This is going to be amazing.

Amazing reviews so far, 100% on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing. I'm sure it will drop some but if it somehow stays above 95% it will beat out The Dark Knight and Iron Man for highest tomatometer rating for a superhero movie.Unless you count The Incredibles at 97%, don't think it could match that

Ok can somebody please explain to me why this movie is getting so much hype?
2/14/2018 2:07:01 PM
Well, a lot of it has to do with the cultural importance of the film. This is probably the biggest budget movie ever made with a predominantly black cast, plus black writer and director. It portrays both black men and women as smart, capable, fully developed characters, and not just one dimensional side kicks or villains, which are the roles that they have historically more often been cast in these types of movies. It’s important to have super hero’s represented that are not just white men. This the first major black super hero movie in 20 years (and Blade was a movie with 25% of this budget, and rated R, so not necessarily a hero young children could look up to). Beyond the cultural significance, it’s a marvel movie. They have a stellar track record. And critics have already seen it and given it overwhelmingly positive reviews.

You're missing some context here. There were several groups trying to bring down the audience score because it was a movie comprised of primarily black actors/actresses.
2/16/2018 7:47:35 AM
^Although it is sad that there are racist groups that would do that, it still means that the RT score would be inaccurately high by removing ALL negative reviews.
2/16/2018 8:30:15 AM
So the only 2 White Male actors in the movie are Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis I guess they are the Tolkein White Guys.
2/16/2018 9:51:20 AM
I'm sure you found that joke somewhere else. I chuckled.
2/16/2018 10:06:01 AM
of course they did

***********not a spoiler but I mention a mechanism***************I can't figure out if the plot twist was a little over my head or it was too easy to side with the antagonist. Either way, that indicates good writing.[Edited on February 16, 2018 at 4:07 PM. Reason : added the warning]
2/16/2018 4:06:05 PM
that’s why he’s the best villain that’s been in a Marvel moviethere were multiple levels
2/16/2018 4:33:15 PM
Gotta admit that I'm not that into comic movies, except for a couple X Men movies and the Dark Knight series...From some of the reviews, my expectations are creeping up to the Academy Award level. But I can't tell if people are being facetious in this thread. I understand the importance of a black superhero and an all black cast; but is there anything else I'm missing?BTW I'm not trying to minimize this with a flippant post, I'm just shocked to read the flood of positive reviews.
2/16/2018 6:32:28 PM
^Well there’s only been 2 or 3 wolf Webber’s that have actually seen it and posted about it afterwards thus far from what I can tell, all the rest has just been talk about the critics reviews. I guess I’m just a little surprised at the surprise to the great reactions. Most marvel movies have had great buzz and reviews, and yes this one may be getting a little bit more than usual, but this one does have the special cultural importance attached to it, so i guess I just don’t understand the reluctance to accept the reviews, when compared to other marvel movies. I’m a HUGE marvel cinematic universe fanboy, but I didn’t love Creed (same director) nearly as much as the reviews, I also personally don’t like Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a lot of people’s favorite MCU movie, so i can give you my opinion Sunday evening whether it’s just hype or not.
2/16/2018 8:41:09 PM
GREAT movie. I really enjoyed it. I won't call it my favorite Marvel movie because I know I enjoy Iron Man 1 and Winter Soldier more, but it's up there near the top, I'd have to see it again and reflect on it.
2/16/2018 10:43:54 PM
Take away the cultural impact. This is the first Marvel movie with a really good villain. That has always been their weak point. That, coupled with the simple fact that it IS a Marvel movie, then add back the cultural significance, and you have a huge movie.
2/17/2018 9:34:09 AM
Saw it today. Loved it. It was a 9am showing, and the theater was very nearly packed full. Nothing further to add. Carry on.

Why is there a panthers logo next to Jameis Winston?
2/17/2018 4:40:19 PM
spoilersAppreciated that the villain wasn't a 1 dimensional dude that just wanted power for the sake of it. He actually had a legitimate motivation that was admirable, just an unethical means of going about it. It's even arguable that had he won, he would have joined the Avengers against Thanos after seeing the threat it would pose to everyone on earth.Sidenote: So I guess Winter Soldier was just chilling in that hut beside that lake for the entirety of the events in this movie?

Spoilers*Why did Wakanda not help out their own people in Africa? They seemed more focused on American's issues. I also did not understand Killmongers reference to his heritage of slavery before he died? Wasn't he the son of a Wakandan?I thought this excerpt from a review was on point."Should T’Challa’s belief in hiding vibranium from his poor neighbors be considered heroic? Considering the breath and width of Wakandas superiority, they could have – at least – given the rest of Africa clean water and toilets."In general the whole idea of a hidden advanced society creates lots of plot holes if you think about it more than a few seconds.Did anyone else think "Hog Rider" when they saw the warriors riding the rhinos?
2/18/2018 2:19:26 AM
The black panthers were founded in Oakland. Also the sister was helping kids in Africa in the credits scene
2/18/2018 4:42:53 AM
^^ Erik has two parents, his mother is an American black woman.T’Challa did not decide to hide vibranium from the world, that decision was made thousands of years ago, it was not ultimately considered heroic. T’Challa’s decision to change was considered heroic.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, I’d say top 5 marvel for me, but definitely below Avengers, Winter Soldier, and Civil War. Personally, I don’t know how much replay value this one will have for me. One of the reasons I enjoy the MCU so much is how they translate comic book action to incredible real life action sequences, and that’s one of the reasons I rewatch some of them so many times. The last 45 minute battle of Avengers, opening boat scene and elevator fight in Winter Soldier, airport fight and final tony vs cap and Bucky in civil war. This one the action was fine (albeit a little too CG dependent), but not particularly memorable. But overall I’d say it belongs in the top tier of marvel movies.

^i think the poster that had that question understood that. His point was that if he was Wakandan, he wouldn’t have had any slave ancestors. But as AndyMac pointed out, only his father was from Wakanda, so he did have slave ancestors[Edited on February 20, 2018 at 1:16 PM. Reason : $$$]

Ahh ok, make sense. I still believe KM meant ancestors in the broader sense as African Ancestors rather than direct bloodline. But what you said makes sense. III

saw it last night in 3D. pretty good. Lupita_Nyong
2/26/2018 9:08:14 AM
Saw it, thought it was entertaining. Up there with the best of the MCU, but not as good as Homecoming. I felt like the kill monger character was a little over the top... but it's a comic book movie, so the fact that the villain made me think at all about a current social issue is a credit to its value.
2/28/2018 3:19:08 PM
So the events of Black Panther take place only a few days after Civil War, right? Post credits scene of Civil War had Bucky going into freezing after Cap breaks him out of the prison until they can get rid of his brainwashing situation. So since Bucky is in the hut at the end of the credits in Black Panther, does that mean he was only frozen for like a week?
3/2/2018 4:11:04 PM
We don’t know when that post credit scene takes place in relation to the rest of the film, could be days, weeks, months later. Losts of previous credit scenes have definitely had time jumps, Captain America was like 75 years (although they did start the movie in the present), Dr Strange in the scene with Thor, Guardians 2 jump to teenage groot[Edited on March 2, 2018 at 7:32 PM. 3/7/2018 12:11:45 PM
Just saw it recently. Solid movie but I do think it was a bit over-hyped. Opted not to read this thread until I saw the movie, but now after reading it, did have a question/comment about all of this Warmonger love.***SPOILERS***Why are people siding with Warmonger? His motives didn't seem admirable in the slightest. His father was an accused traitor to the Wakandan people. Hell the Wakandan guy that turned on the king's parents were only killed because of Klaus, the man that Warmonger's father was trying to help. Never understood why T'Challa didn't reveal ANY of this when he first appeared and accused his father of murdering his brother. I mean sure he brought Klaus's dead body but T'Challa literally saw him break him out of the holding cell they had him in. Once again, he could have mentioned this.***END SPOILERS***
