I have also been free from arrest. I'm glad to hear that you also overcame a bad situation in a broken system. Afterwards, a rep from NCSU told me I'd never get into another state school. Within a few months a person from UNCA told me I was exactly the kind of student they wanted. Glad to hear you overcame the experience. Frosh and jackleg are also doing well. I hear from or about them sometimes. That experience really shaped the person I became. It pushed me further away from centrist politics. Policing in America needs serious reform. I will always vote to cut police budgets because they can't be trusted to spend their money wisely or wield their power responsibly. Same goes for the legislature.

Yeah, that whole thing fucked up my life for a long, long time. Problems with alcohol/substance abuse, a dysfunctional family, and a lack of financial support meant NCSU was never going to be the place I'd finish school, so moving to CA to "start" over from scratch at 20 years old was one of the best decisions I ever made. I'm 36 now, so while it seems like a lifetime ago, I'll never be able to forget the experience, and I'm grateful that all of my legal problems aren't still affecting me today. It's funny, but back when I was applying to transfer schools out here in CA, NCSU refused to release my transcripts even after I had fully paid of my loans, so I had to basically beg the office student of conduct (you know who I'm talking about) to release them, but they only did based on one very specific condition: I NEVER would be allowed to apply to/enroll at NCSU again, even though I technically "dropped out" before I was officially kicked out for Academic probation/disciplinary reasons. It's because of the help of my community college/undergrad/grad school profs that I'm teaching today at the CC/university level, and I feel like I'm helping to make a difference, which is pretty cool/validating-- especially during a pandemic when so many people are dealing with really tough problems that go way beyond the mess I unwittingly made for myself. I think being a college drop out and a 'victim' of an overzealous/abusive legal system helps with my ethos, and it definitely made me work to become a better person. It also taught me a hard lesson: what you say/do online may not feel "real", but it can lead to real world consequences. I kinda see myself in all of those young Trumpers who stormed the Capitol because clearly they weren't in touch with reality and thought that what they were doing wouldn't have any consequences or was all just in "good fun". I mean posting inside jokes on a "hacked" NCSU police blotter is hardly the same, but at the time, I had no fucking idea how seriously it would be taken and being charged with a Class H felony is about as loud of a "wake up" call as they come.If I ever end up publishing the memoir I'm working on (incredibly doubtful given how lazy I am ), I think it would be cool to actually meet the three of you and interview and hear what your experiences were like, since to this day, you're all just strangers who had to deal with the same BS I did. I'm glad you came back and posted; I had been wanting to see how you have been.[Edited on February 26, 2021 at 3:52 PM. Reason : Glad we all seem to be doing "OK".]

Yeah, that "the internet is real" lesson has given me some perspective on the last 16 years. I have no sympathy for those deluded Trump chumps, though. But I get what you're saying.
2/26/2021 3:58:37 PM
Oh, I have ZERO sympathy for any of them and I hope they actually go to prison, because what they did- knowingly/intentionally or not- changed the course of US history and lead to the deaths of five people. I can just partially empathize with the way they fell into that trap because I was incredibly naive/lost/ignorant/angry at that age, too. If I had been born 18 years later, under the same set of circumstances, I could have easily fallen for QAnon conspiracies and Trump's lies as some sad/sick way of finding a "community" and some form of acceptance. Not trying to defend/justify their atrocious behavior, or excuse my own shitty actions; I just can relate to the mindset, which is one of anger/powerlessness/loneliness. I get it. I hang out in a lot of counterculture communities. Hell, I'm a high ranking official in a loosely knit organization that some people call a cult. It's based out of your town. It's hard enough not to do the wrong thing for the right reasons. Add to that how easy it is for people to misinterpret what it is I'm trying to do and I can see how folks could get caught up in some shit that preys on their need for community. I judge people based on their words and actions, though, not on their intentions.

Speaking of NCSU, after that whole thing I interviewed for a few jobs at the university primarily out of spite. It was an amusing experience.[Edited on February 26, 2021 at 4:54 PM. Reason : - ]

Wait, so how many people got charged in that police system thing? I only knew about the West Raleigh Three.IBFrosh shows up and utters some profanities at me for asking about it.And jackleg even locked my best ever thread because of his police experience. I suffered as well.]
2/26/2021 7:54:11 PM
I heard somewhere that snewf was back ask him about it.
2/26/2021 8:17:16 PM
Why didn't I think of that?!

Facebook is great for keeping up with my relatives that I haven't seen in person for 20+ years. Twitter is great for being a little more open since I only have 1, or 2 relatives that on very rare occasions like my tweets. TWW is great for not holding back. We can talk politics, porn, sports, etc and have no worries about repercussions.

Oh shit, sup Snewf! We have missed you on TWW. Welcome back. Man, it sounds like you've been keeping yourself busy.
2/28/2021 6:53:19 AM
Thanks, EMCE. It is honestly nice to be back. This place is so much less anger inducing than Facebook because it isn't algorithmically driven to make me angry.Yeah, I guess I HAVE been really busy. I've got an IMDB page and there's a period of time where I was an NPR radio producer. I became a scrum master and agile coach (snagged some certs) and led a marketing team through an agile transformation. I used to drive a forklift and work in a factory. I did field marketing for a tobacco company for 3.5 years. I feel like I've lived several lives.https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3889981/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1https://www.pri.org/people/nick-helinghttps://www.redhat.com/en/blog/agile-evolution-how-red-hat-applied-agile-principles-marketingUJustWait84 got me thinking about whether I should do a This American Life styled piece about "the incident." I need to create something or I'm going to go mad locked up at home.I'm also currently restoring and modding a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport I call "The Heep" into an overland offroading vehicle so I can escape to the wilderness and never come back.
