So here is a question about dog training. Lily knows all the basic commands, even some unbasic like "take a bow"But for the life of us we cannot get her to come when she gets out. She sees it as a game and I'm terrified she will get hit by a car if she gets out because she just won't come. Any tips on how to get a dog to fucking come back to you when they are out?

That's a very difficult one to unlearn, because they are treating it like a game. You've got to train her NOT to go past thresholds without your permission. Then she will treat it like a punishment and run for the house when you call her out on it.Best way to train for that is either in the house (door thresholds work great for this), or, even better, the garage door (from house to garage). Teach her to stay behind the threshold until you allow her. If she goes past the threshold, literally pick her up and put her right behind it where she was. This will train her not to bolt out of doors and gates, but instead look to you for guidance on when it is OK to go.If you can find a big enough dog park (like with trails and ish), you can work on leash-less training, too, where you train her to walk with you, without a leash. Let her get a little bit ahead of you, and then call her back, giving her a treat or something when she returns to you quickly. That will help with the "come back to me when you get out" part.[Edited on February 8, 2019 at 5:21 PM. Reason : ]

I feel like she is too smart for that shit. Like she knows come. She will do it in the house. But as soon as she gets outside she just wants to explore. We don't even have a dog park in the area that off leash training is possible. I wish we did she would absolutely love it!

That just means you have to seriously drill into her the concept of different spaces. In vs out. One room vs another. Trust me, it will transfer. It's much easier to do this training inside the house, vs outside, cause at least inside you aren't chasing her all over the neighborhood. It might even be worth trying this with her kennel. Put her in, and make her stay in until you allow her to exit.It is glorious to be able to open my front door and know that my two little dogs will NOT run out, and if they do, I only have to call them and they will get their butt back inside

Good idea with the crate. I will try doing that when I get her out in the evenings.

That is THE perfect time to do it. She is at her most out of control then. I would suggest that you try the crate technique at a time when she is calm, in order for her to have a frame of reference. Then step it up to when you come home. But the key is that you have to put her ass right back into the crate if she comes out. Don't let even so much as a paw cross the opening of the crate.

The biggest obstacle will be me staying strong and not getting her out to give her lovins as soon as I get home.

Ugh I want a bull terrier so bad for some reason

tell it to quit barking so much

We've gotten the barking under control. However, it's her spinning and compulsive licking that is getting bad. She has really bad anxiety. She went to the vet last week and they gave us some prescription CBD treats for her. It's been just about a week, haven't really noticed much of a difference, but we will see in a few more weeks.

fwiw i get my CBD stuff from here: https://www.lazarusnaturals.com/probably cheaper than the vet, and they do have a 40% discount for veterans if you are/know one.it definitely has helped my dog with anxiety

Get her some Xanax

^I think we may be working our way up to that. I like my vet's approach of trying the least sedative routes first. I want her to still have as much spunk as she can, just not be so OCD.Chloe was my sister-in-law's dog before she died. Unfortunately, in the years before my sister-in-law's death, Chloe did not get the best medical treatment. When she died, my parents took Chloe and funded getting her back to good health. Getting her back utd on shots, getting her spayed, having a malignant tumor removed. Then we took in Chloe in January. It has been a big adjustment for all of us, but we are getting there. I was hoping after a few months of being here her anxiety/ocd would fade, but there have been no changes.Went to the vet, started us with CBD, in a month if things haven't gotten better we will try something stronger. She's a sweet girl, kinda a dumbass. When she wants out I go and open the door for her, but she will just stand between the door and the wall and bark at me. I have to guide her around the door so she can go out.One night we got woken up to her stumbling around the living room with her head stuck in the sleeve of my snuggie.
