^+1 surface book 2 is on point. I'm still ~ on the hinge, but the ability to pop it off to real tablet mode and skip the $900 iPad pro closes a lot of gaps.

Huh? GitHub is not and has never been (to my knowledge) open source. They obviously support open source in a big way, but the version control product itself is closed.

Microsoft could pull a Xamarin here and open source GitHub. My guess is that GitHub's codebase is not really set up for on-prem deployment right now and it would take a lot of work to get it there.

^ We run on prem GitHub and they've been doing that a long time.

I meant open source as in they host every open source project on the planet therefore have a relationship with those projects. Not necessarily that GitHub code base is open source.

IBM sold PC business to Lenovo, POS section to Toshiba. These two deals lose them a lot of weights. Then they switched to AI Watson and blockchain, but grew very slowly. Hybrid cloud is the new direction. The Bluemix is the first platform among big companies to provide mobile app solution to business owners.

OK, I'm wrong. Another company steals a SVP from IBM.

This is like a newly-married couple get divorced after only a month. I don't think it will happen. Also, how could Google control Red Hat across the whole continent? Unless Red Hat move from Raleigh to Silicon Valley.

And the rumor has come that the CEO of Red Hat is gonna succeed Ginni Rometty to be the next CEO of IBM.

"After Red Hat (RHT) filed a proxy on Friday evening related to its pending acquisition by IBM (IBM) that mentioned three other parties interested in a potential purchase, Stifel analyst Brad Reback said he believes that "Party A" in the filing is Microsoft (MSFT), that "Party B" is Google (GOOGL) and that "Party C" is Amazon (AMZN). If he is correct with that assessment of the identities of the parties, it is a clear indication that Red Hat shopped itself to the "logical players" during the negotiation process, said Reback, who believes there is still a chance Google may come back and make a bid for Red Hat given the change of leadership in the Google Cloud unit."

Here is the filing: https://seekingalpha.com/filing/4255491, it's interesting to read the play by play of all these discussions with other companies (starts on page 34) and some of the golden parachute/executive incentives (pages 75-78).

I think the two are in the honeymoon stage now. They both make each other much more conservative.
