Fan participation at the game last night sucked so bad in the second half. By 4th quarter maybe the stadium was at 50% capacity? I mean yeah the quality of play on the field sucked, but it was a tight game dammit!

Weather was gorgeous, close game...I have no more excuses for the fans that don't come back in.

Random thoughts:

- Ecstatic with the defense. A great pass rush really covers up other holes. Larrell Murchison is a beast.
- Going in, I thought our DBs were going to get burned - glad I was wrong.
- Feels like we can sustain drives more with Hockman vs McKay, but really wish we could score when we make it to our side of the field. Our only TD was off a gadget Thayer Thomas pass.
- This game wasn't as close as the score indicates.

50% is super exaggerated, but it yeah it was kinda dead. I think most people in the stands were just waiting for the other shoe to drop and us fuck the game up.

2nd half no shows do seem to be getting worse year after year...but hell....compared to other ACC schools our in game environment is still one of the best.

Clemson is always better.
VT is usually better but not this year.
FSU is usually better/equal but not this year.
UNC's is actually really good this year but that's an outlier.
UVA's is actually really good this year but that's an outlier.
The rest are travesties. ( I guess Wake isn't bad for what they are)

I didn't attend the game and watched on delay (so I admittedly might have missed some crowd shots), but I couldn't tell there was a second half dip in attendance. If anything, I'd think the crowd contributed to the atmosphere in the 4th quarter, where Syracuse went from 3rd & 6 to 3rd & 16 due to two back to back false start penalties.

felt like we dominated that game but walked away with few points to show for it. great defense. offensive calling was a little odd, should've run some more but I guess Hockman got some good passing experience.

as far as the crowd, it's fall break so there's that. it definitely did feel quieter than normal, and there were big empty sections. they also do hold big blocks to give veterans/military on campus for military appreciation day - could've accounted for some of that.

it was decent, but nowhere near the Louisville night game a year or so ago. I don't think they did a great job getting the word out that it was a white-out.

Btw i had positive things to say about Hockman, at least compared to MM, but a point in ^^ favor, I'd love to hear what Hines was saying on that play where he got completely hung out to dry and lit up. He seemed.....unhappy.

Hockman is an improvement but still think we should take our humps and roll with Leary. He has the arm and can make all the throws.
