^I wasn't a huge fan of the first episode, but most shows pilots are different from the rest of the series, so I cut them some slack. The rest got a lot better.

I don't enjoy Seth MacFarlane comedy as a general rule, so I'm not gonna bother watching any more awful jokes.

it's better than TNG was in the beginning. i bet we'll see more of the stuff that made TNG great in season 2.[Edited on December 15, 2017 at 2:56 PM. Reason : .]

I mean, I guess it's better than TNG since they didn't do an overtly racist episode.

Episode 2 of the 2nd season. Star Trek would never touch that. "Primal Urges" if you go look it up on demand.[Edited on January 10, 2019 at 12:25 PM. Reason : /]

I love this show, it's my favorite star trek
1/10/2019 10:01:27 PM
It surpassed my expectations. And seeing the doctor and phlox on screen together was good. Ds9, Voyager, and Enterprise were represented tonight.

Second season certainly has a different tone to it than the first season, or at least a different focus. I feel like the 2nd season has focused solely on the crew and internal issues. Though looks like that is going to be changing starting with the next episode. SPOILER FROM LAST NIGHT'S EPISODE:Wonder if Alara is done with the show or if she went on hiatus to film a movie or something?
1/11/2019 9:41:11 AM
^maybe for filming magnum p.i. or the last summer?what was the pickle joke about
1/11/2019 10:18:07 AM
^It was a running gag in season 1 where the Captain kept asking Alara to open a jar of pickles, with her super strength, for him because he couldn't get it open.[Edited on January 11, 2019 at 11:27 AM. Reason : r]
1/11/2019 11:20:02 AM
Maybe the pickles are saying she'll be back (to open the jar).
1/11/2019 11:55:20 AM
They confirmed last night she is done with the show but left it open for her to be a guest star.Wonder if it has anything to do with her and Seth dating and then breaking up last year? Maybe it was just too weird for both of them to keep working together afterwards.
1/15/2019 6:28:51 AM
Alara dated Seth? Eww...Most recent episode was the first good episode this season. 1-3 were mediocre at best...Way too much relationship drama but I guess they’re trying to reestablish personas for a more long term arc?
1/19/2019 6:12:28 PM
i still think this is the better star trek
1/25/2019 8:36:55 AM
^^ Kinda odd if that's the case considering MacFarlane's past comments on Weinstein and Spacey. It may be all above board, but the reason stuff like Weinstein and Spacey happened is the notion of having to sleep to get ahead in Hollywood. Local stuff and there's a reason this is happening, but the Indiana legislature for example is pushing through a bill this session to make even consensual relationships between legislators and staffers unethical. Hollywood that'd probably be impossible because getting gigs there is all about who you know.I'm constantly an episode behind it seems and watched the one with the Krill undercover spy last night. Nice callback to last season, and she was completely right about Mercer's character flaws. It really fits him though to be a Union captain and be in love with a woman from the enemy alien race...and at some episode in the future, we're going to get covered another subject Star Trek would never touch, interspecies intercourse. The alien race that was hunting them looked like rejected costumes from Planet of the Apes.[Edited on January 25, 2019 at 10:19 AM. Reason : .]

this show is so good
2/22/2019 9:00:47 AM
That was a pro wrestling-level heel turn.
2/22/2019 9:59:13 AM
^Really? I thought it was pretty apparent this season that a heel turn was coming. He always seemed oddly reluctant to reveal anything about his home planet, always pointed out he was studying biological lifeforms to send back to his home planet, and they said multiple times the Union didn't know much about them but knew they were more advanced than any current group in the Union. Always felt it was pretty obvious they were collecting data on other planets to use against them. Did think the entire "relationship" with the doctor felt unnecessary, but I imagine it's going to be the thing that convinces Isaac to revert back and save humanity. ^ Well yeah, the character was always going to have some big reveal to that extent. He was humanized to a degree with his relationship to the doctor and her kids, and I figured he'd realize that.I know earlier he talked about "the mission", but he hinted at it very subtle in his farewell speech to the crew "and you all like me right now".I guess they go 2 ways with this: their plans are somehow destroyed and he remains uber-villain moving forward in the show with occasional guest appearances, or the doctor's youngest son's compassion for him somehow changes his programming. Probably the latter.I watched the week prior last night as well. First, it annoys me how they changed out one actress in the show for another and that new character has the exact same storylines as the prior character (same race, hard ass, I'm alone, no boyfriend, it's troubling). Second, this is something else Star Trek would not have to this degree, Klyden (Fred Johnson of The Expanse fame) is a really evil character. There's something going to happen with the Moclans in an adversarial fashion in the future and Klyden is going to be part of it.
2/22/2019 12:28:50 PM
^Already feels like the Moclans have had ENTIRELY too many issues already on this show. From having the kid, to choosing the sex, to stabbing each other in an attempted divorce, to porn addiction, to their laws about sexuality, etc. I really enjoy what Bortus brings to the show but I could certainly do without Klyden(though I do enjoy The Expanse) and their kid.

finally an episode this season worth watching

Cool episode last night! A little predictable but fun nonetheless.
3/1/2019 11:35:58 AM
This show is good, but it's falling into one of Star Trek franchise's flaws that Deep Space Nine successfully explored of how the Federation was always perfect without error, and DS9 showed in bits "not always the case". I'm not saying I want some evil government conspiracy underlying the Planetary Union because too many shows do that, but presenting them as perfect all the time makes in contrast the Moclans and Krill completely one-dimensional alien races because you always highlight what's wrong with them as perceived by the Planetary Union/the Orville crew/show writers.[Edited on March 4, 2019 at 12:05 PM.
