Dumb is Rapinoe up there talking like she and Mbappe work at the same company doing the same shit, but the reality is that the men's world cup players are on a different level and bring in more money than the women. PERIOD. They SHOULD get paid for that level of competition as it currently stands. It is the most competitive sport in the world, and they should be compensated for that as they rightfully are.

What just kills me is that during the entire Women's World Cup Finals, the announcers were discussing and talking about how it is a new and growing game compared to the men's.... because it is! Based on that fact, it makes sense that the world wants to tune in to see the men more than the women.

So, where is this cash going? It should go back to the players, right? So, doesn't it make more sense that the men earn more than the women? At least until the women start to really compete with cash and viewership.

Except that it's not stupidity. Their argument is all over the place, and they are taking numbers out of context. For example, the 2018 champions earning more than the women is a factoid that is commonly thrown around but this comparison is invalid due to how much more money the men brought in at the 2018 WC.

I certainly don't hate women, but this is just a press stunt. People should be focused on shitty maternity leave for women and not having secured job security after child birth. Those are the problems that are facing American women that are painfully pathetic considering how the rest of the world, particularly Europe, handles these situations.

Plus, I already mentioned how Women's tennis players fought their way up the salary flag pole and earned their right to more dough. Women soccer players can do the same. It is just the simple fact that the entire world will turn in to View Messi and Ronaldo go toe to toe, but that's not the case with Rapinoe vs... some random Dutch girl. That is their problem at the moment. It is the relative difference in the popularity between the two sports. The problem isn't discrimination.

I am a bit dissapointed in Rapinoe, but not in her performance (obviously), but that she had a chance to talk about gender equality on the biggest stage and promoted her own personal agenda.

As I mentioned earlier, things such as maternity leave and job security are issues that still to this date face nearly every working mom in this country. Women that announce pregnancy will either get fired or get their hours cut, and they have no security for maintaining their jobs after child birth. These are, IMO, issues that are more pertinent than the women's team trying to squeeze out a couple more bucks due to a publicity stunt.

Why does the argument that the men bring in more money so their prizes should be bigger keep coming up? FIFA is not a business, they are there for development. Lower prizes will not damage the viewership, participation in, or quality of that tournament. Just share the pool between both the men's and women's tournament evenly, higher prizes in the Women's World Cup would, WITHOUT A DOUBT, improve the overall product for everyone.

There is 0% chance of this coming to pass of course.

Also, it's not up to you or anyone else what Rapinoe uses her stage for, so stfu

I have still yet to see definitive proof that the us women bring in more total revenue than the men. All of the articles and arguments saying that the women earn more base it solely off ticket sales and not on things such as network contracts, sponsorships, etc... and that's all money in the bank that the men are responsible for.

And the world cup bonus differential is very relevant. The fact that the French made more than the US Women is brought up constantly by commentators, politicians, and advocators for the "equal pay movement". I watched the women's final, and the point was mentioned at least twice by commentators.
