Not sure if I even care if TH is back next year. Dude basically quit trying this year.
3/19/2017 10:59:57 PM
sounds like keatts is working hard to recruit the existing players, and abu/dorn/freeman/kirk gave high regards to their first impression of keatts. It would be BIG to have henderson and abu for next year, as well as keeping rowan/johnson/kapita. Should get some clarity on the rest of the staff in the next week (keatts said he was picking guys that would work well with the existing team), and hopefully we start hearing good news on returning players soon. Keeping my fingers crossed that yurt stays too.
3/19/2017 11:05:53 PM
Players in draft are DSJ (gone), Rowan (gone), Yurt (who knows) and Kapita (back, but maybe transfer or overseas is guess?) Kapita also the only surprise
4/25/2017 6:05:03 PM
can't be upset about either frontcourt guy getting input...really would think both will come backglad to see Abu isn't listed, here's to hoping the offseason learning Keatts' system will help elevate his stock after the upcoming season
4/26/2017 8:44:32 AM
yeah with the new rules, no reason guys shouldn't get evaluated. kapita should be back unless he just wants to go get paid overseas and has no desire to play in college anymore. Yurt is more of a question to me...because he was pretty highly rated out of Turkey, teams could take a chance on him and stash him in the DLeague or overseas and hope he develops. since Yurt has connections and has already played professionally in Turkey, i wouldn't be too surprised to see him go play in Europe or wherever and wait on the NBA while getting paid.

This was on an espn article about the combine under a section called the all go back to school team, "A few others -- including BYU's Eric Mika, North Carolina State's Omer Yurtseven and Kansas' Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk -- run the risk of even going undrafted, though all three players have international ties (Mika served a LDS mission in Italy and Yurtseven and Mykhailiuk both have foreign passports) and that helps make them solid draft-and-stash options"

Do we just recruit dumbasses? Or does UNC just pay better? So frustrating to watch this year after year.
5/18/2017 1:57:24 PM
dude, it's a coaching change. kids leave.plus, kapita almost went pro out of high school if you remember. that league that was supposed to be in las vegas ran by a con artist.
5/18/2017 2:10:53 PM
^ that's exactly right.but as far as the comparison to UNC ^^ (which isn't totally applicable because we're going through a coaching change so shit like this always happens in coaching change), UNC is about the only school in the country that doesn't have this happen. and for one reason, players are FAR more willing to ride the pine and "wait their turn" if they think it's gonna culminate in multiple national titles. that ain't happening at State and guys don't wanna wait their turn on the bench for a NIT contender or play for a coach that didn't recruit them that they may not even like. they can either transfer down a level of competition and be a star on a lesser team, go somewhere that maybe fits their style better (kyle washington at cincy, for example), or go somewhere to compete at a higher level (we haven't had a ton of guys transfer up, but maybe Purvis to UConn fits that a bit). or of course just say "fuck it" and go get paid overseas.[Edited on May 18, 2017 at 3:24 PM. Reason : but yeah unc is almost definitely taking care of their guys in some fashion.]
5/18/2017 3:24:15 PM
Year after year, UNC is able to keep NBA ready guys from going pro. That is pretty unheard of now. K cant even do that. The crazy thing is most hurt their draft stock yet it keeps happening. Marcus Paige is the best example, but the idea that Joel Berry is somehow going to help his NBA prospects by returning to UNC is insane. Clearly UNC is able to "do something" to keep these players from cashing the pro $$.
5/19/2017 8:24:58 AM
If you wait around we promise the Hornets will draft you dont you worry... we have a guy on the inside!
5/19/2017 8:40:53 AM
it's because unc only recruits high character players who care deeply about their education
5/19/2017 11:20:01 AM
Character doesn't get much higher than PJ Hairston
5/19/2017 11:29:10 AM
Markell - BattsAl Freeman - HuntDorn - KirkAbu - HicksYurt - Freeman10 scholarship players without T Henny. Let's roll. Could have been much worse.
5/24/2017 2:48:26 PM
Still is a bunch of talent between Yurt, Abu, Nard, Dorn and Johnson.[Edited on May 24, 2017 at 2:51 PM. Reason : second ]

Now I think we have to find a replacement transfer for Kapita, maybe the Utah kid will get a strong push, add in Byrce for the future.
5/24/2017 3:59:42 PM
^the Utah kid isn't eligible for next year either. he's a regular transfer and would have to sit a year, just like Bryce. both are wings/guards, not really replacements for Kapita. i think we may be done for 2017. there aren't many kids or grad transfers on our radar for the class of 2017.it'd probably be better, unless we get lucky with a grad transfer or somebody re-classifies, for us to just wait till 2018 for front court help. it's slim pickings at this point.if hendy gets a 6th year, we'll have 2 open scholarships. presumably space for Bryce and Devon Daniels (Utah transfer) if they both wanna come here.[Edited on May 24, 2017 at 4:27 PM. Reason : d]
5/24/2017 4:26:20 PM
If we can get CJ Bryce and Devon Daniels then we should be a in a good spot next year on the wings with us losing Hunt, Henderson, and Freeman from the 2/3 spot. Would be nice to go ahead and lock them in to allow the staff to focus on front court recruiting to make up for the likely loss of Abu, Freeman & Yurtseven.
5/24/2017 4:31:26 PM
Guaranteed loss of Abu and Freeman
5/24/2017 4:49:44 PM
needless to say, this is a huge opportunity for hicks and kirk. Kind of like how senior year Vandy delivered.
5/24/2017 5:25:11 PM
So they'll talk a bunch of shit on twitter and then be awful?
5/24/2017 5:51:53 PM
Terry Henderson's appeal for a sixth year of eligibility was denied by the NCAA.
5/26/2017 3:29:07 PM
What the actual fuck?
5/26/2017 3:37:48 PM
Jesus Christ the NCAA is so full of shit just desolve it already make schools start having to pay athletes and they can play as long as they want I'm tired of the unfair playing field may as well just set it all free.[Edited on May 26, 2017 at 3:55 PM. Reason : D]

5/26/2017 5:40:36 PM
That sounds like some bullshit. At least he's graduated and can move on.
5/26/2017 6:36:47 PM
It's not a surprise. It's pretty rare for a transfer to get an extra year.
5/26/2017 7:33:15 PM
I'm surprised people are shocked he was denied. It was pretty clear he didn't qualify since he wasn't injured during his transfer year.
5/26/2017 7:51:11 PM
Except like 3-4 players have gotten a year in almost identical situations in the last few years

5/27/2017 12:28:41 AM
He transferred twice? Once in undergrad and once after he graduated? That could be something the NCAA factored in. Not exactly "identical" if he transferred twice, though.I thought most of the players who got 6th year eligibility hadn't transferred at all, like our boy Ilian[Edited on May 27, 2017 at 12:42 AM. 7 minutes = 1 season
5/27/2017 7:12:53 AM
That's why the NCAA gives 5 years to play 4. He chose to transfer away from WVU, thus forfeiting a year of eligibility. This wasn't a surprise to me.Also, that's why it's ridiculous (from the kid's point of view) to redshirt as a freshman (this is more related to football.)
5/27/2017 1:51:49 PM
Yeah the Henderson decision seemed cut and dry to me...but the couple recent exceptions the NCAA had made gave me hope.
5/27/2017 2:18:41 PM
This season is gonna hurt when we suck just as bad as we did last season.

5/30/2017 6:46:45 AM
^^it won't at all. expectations are relatively low. most of reasonable people are fully expecting this to be a rebuild and not an immediate fix. we lost our top 3 scorers - DSJ, Mav, Hendy. my expectations/hopes are pretty minimal - i wanna see progression improved effort, better defensive, a coherent offensive plan, and seeing progression from the younger guys (progression from everybody, but specifically the young guys that will be here for another couple years)[Edited on May 30, 2017 at 7:05 AM. Given the roster turnover and a new coach/system, if you didn't think we'd be just as bad as last year, that's completely on you. Everyone knows we're going to stink next year, so anything better than last year is a bonus. As long as our players are playing hard and buying into the system, that'll be enough for me. I haven't enjoyed watching our team play in a few years, so if we just play hard I'll have more fun watching us, regardless of scores.
