I think there is a non-zero chance for a Yurt year three. He's fit in with Keatts better than expected and seems to like college more than is let on. Plus he'd be the de facto starter at the 5 and our key player next year. Non-zero still doesn't mean likely, of course. I'd put it at about 15% right now.

I wish he would, but I think he's already shown enough improvement that he's a first round pick at this point.

If yurt comes back we have a scholarship problem.

I mean, we already have one but yurt would make it worse

I know it's the easy thing to blame because Yurt was out so long this game, but this dude is not the savior of the team. I'm glad we have him, but he is still soft AF and gets about 20% of the rebounds he should given his size (and especially given the size difference with the teams we have played), he consistently gets baited into jumping for block attempts (resulting in a foul or easy shot) and is a flat out disaster anchoring the press. When he is in, we may as well fall back into half court D because if they get past our point men in the break, it's an easy layup.

The real problem this game is that we played a 7 man rotation because Markell and Batts got sat out. That meant we had no defensive energy for closeouts and couldn't get into the break. It also meant Sam Hunt got big minutes which shouldn't happen anywhere other than my local YMCA pickup games. Couple that with Braxton and Al Freeman playing hero ball instead of feeding our bigs and we got fucked by a team that may very well make the tournament, but shouldn't be beating us at home.

"Yurtseven is our best player offensively and is a solid rim protector. It hurt him the most not having Johnson to run a two man game. Abu is the 3rd best big in this team and I don't see that changing. He had quite a few mental lapses today where he did a shitty job of blocking out/didn't bother to do it at all and gave up rebounds to short guys."

Didn't even read this the first time through the thread. I could not disagree more. Basically everything you said against Abu could be said about Yurt but Abu is a better perimeter defender and Yurt has a better offensive game. Narddog is by far our best big defensively/rebounding and can even score at a good clip this year if/when we feed him the damn ball. His offensive numbers will probably fall once we play bigger teams, but I don't see Yurt being able to hang with ACC teams either.

Of course he's not the savior, he's not a guard. But he is better than Abu right now.

Yurt is an extremely skilled offensive big. And while he doesn't have the lateral speed to be an elite defender, he's very good at altering shots from driving players. But he needs a decent point guard to play with to fulfill his offensive potential, and that's not Beverly this year.

Abu is a good athlete with limited basketball iq/skills. He looked absolutely awful yesterday.

There's no discussion that Freeman is our best defensive/rebounding big. He and Yurt have very different games in the post. Freeman is probably a better scorer in traditional post ups, but I think his size will be more of a liability on the offensive end once we play real teams.

From 1:11:48 to 1:13:08 we get hosed so bad on calls involving the same UNCG player. The first 2 were the worst.
