I'm 6'5" and even I haven't said "people shouldn't recline", people should do what they feel. But people should know that, on many planes, reclining greatly increases discomfort in an already uncomfortable situation, despite what the earls of the world think. But it's not their fault, at least not wholly, it's the airlines fault for cramming rows closer and closer.

I sometimes prefer the budget airline because the extra legroom upgrade is cheaper than the extra legroom upgrade on the major carriers (I just never use them on anything with a connection, so many horror stories)
11/11/2019 10:17:31 PM
I flew American for work recently and the upgrade to the “more space” option was less than $40. Seemed reasonable.
11/11/2019 10:28:55 PM
I have to pay extra for exit row seats. this seems like bullshit since I am providing a service to the plane/passengers. Virile strongboys who need leg room should get free exit row seating
11/12/2019 8:29:38 AM
^^^^ there is absolutely a difference in leg space and seat quality per carrier. check seat guru if you don't believe me. alaska uses euro style super thin recaro for instance, with padding about 2" thick vs delta or jetblue that's around 5". also, frontier (and all the budget carriers) is almost all narrow body jets because they don't take cross country flights directdelta
11/12/2019 12:39:15 PM
Those leg numbers are actually seat pitch numbers, so you have to subtract out the seat thickness. That ends up with delta and the cheapies being basically the same same on leg room. When I sit all the way back, my knees are about 24-25" from the seat. So with a standard of 26" (31"-5" padding or 28“-2“ padding), you can see why reclining makes a difference. [Edited on November 12, 2019 at 1:07 PM. Reason : E]

Is that supposed to refute my post or just an add on to yours? Either way it doesn't answer the leg room question, as I said.
11/12/2019 1:41:09 PM
was just an add on. I'm pretty interested to know the hinge height of these various seats vs the average tibia length. when a seat in front of me reclines, I lose a bit of tray table space, but never any leg room. I'm assuming this isn't true for carriers I don't frequent.[Edited on November 12, 2019 at 2:49 PM. Reason : and if that's not a fair assumption, what else are people bitching about? tray table space?]
11/12/2019 2:48:30 PM
I only fly a few times a year and everyone around me reclines their seats. As do I.I didn't realize some people actually get annoyed about this?
11/12/2019 2:57:37 PM
you've never heard of people not liking it when the person in front of them reclines?(x) doubt
11/12/2019 3:01:30 PM
^^^you may not notice the reduction in leg room but I'm pretty sure every carrier reclines back towards the person behind them (instead of say, sliding their own seat forward). Youre losing leg room you're just not tall enough to notice. It's prob only 1-3“ at knee level, but that can mean going from skimming the seat to active compression, or from sitting normal to being forced to spread or tuck.
11/12/2019 3:05:08 PM
i go from touching to having my knees straddle the seat, which invades the space beside mein the seats with the extra legroom it doesn't bother me though
11/12/2019 3:17:50 PM
you should really buy a better seat instead of manspreading
11/12/2019 3:20:23 PM
Nah I'm not paying a tall guy tax
11/12/2019 3:23:36 PM
i've already posted about how i buy extra legroom
11/12/2019 3:32:00 PM
max recline to vegas
12/2/2019 3:40:54 PM
That's on-brand for u
12/2/2019 6:36:04 PM
12/2/2019 8:09:15 PM
I fly exactly 24,999miles per year apparently
12/2/2019 8:10:19 PM
12/2/2019 8:11:43 PM
12/3/2019 6:24:23 AM
I don't fly that much compared to some, but still plenty (~35K per year). I'd love nothing more for airlines to just get rid of the option. People who recline are the worst. Probably own white framed sunglasses and squat their trucks.
12/3/2019 7:06:14 AM
It's funny to hear what other people picture when they picture an inconsiderate asshole.Side note: apparently, the "tall guy tax" now includes complimentary drinks, so I will be hammered on my red-eye back from Phoenix.
12/3/2019 8:49:50 AM
i recline enough to where my head doesn't fall forward when i'm trying to sleep
12/3/2019 1:18:27 PM
Although I am not super tall, I'm 6'1 and got long legs. I honestly don't notice any difference with reclining the seats but usually always take an isle seat and stick my legs out. This way I am only annoying the flight attendants.
12/3/2019 1:30:24 PM
I decline, if I’m in FC I sure nuff recline.Southwest and away my reclining ass goes. Most times cause my fat thigh hits the button on when we rolling fast.

Still not seeing very many people doing this on monday morning and friday evening flights.

We sort of eventually got around to discussing this topic on the show: https://www.noexpertspodcast.com/2020/01/episode-52-were-no-jetsperts.html

BUY AN AD
2/4/2020 9:32:04 AM
I will buy no ad, sir. Our podcast is available free of charge and contains no advertising. I've barely mentioned it on the Wolf Web in the two years we've been producing it. The recommendation was targeted--precise! I will not be lumped among the hucksters hawking their cheap goods and dubious services!
2/4/2020 10:19:57 AM
So you're saying it's a failure and you're too poor to afford an ad?
2/4/2020 10:22:22 AM
insofar as any hobby without commercial interest is a failure, yesand my children, accustomed as they are to sharing a single dry bean for dinner, would surely starve should i spend my pennies on ad "views" dashed against that wall whose bricks are ten regular users with ad-blocking extensions
2/4/2020 10:25:18 AM
Since you don't get any benefit from a listen, can you give us the summary of the reclined seat discussion???
2/4/2020 10:33:53 AM
Reclining is mostly fine. Jim and I do not ourselves really recline because we don't need to, but we don't begrudge anyway in front of us reclining. If you're tall, we understand your frustration. If you really want some extra leg room, maybe go for the exit row.Anyone who uses the Knee Defender is a fucking asshole. Whoever came up with the Knee Defender is a fucking psychopath. That's about the extent of it.See also: message_topic.aspx?topic=643078[Edited on February 4, 2020 at 10:37 AM. Reason : ///]

https://www.foxnews.com/travel/american-airlines-passenger-claims-assault-punch"My name is Wendi Williams. It was flight AA4393, from New Orleans to Charlotte, seat 20D. You clearly want me to do this quietly through a DM. I tried 3 times to do this quietly. I’ve lost time at work, had to visit a doctor, got x-rays, and have has horrible headaches for a week"

lol they both intentionally made themselves uncomfortable just to prove a point. they're both dumb.
2/13/2020 6:33:22 AM
This is actually a great idea. Next kid that sits behind me kicking my seat for 2 hours is getting sued!!
