He dies after a shoot out with Bats, right?

Comparing these movies to Collateral is like comparing the Wizard of Oz to Crazy, Stupid, Love. Both are great films, but in very different genres.

Baby driver isn’t bad, but it was def kinda over-rated. Without rewatching I’d prob give 8/10. Maybe 8.5 if i rewatched

He gets shot when he and Jaime Foxx are wildly shooting at each other, it's pretty explicit.

so when he gets shot in the head but continues sprinting around town like Robert Patrick in Terminator 2, you don't have any issue with the realism there?

i guess he gets shot sometime around the 3:00 mark when the lights briefly go out? definitely isn't explicit

They immediately show a blood bloom on his shirt and he drops his clip. You see the blooming even bigger when he sits down.

Im commenting on the "realism" of an assassin movie and don't remember the head shot as well, just commenting you are meant to think he dies from the gut shot, not the head wound that looks more like a graze.

That said Collateral is an excellent movie and does a great job of the trope of making the city a character.

I thought he was already on the verge of dying, and once he realized he was out of ammo, he was like "oh well fuck it". I didn't remember if the blood was already on his torso or not. But he got shot right in the head or neck up in the skyscraper beforehand but that didn't seem to even slow him down, it seemed to just bloody up his entire neck.

you seem confused. Apocalypse Now was an example of a near perfect movie, in response to BanjoMan saying Collateral was a perfect movie. Getting shot in the head and getting up and sprinting around the city like Tom Cruise did in Collateral was unrealistic as fuck, and so I brought that up. Sorry you think it wasn't unrealistic?

Nah I don't remember that specific scene well enough to comment, but I remember thinking Collateral was a near perfect movie.

Actually when googling the headshot thing, I found some random internet guys excellent write up about how Cruise is a slave to pattern and plans, that happens to also explain why he stays with Foxx after the car is damaged. It never even notice the double tap/single tap on the train door until reading this.

start around the 2:10 mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkCVtHZvv8Q

I mean it's hard to see but yes? Looks like it caught him above the ear. If it has been more than a graze he would have been missing a chunk of head right? Cruise had been shown to be super highly functioning, so based on the hour before it isn't shocking he could still function at a high level after that.

If you're worried about realism, they both walked away from a car that rolled 3 times. But I think the real situation is you're holding an action movie to too high of a realism standard. It's a movie about an assassin with weirdly specific task and near super human abilities. I agree that apocalypse now is a great movie but if I spent my time judging the accuracy of portrayal of the Vietnam War of prob give it a lower grade.

i just find it odd when people apparently get shot in the head, and 30 seconds later are sprinting around, it's my opinion

Fair opinion. I think Mann wanted you to think it wasn't a shot that did brain damage, but it's fair to think he did a poor job showing that.

I biased I guess bc, like OP, I think collateral is pretty great.

There are certainly qualities to movies that go beyond the genre, such as how well it is shot, how it is directed and acted, and the script (let's not forget those guys). Collateral of course fairs extremely well in all of these categories, particularly the directing and performances, as the other classics. However, in terms of judging movies as a whole, there are aspects of the genre that group them together. For a hitman movie, collateral is in my opinion up there with the best.

Regarding realism, people talk about this film and praise it in large part due to its realism as a hitman movie. For example, him walking into a crowded club at night and quietly taking people out until he gets to the target heavily influenced the entire genre, and is inspired by how things actually happen in the criminal world. His rules for meeting the cartel boss, are again, highly realistic. "Hitmen" (to use the term broadly) don't willy nilly have a business card and meet with people face to face to discuss a conspiracy for murder. Idiots like Joe Exoctic do that and get caught.

Due to the differences in the genre, I don't think that one can make a point for point comparison with something like Apocalypse Now or Wizard of OZ and make an accurate assessment of its significance. That's like comparing Dylan to Kanye or the Rolling Stones.

Like I said, he dies in the shoot out with Foxx, which is also realistic for that situation. Vincent had just gotten a chunk of his ear blown off up in the building, which is clearly visible. Plus, pistols aren't nearly as accurate and reliable as they are often portrayed in the movies, and the low caliber (fact check?) that Vincent had prolly wouldn't make a direct line through that steel door if they even pass through at all.

It's like that old WWII saying, "even amateurs can get lucky, so kill them, too."
