Nickel is its own position in modern football. Corner, slot corner and nickel are all different.

dk I've never seen the guy play. Sounds like an imitation Derwin James. If he's like 1/4 that good then that would be great.

I like your 1/4th analogy. If you don’t mind, i am not bullshitting, can you participate more?

Like for instance, if we had a certain person at a certain position that was 1/4th player Jordan Gross was as Tackle. Or we had 1/4 player at certain position as Luke was as MLB. Is that how good this Derwin guy was?

brown does not fit this, but its starting to look like theyre targeting athletes/speed guys now after the chinn and pride picks (i expect they think the DE is in this group as well, although imo thats more inconclusive). which, its at least a strategy, and thats more than you can say for mid round hurney picks in the past

corner from Florida International in the 7th. 7 picks, all on the defensive side of the ball.

As expected. Kinda surprised they didn't get a LB though.

Most picks in the modern era that were all defense, so not sure how expected that was. Wouldn't have been shocked for a tackle or tight end in the 6th or 7th, for example.

That was after the Brown pick on the first page of this thread. I think most Panthers fans would have said we'd be spending 6 or 7 out of 7 picks on defense in the draft. We were a sieve on D last year and we lost a bunch of dudes.

I get having only 3 pre-season games because of corona concerns, but week 15? I don't remember ever seeing a flexible date game that late in the season

Also not a fan of the news that the Panthers are eyeing the land of Charlotte Pipe and Foundry downtown if/when they move to Stanly County. Bank of America stadium has had so many renovations done to it recently, there's no need to build a new stadium. The only reason get a new stadium is to get a dome to try and bring the Super Bowl; apparently our current stadium is built in a way that makes adding a retractable dome impossible. I'd personally really rather just keep our stadium. It's a ton of money to replace a stadium that 1) isn't *that* old and 2) has had a ton of (expensive) renovations to it very recently anyways. I guess it's better than the speculations of moving the team to a different city outright, but I think BoA is a really good stadium.

^in regards to the Flex Date I thought they always had Saturday games in Mid-Late December since College Football is over and the Bowl games that people care about won't be until 30th of December through the first couple of weeks of January.

I still think lots of holes 8 wins would be a phenomanal job by Rhule. I think we will be in 6 to 7 range. Get the Falcons in the first half which could bode well as they tend to start slow.

Retractable domes are the biggest waste of money. All the ones built rarely, if ever, open the roofs to play games. If you're gonna build one, save a ton of money and build a regular dome. If Tepper wants a retractable dome he can pay for it completely by himself, because they are nothing but status symbols for the owners

hard to gauge the health of a potential player on your team when you're not allowed to meet with them

"How does Cam Newton not have a new team yet?"

Few reasons....

1. Questionable health issues and teams can't work him out.
2. Teams were never going to sign him until after the draft.
3. Now that teams have taken QBs in the draft, no one is going to make a signing until they can see what they have on the practice field.
4. Cam ran an offense built around him in Carolina, another team isn't going to revamp their offense to fit his skills, so can he be successful in another offense?
5. Cam has already said he wasn't trying to go anywhere to be a back-up, so is this a situation where Cam is hoping for an injury to a starter so a team's hand is forced?
6. Cam is a polarizing figure, both on and off the field. Think you'll need the right coach and organization to handle that.

I actually think Cam would be well-suited to pull a Winston and pick a franchise and sit behind a veteran QB for a year or two. I really expected him to end up in Pittsburgh sitting behind Big Ben for a year or so(or just waiting for Big Ben to get injured again), chance to prove he can still do it and isn't washed up.

Well Bridgewater isn't heavily invested in any pyramid schemes (that we know of), so he's already better than Brees.

^^ Is it? I thought that at first but we've been adding legitimate players. Robby Anderson, re-signing Boston, a few others moves we've made.

I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing.

For the record I don't like Boston or Apple signings, but I 100% don't think the Panthers are tanking. You don't sign Bridgewater and Anderson to tank.

contracts don’t mean shit if you go 0-16 and your fanbase turns on you

it’s not like the coaches salary counts towards the cap

A 7-year contract means you have a little more leeway than normal and you aren't expected to compete immediately. There is about a 0% chance Rhule is gone after one year no matter what the team's record is.

As a side note, kuech is now a part of the scouting staff on the Panthers. I'm happy he's sticking with the organization
