That's very impressive. What's your diet plan once you hit 175?

just keep counting calories. 2100 per day should result in maintaining weight with no exercise, so i'll keep exercising and probably still lose weight, but much more slowly. there's still some fat around my midsection i'd like to lose, but it's not really a priority. i'm really ready to be off this huge calorie deficit. i've got the triathlon in a month and then a 77 mile hiking trip planned to start the next weekend and i don't want to be in a big deficit leading up to those.

Oh good, I was really wanting a progress pic but didn't want to seem creepy.

I think your exercising will go to another level once you start eating at maintenance. I'm excited to see your continued progress.

I've only lost 1 pound since I started working and lifting weights. My appetite has been out of control. I upped my calories from 1200 to 1500 and I make sure to get at least 90g of protein. Hopefully my body will adjust soon.

Congrats! Awesome work man!

Since having kids 4 years ago, my weight has crept up as well. I hovered around 180ish for the last 10 years or so, but weighed in at 196 last week. Time to do something about it. Honestly want to get down to a solid 165. I'm 5'10.

I started running again last week, and found a local free fitness group that meets before sunrise every morning and worked out with them yesterday. We eat pretty healthy overall for breakfasts/lunch/dinner, but what I struggle with though is snacking- and making "good" choices.

What are some healthy snacks you guys enjoy that actually satisfy your hunger for a good while?

I don't think of foods as "healthy" or not. I just eat what I want and adhere to the calorie count.

I will agree with this, and it's how I tend to view things as well. Calories in, calories out. I guess I was wondering what low-cal snacks you guys like, and if you've found any that are "surprisingly filling".

Few things that work for me: Baked tostitos scoops and Jack's salsa, jerky, some fruits (careful because some are calorie dense), boiled eggs, pistachios, quark, canned chicken with hot sauce, chilly cow for my ice cream fix, chewing gum and trader Joe's green tea mints.

Main thing is to get a food scale and weigh everything that isn't in a single serve package.

173.6 lbs this morning. First official morning weigh-in under my 175 lb goal. Changed my calorie goal to 2100/day. Should continue to lose a little very slowly with my exercise, but I'll keep weighing myself daily and see if I need to adjust to find an equilibrium. Feels good. I'll get some photos and stuff together this weekend. I appreciate all the encouragement from you people.

Is this F3? What is a typical workout? Is it mainly just running, or a split of running and full body workouts?

I've actually randomly joined up with the local F3 group as well for the last few weeks. Feel free to ask/PM any questions you might have. It's mostly just a metric BUTTLOAD of a variety of types of pushups, burpees, situps, crunches, squats, dips, etc. with some running and/or hill repeats in between, etc. Only F3 workout I've done so far that involved additional equipment has been a kettlebell workout.

While the fitness/working out is the draw, it's the fellowship and faith aspects that keeps most coming back.
With that said, the group is very military-like in their mannerisms, communications with each other, workout style, etc. It's pretty interesting. But VERY well organized.

I'll make it happen this weekend.

Never thought I'd do any kind of athletic competition. Still not sure I'll do another, just because I'm not a fan of big organized events with lots of people, but we'll see. I'm the type of person who would get the same satisfaction from just running, biking, and swimming on my own during the same day, but maybe I'll discover I enjoy the race atmosphere.

I feel like it's more of a supportive atmosphere, than a competitive one. Most people are racing against themselves. I always seem to do a bit better when I'm surrounded by people though. It can also be nice to have an official time as well.
But I'm a female, so the experience may be different for men. Hope it goes well.

I'm much more excited for the hike I'm starting a few days after the triathlon. I guess that's causing me to kind of look past it.

Did a final practice swim today. I need to remember to just pace myself and I should be fine. If I jump in and go all out, I just end up out of breath and don't actually go any faster.

Here you go.

Photo on the left is August 2016. I don't know what I weighed here. Definitely over the 356 lbs that I deemed my starting weight. Pants are 44 waist size. Shirt is a 3 or 4xl.

I started on March 27th, 2018. I took that date because I looked back through the photos on my phone and I took a picture of a new pair of running shoes still in the box.

On the right is March 15, 2019. I was 174.2 lbs this morning. 32 waist pants that are kind of loose and a medium shirt.

resting heart rate went from the upper 60s to the low 40s

haven't had my blood pressure checked by a professional lately, but it's significantly lower on the home cuff dealies

i'm excited to see what my HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and glucose numbers are like when they check our blood the next time at work

my first workouts were 20 minutes on the treadmill at about 2.7 mph and i was fighting for air. i run a 5k three times a week now like it's no big deal (still kind of hate running, but it's getting better with the nicer weather).

after my triathlon and 5 day backpacking trip, i'm going to get serious about strength training in addition to my cardio. i'm focusing more on my macros (higher protein) and body composition.

only other goal i have on the horizon is a 100k bike ride in June, but I'm probably ready for that right now. a century by the end of the year would be cool. i feel like after a certain point, the long bike rides are just a matter of conditioning your ass and learning to properly fuel your body before and during the ride.

Dude! You are fucking killing it!

On my own success story, though nothing even close in comparison to NRR, it looks like I’ve FINALLY healed up my hip flexor issue at least to the point where I can really hit the weights again. Up to 3x10 on deadlifts at 185 and while it feels so light (all time max is 475) I used to not be able to do 65 lbs without it destroying my psoas for days. I’m taking it SLOWWW but hitting chest, back, shoulders, and arms hard and it’s the first time in about two years I’ve felt like I’m actually lifting weights again.

no. i have an expensive Filson double belt because as a fat guy, i was in a constant battle to keep my breeches up and that thing helped a little. i do have and still wear that belt regularly. the end of it tucks into the belt loop in the middle of my back now. it looks ridiculous, but it's like a trophy for me. i am planning to buy another Filson in the correct size. the belt in the picture is a cheap one i had to buy in the middle of my weight loss while i sent the Filson off for a repair (the leather keeper loop broke, Filson is an awesome company). the one in the pic has had several extra holes punched in it as well.

[Edited on March 16, 2019 at 10:04 AM. Reason : think i counted 13 new holes punched in my Filson last time]

Great work dude! You're going to crush it. I kicked off the calorie counting and F3 workouts about a month ago now and seeing your progress really motivated me. Thanks and well done.

I'm down 8lbs in 4 weeks. Started @196 and down to 188. Goal weight of maintaining 160-165ish. I've just been limiting to ~1500cals/day and doing the F3 workouts at 5:30am M-W-F, and either spinning or running on T-Th. I had a few days going over my calorie limit, but overall happy with my progress.

Peter got me 10lb rubber weights for deadlifts and I'm so excited. Probably more excited than I should be.

I'm down 45lbs. I have a feeling these last 15lbs are going to be a bitch to lose.
