I love Uncharted 2 & 4 and TLOU.TLOU 2 is probably the most divisive game (in my own head) I've ever played. One one hand its sense of place is astonishing. I really felt like I was in post zombie apocalypse Seattle. The graphics team and level designers are on a whole other level. On the other hand its nihilistic revenge story was too 2000 and late for me. I really really wish I had liked it more. I generally love fucked up sad shit but the characters just couldn't draw me in. I've even read about the creators intentions and how he watched a hanging as a young child and wanted to take revenge. That is awesome! The epilogue had some amazing gameplay but by that point I just couldn't understand Ellie's actions anymore.Anyways, this guy is smarter than me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB20A8CitRU and sums up how I feel. Wish I had his job.

With the show coming out im just curious if rheyll stick with the fairly dark ending? I know being dark is a badge of honor theses days, but then you get a show on with too many owners/notes and they chicken out. Also do we know if they expect to encompass the whole first game in one season? And plans for part 2 it goes well, or is this a mini series.
9/29/2022 3:57:36 PM
If they try and do one game per season, they are gonna run out of content to draw from quickly. They'll also have to pull a Game of Thrones and kill off Joel in pretty much the first episode of season 2. Only way that would work out is if it is planned to be a miniseries from the beginning. They should def keep the dark ending(s). That is one of the core things about these games that makes them so atmospheric. Losing that changes the whole feel of it (although that hasn't stopped TV studios in the past).

I hope that they do not try to cram all of TLOU into one season. It'll be interesting to see. I wonder what Pedro Pascal's terms are considering The Mandalorian season 4 is in development. Also, they have to keep it dark. That's what makes the game so enjoyable. I think HBO is the right network to stay true to the original vision. ]

well, i'll be!

I was wondering how they were going to handle those "puzzle solve" moments that show up early in the game tutorial chapters. It almost happened in the collapsed stairwell with Tess deciding to scale through everything while Joel and Ellie waited. And I thought for sure we were about to get a "Joel pushes Ellie across the water on a door" moment early in the Hotel. Also, i feel like some of the game nods are almost "too" on the nose. The bandage wrap, the scenic overlook moment out over the golden dome, just to name a couple.

Gotta give the fanboys something to nut over or complain about.
1/24/2023 12:08:09 PM
^^there was a scene in the apartment in ep 1 (ellie is bored) that was basically shot for shot of a cut scene from the game
1/24/2023 12:44:06 PM
I was surprised to see a Curtis and Viper reference show up. That was a pretty obscure reference.
1/24/2023 2:53:09 PM
Since asked in the show thread but it's spoilery, I think we have a Bloater inbound
2/6/2023 7:23:53 AM
Yea, if you watched after the credits, for next week's ep, it definitely showed a bloater. I guess that's what they had trapped under the rubble in the building they were searching?I kinda hate it that they skipped Pittsburgh. They travelled a LONG way seemingly unobstructed.I'm digging the show though. A little less-depressing "The Road."

2/6/2023 11:54:55 AM
I just did, and now I'm working on part 2.Damn, part 2 is dark.
2/6/2023 12:55:05 PM
It's also 3x longer, spoiler alert?
2/6/2023 4:55:06 PM
So I’m a little disappointed to see that they’re going to spend the second to last episode covering Ellie’s backstory. That either means that the season finale is going to cover David and his cannibals and wait until next season for the St. Mary’s showdown, or they’re going to skip David and just go straight to the St. Mary’s showdown.
2/19/2023 11:03:29 PM
Ha we are moving all show discussion here so you can discuss spoilers? W/eeeeeeeeeee
2/20/2023 1:38:10 PM
I think it's been pretty clear that the game thread would be an anything goes, spoiler rich discussion.I will not require any spoiler alerts in here. If you don't want to know, back out. That being said, ^^i think you're right. Looks like we are going to go from Ellie's backstory straight into the Firefly Lab and final chapter territory. Which kind of sucks because some of those chapters where Ellie is on her own were some of the best and could have added some relevant character growth.
2/20/2023 1:51:45 PM
Maybe the episode with Ellie's backstory will flash back and forth with her dealing with the cannibals in present time? Given how true to the source material they have been up until now, I don't see how they could leave the cannibals out. That was such an iconic part of the first game and a major part of Ellie growing into a hardened survivor.
2/21/2023 12:14:17 PM
i could see that too. They probably didn't want to spoil anything with Joel so they only showed previous of the flashback. Also, just saw that there are 9 episodes in this season. So with a flashback episode we still have two remaining to deal with snow, cannibals, and firefly labs.]
2/21/2023 1:43:15 PM
Mannn I decided I wanted to do a new game plus but my Playstation didn't save my full game! Have to starry over or midway
2/24/2023 10:05:16 PM
The David episode looks like it's going to be the game beat for beat, which is good. I was kinda hoping they'd get someone well known to play him, but oh well.
2/27/2023 9:42:07 AM
From the other thread, ellie even being alive after this season is a spoiler, although maybe one people could guess at.I'd advise to refrain from any suggestions of future evens that are based on your game knowledge. I think thats how we treated GOT thread. [Edited on February 27, 2023 at 12:27 PM. Reason : E]

Admittedly, Joel being alive for most of the next season would be a pretty major spoiler. I don't think anyone who is watching this and didn't play the games is expecting him to get beaten to death with a golf club in likely the first episode of Season 2.
2/28/2023 11:57:16 AM
cool to see Troy Baker in last night's episode.also, i was definitely mashing X in my mind trying to free Ellie from David
3/6/2023 8:48:20 AM
Awesome episode. Honestly felt like one big cut scene, with Joel sneaking around trying to quietly take out David's crew, and Ellie escaping.
3/6/2023 11:38:57 AM
I really appreciate the show not trying to throw an army at these two. I mean it would be impossible to mimic the game in that way. I’d be interested to see what my body count was by the end of the game. Would have to be over 200, right? I think Joel’s body count so far is like maybe 10, which is still kinda high in real life, but still.
3/6/2023 3:08:21 PM
while i agree i am kind of disappointed at the number of clickers, bloaters, etc that have been utilized. I feel like the show has not translated the level of anxiety i got in some key moments of the game. And i get it, they can't waste minutes or episodes of Joel sneaking around killing 6 clickers in an empty office building but there needed to be a little more proof that these two had the skills to make it from Boston to Wyoming untouched.
3/7/2023 10:18:55 AM
Yea agree, I especially remember they showed the leaning tower in Boston at the end of ep ?1? with foreshadowing of terror, but then it was kinda nothing till they got to the museum.
3/7/2023 10:27:21 AM
So weird hearing that voice in the showA boost to a ladder AND the giraffes!! #FanService[Edited on March 12, 2023 at 9:28 PM. Reason : E]
3/12/2023 9:14:35 PM
They had to do the giraffes! Prob the most iconic scene from the first game. Also, the nurse who had a very small line when Joel broke in to the operating room was the voice actress for Abby.
3/12/2023 10:40:50 PM
Oh yea I wasn't complaining!
3/12/2023 11:19:24 PM
loved the finale, tons of fan service. My wife thought it was a snooze fest.
3/13/2023 9:02:27 AM
^I really wish I could be watching this show with fresh eyes.My dad didn't play the game, and he's been digging the show.Man, now for season 2. It's gonna suuuuuck. And it's going to be expensive. I think they are going to have to completely retool the story. It would be difficult to contruct an entire season over what happens in 3 or 4 days. This isn't 24.
3/13/2023 2:12:57 PM
Plenty of flashbacks in Part II that could be an entire episode. I don't think they'll have any trouble.
3/13/2023 2:31:37 PM
LOU2 is super long with lots of content.PLAYING LOU1 is only like 7 hours and they stretched that to 8 (plus the dlc ep). LOU2 is like 30 hrs.
3/13/2023 2:40:35 PM
^^Good point, I didn't think about the flashbacks.
3/13/2023 3:06:43 PM
They could open the season with a few Ellie episodes, hit the big moment at the end of episode 3 and do a full second half of the season on Abby. Season 3 opens with Ellie and Dina at the farmhouse and Tommy showing up to reveal Abby's location.Damn, i'm gonna replay TLOU2.
3/13/2023 3:54:39 PM
Never played this game but loved the show. Should I play the game now? Was planning on PC (vs PS)
5/19/2023 11:45:52 AM
Do you like sneak/survival games? If so sure
5/19/2023 5:43:09 PM
^^I’ve heard the PC version is pretty buggy, but I bet they’ve had time to work most of the kinks out. It’s a very cinematic game, meaning that there’s only one track you pretty much follow the entire game, which is fine. The details in and around you are amazing. There’s just enough difficulty to let you progress but make you have to repeat some things a few times. You’re just playing through a really good story. The game includes a lot more detail than the show. (With the exception of Bill and Frank’s love story of course).
5/20/2023 10:25:10 PM
I would say yes. and then immediately play TLOU2 so you are not "spoiled" ahead of season 2.
5/22/2023 2:28:32 PM
Part 2 is a harder rec for me just bc it's 3x as long and can get repetitive. That said, after swearing I never would, i started a replay recently.
