I just watched severance in the last few months, so I was late too, but I felt the whole thing really compelling and kept me watching, I loved it
6/9/2023 10:38:45 PM
Compelling is a good way to describe it. I liked it. Just felt like a long wait for any payoff.

Silo renewed for season 2. Maybe in the off-season they can teach Rebecca Ferguson to hold an accent

What are y’all’s silo theories, if you haven’t read the books?I keep thinking the weird trees in the apple orchard have to mean something
6/14/2023 10:05:17 PM
^my first thought was that it was just an altered CCTV loop and the ones that have made it outside and "cleaned" have survived. Did the latest episode offer anymore clues? The author of Silo is a Charlotte native. ]

Episode 8sHoCkEr!

I started out loving silo. The big “reveal” in episode 8 wasn’t the least bit surprising, and ep 9 was almost 100% filler, didn’t move the story along at all. Also, as someone said, Common is much more prevalent in the later episodes, and is just so fucking bad. I still like it, and interested to see what comes next, but it’s definitely fallen off IMO. 8 eps instead of 10, and no Common, would have been fantastic
6/24/2023 9:47:55 PM
I don’t mind common. He’s stodgy but I think I fits his characterSPOILER I do feel like they’re milking the mystery way too much. Do all this just to show us the same video on the drive??[Edited on June 24, 2023 at 10:45 PM. Reason : ]

*********Spoilers for Silo finale*******So the display inside the helmet is the lie, and that’s what gets everyone to clean, world really is fucked, and the shitty heat tape around your gloves is what lets in the poison air to kill you, is that all right? Seems like a convoluted route to be relying on secretly non-sealing heat tape. Also doesn’t exactly make sense that the main displays would have briefly shown the “fake” display after the power reboot a bunch of episodes back. Also, they linked all the screens to show everyone the “real” footage, but it literally only linked to the screens in the secret janitor room that the people linking didn’t even know existed??? Lots of silos! Overall I still enjoyed it. I’ve also downloaded the book it’s based on, Wool, to give it a listen and maybe/hopefully get some more insight. Gonna cancel Apple TV for a while now, will get it back if they ever actually get around to another season of this and Severance, but with the writers strike, could be a while.
6/30/2023 1:07:35 PM
^ I think correct on all.I’ll say I enjoyed a season one of something where there was actually some answers and progress in the last episode. Feel like every show now is a slow burn to nowhere that gets canceled before any real answers.
6/30/2023 7:05:20 PM
^^I know one big spoiler from the books and extrapolating from that I don’t think the “inconsistencies” you identified are inconsistent— but I have no direct knowledge just extrapolating. Also my understanding is this season is basically half of the first book.Thought this season was awesome though.
7/1/2023 9:26:34 PM
I’m about 1/3 of the way through the book, it is made much more explicit that the entire outside of the suit is made from the heat tape.
7/2/2023 2:31:02 PM
I am trying Hijack out
7/11/2023 7:38:38 PM
We’ve been hate watching HijackEvery episode seems to have implausible things stacked on implausible thingsThe only thing that could possibly explain it is that at the end, it was all part of some elaborate what If type of training exercise
7/16/2023 11:36:52 PM
^Same. I figured a show like this could only stretch out so long unless there were tons of plot devices or red herrings or stupid decisions made and that's pretty much what is happening. But it's entertaining enough that I haven't found myself yelling at the TV. Idris Elba is just too big and intimidating to play a character like this. I have a hard time believing this guy can't just whip everyone's ass on the plane.
7/17/2023 9:04:13 AM
Im the outlier, I loved Hijack

Does anybody else have issues with the audio on Apple TV+? I have to turn the volume way up compared to what it’s at for most other apps/channels. Dialogue is difficult to hear but the sound effects and music are loud.
8/20/2023 1:01:33 PM
Did you remember to turn on your hearing aid????????Burn
8/20/2023 7:24:01 PM
There was an article about this the other dayhttps://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/17/technology/personaltech/subtitles-streaming-shows-speech-enhancers.html
8/20/2023 9:51:07 PM
^ yeah that makes sense…audio suffers in compression. Which has pretty much always been the case when watching a sitcom vs a movie on TV…the audio is way different. But this seems to be specific (or more apparent, at least) to Apple TV+ for me on my tv. Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc all seem pretty consistent. ^^ I would roast you in response but typing from my phone with extra large font is hard enough so I’ll hold back
8/21/2023 6:10:42 AM
My own hearing aid could be glitching but the issue i have is audio/visual sync issues especially on Hulu always seem to get about a quarter second out of sync.
8/21/2023 9:37:21 AM
My old ass also has this issue with just about everything steaming (not out of sync like ^, just can’t hear wtf they are saying). One thing on the Netflix side is that I believe it always defaults to surround sound output. So if you don’t have surround sound, you can change it, and might make it a little better (I still usually end up putting on subtitles though)[Edited on August 21, 2023 at 10:03 AM. Reason : $$$]

With Shrinking and Ted Lasso, Netflix has a lock on very positive with a tone of sadness style comedies. That said i liked Shrinking more than I thought I would.Second season of The After Party was good although not as good as the first. Bw this and Black Birds, Paul Walter Hauser is an apple mvp. He was great in both in wildly diff roles.
9/8/2023 6:46:29 PM
I couldn’t really get into Ted lasso and I liked shrinking even lessStarting to really like foundation— I hate hearing that viewership is dropping off for it
9/9/2023 8:53:33 PM
^^Not Netflix.
9/11/2023 6:36:01 AM
I'm a big fan of Foundation, but it's difficult for the casual observer to get sucked in (IMO). Shows like that usually suffer from lazy viewership.

Bad Sisters is about a year old…but I’m just now watching it. Pretty good imo

Anyone watch Masters of the Air yesterday? Only two episodes so far but I'm getting a Band of Brothers (but with a WW2 bomber crew) vibe. If the rest of the season is as good as the first two episodes, it will be really good.Only thing that is kinda taking me out of the moment is the main character (Buck I think?) -- the way he talks sounds like a bad Elvis impression. Every word he speaks, lol. Despite him being from Wyoming?[Edited on January 27, 2024 at 2:54 PM. Reason : ]

^^I read the book earlier this year and loved it. First two episodes are pretty much exactly as the book, except they did reveal a pretty major spoiler very early that was kind of a bigger deal in the book.
5/16/2024 3:24:02 PM
The show definitely did not tame it down. In fact if anything it amped it up a bit. I enjoyed some of the new different worlds that they visited, even if it was only for a few seconds when they peaked out the door.A number of plot points were completely new to the show, but I can see why they added them given they didn't have as much time as the book did to elaborate on some of the context. Overall a really good adaptation though.
