, a bowl committee, or Rick Moranis, the point still stands: these "protocols" are performative
1/3/2022 10:04:18 PM
If the entire UCLA defensive line room has COVID, they don't need to be lining up and playing a football game, even if the chances of death are low. Sucks we couldn't get a replacement opponent though.[Edited on January 3, 2022 at 10:09 PM. Reason : .]
1/3/2022 10:09:22 PM
I'd draw a distinction between players being too sick to play versus being paucisymptomatic. One is genuine safety, the other is performative at this point.
1/4/2022 12:08:10 AM
So which one of the two decimated the UCLA defensive line room, dr burro?
1/4/2022 12:12:24 AM
How the fuck should I know? I imagine that's part of what frustrates people, too, not knowing if a player is out because of bullshit do-nothing "protocols" or being actually sick.
1/4/2022 12:48:20 PM
is it a good thing that positive cases are known, therefore limiting the potential to spread?
1/4/2022 1:27:19 PM
Honestly, not all that much when you consider that NCSU had just traipsed 100+ players and coaches through 2 international airports and then took them to fucking SeaWorld... to have them play in a stadium with 30k+ fans, cheek to cheek, screaming their heads off... Seems to be a terrible way to find out that out that DE Schmuckatelli got the rona
