Beat writers are starting to suggest a RB is not likely in the first round for the panthers.
3/13/2017 10:38:28 AM
Well Fournette won't be there when we pick at #8, so unless you think we reach on Cook who had a ho-hum combine at #8, then I don't see any way we take a RB in the first without trading back. If Adams falls he'll be pick, but more likely going to be a DE(Thomas preferably) or maybe a DT/DE if Allen falls because of shoulder concerns.
3/13/2017 10:52:34 AM
I don't think Cook at 8 is a reach.
3/13/2017 11:56:12 AM
take a DE, pick RB in 2/3[Edited on March 13, 2017 at 12:03 PM. Reason : if somehow hooker is still there at 8, that would be intriguing as well]
3/13/2017 12:01:22 PM
I don't think Cook at 8 is a reach. III
3/13/2017 12:39:04 PM
I've seen Cook mocked in the 12-18 range, so I think it would be a slight reach. Had he had a big combine I'd have felt better about the pick but I just think we'd be passing up better players at #8 if we took Cook just because we wanted an upgrade at RB. I think you go DE/S in the first(please let Adams fall) and then RB in the 2nd or 3rd(Kamara, Foreman, Pettine, etc).

There aren't 10 football players in the draft better than Dalvin Cook.]
3/13/2017 2:15:56 PM
I'd like to see us take oj Howard We need a 2nd TE badly and it would take a lot of pressure off our shaky WR CorpsPlus olsen is old, expensive, and likely to start breaking down soonLots of highly rated defenders or that offensive tackle we could use. I'd hate to see us spend a top ten pick on a luxury position like RB
3/13/2017 3:03:15 PM
I've seen enough of Dalvin on Saturdays where I don't need to study his combine numbers. Wonder if we'd spend a 1st rounder on a guy with off the field issues though.
3/13/2017 3:39:29 PM
face beat me to it - love the idea of taking Howard as well
3/13/2017 7:39:21 PM
we are going to take a LB... just because we never really do anything too exciting on draft day. Drafting an LB seems like it would create the typical panthers draft day experience.I mean, it will probably turn out to be a solid pick, just nothing that will make anyone super excited. Final note: Even if someone fun like Fournette is still on the board, we will still grab the LB that will inspire the culinary equivalent of bread sandwiches and water for our Panther draft day expectation-dining experience[Edited on March 14, 2017 at 3:32 AM. Reason : hrtd]
3/14/2017 3:31:29 AM
There will be a clear cut BPA available after a few early surprise picks, and they'll pick some guy that was expected to go around 20-25.
3/14/2017 8:00:56 AM
Ten guys that would be better 1st round picks than Cook: 1. Myles Garrett2. Jamal Adams3. Malik Hooker4. Solomon Thomas5. Leonard Fournette6. Jonathan Allen 7. Marshon Lattimore 8. OJ Howard9. Reuben Foster 10. Mike WilliamsOrder is debatable, but I'm just not as high on Cook as some. Hell I'd rather take Mixon with our early 2nd round pick than take Cook with our 1st. Cook looked great at times for FSU, but he also had some stinkers and was dinged up often.I do think we need a LB with Klein leaving, Luke's concussion history, and Davis's age, but I'd be a bit surprised if we went Foster in the first and really that's the only LB worth a top 10 pick. Not going to lie. I'm still a little scared we're going to reach and take Jabrill Peppers in the 1st.
3/14/2017 9:47:31 AM
Mixon could be Bo Jackson 2.0 and we still wouldn't draft him, so there's no real point in bringing him up
3/14/2017 11:02:35 AM
It wouldn't surprise me if Mixon isn't drafted at all.[Edited on March 14, 2017 at 11:26 AM. Reason : And you like Hooker waaaay more than i do. ]
3/14/2017 11:24:46 AM
Considering how many visits Mixon got for his pro day and visits he's had from teams, I don't see him going later than the 3rd. Kid is young and saying all the right things, he'll 100% get drafted, it's all about the "when". Teams just don't pass on 1st round talent in the 3rd round or later. Tyreke Hill got drafted, Greg Hardy got signed, etc.Hooker has flashes of Ed Reed, he just needs to work on his tackling. Good coverage skills, great speed, great hands, playmaker....but his tackling is definitely suspect but not like he can't improve there. His current injury isn't helping his draft stock though, but I still think he goes top 12, too much upside.[Edited on March 14, 2017 at 2:13 PM. Reason : .]
3/14/2017 2:13:04 PM
you have to go all the way back to 2015 when somebody dropped out of the draft after being a first round talent (La'el Collins)
3/14/2017 6:45:00 PM
Good mock-draft breakdownDont really see the need to go receiver like these guys do. Seems like need to address the secondary/lines more.Weve used high picks the last 2 years on receivers.

3/16/2017 10:23:08 AM
I hope there's some way Jamal Adams drops. He and Bradberry could be the foundation of a monster secondary for years to come.

Welp. Should probably draft a QB first now.

what a shitbag article. In one paragraph he makes the team look like villains for forcing Cam out there... then he makes it look clear that Cam kept himself out there. I mean... the team is not going to risk the face and future of our team in order to complete a 5-8 season. Where is the benefit in that, Scott Fowler? Unless he was completely medically cleared and there was no risk to turn this into something worse, why would they allow him to play? My favorite line comes when the author is galloping in on his white horse spewing about the risk involved with Cam playing...
3/22/2017 10:18:09 AM
Scott Fowler allegedly sucks dick
3/22/2017 12:15:08 PM
Total disaster. Another season likely down the tunes. Furious that they let him play and waited too late to get the surgery. We should have tanked for the draft pick. Now our veteran free agent signings make even less sense

Keep seeing more and more info pointing to us taking McCaffrey at #8....that would be so frustrating.

Draft silly season. No way that happens (if the panthers keep their pick). He'd be a great pick 10 picks later.]
4/13/2017 10:17:09 AM
please no
4/13/2017 4:16:52 PM
somehow he'll go to the Patriots and will ball the fuck out
4/13/2017 4:28:07 PM
Some radio guy made a good point that mccaffrey is an excellent player, but do you really trust Shula to maximize his potential?
4/13/2017 6:31:14 PM
Funny, nobody had a problem with Shula when we had the #1 offense in football 2 seasons ago.
4/13/2017 6:41:03 PM
Yeah we did. He still had problem adjusting.
4/13/2017 7:41:19 PM
I kinda feel like Shula has always gotten shit. Some seasons more than others, but I don't recall much praise ever going his way. I'm sure I'll be proven wrong when y'all bring the up 2015 season thread though
4/13/2017 9:57:25 PM
That 2015 offense also had the ball a ton in favorable spots because the defense was so good. I don't dislike Shula, but I wouldn't call him exactly innovative, either.[Edited on April 14, 2017 at 11:19 AM. Reason : .]
4/14/2017 11:19:22 AM
What's being innovative, running a bunch of trick plays all the time? He designed an offense around Cam Newton's skillset, and I think he's done a pretty good job of it. And while our defense did force a ton of turnovers in 2015, we had such skilled offensive starters as Philly Brown and Ted Ginn.
4/14/2017 12:50:15 PM
By innovative I mean getting the ball to our best playmakers in space. It seems a lot of our offense is to have cam hold the ball then try to launch it into double coverage. Admittedly we haven't really had a guy like that, so maybe he could make it work, I dunno. That said, I don't see any way they take mccaffrey unless it's with a later pick
4/14/2017 2:39:58 PM
I think our offense is fine, if you want to shit on Shula, shit on his inability to adjust after we get punched in the mouth. I think he actually draws up solid plans and make some good play calls, he just hasn't impressed with his ability to have a plan, have it fall apart, and then quickly draw up a new plan to counter whatever the D is doing. I also don't think McCaffrey falls to the Pats, they don't pick until #72 overall(former Panthers 3rd round pick). McCaffrey will definitely be a 1st round pick, it will just be interesting to see how far he really slides. Seems a lot of mocks linking him to the Panthers and Eagles. His upside seems like Gio Bernard/Danny Woodhead/Darren Sproles, I just don't see how you can justify a 3rd down back in the top 10. If we trade back, so be it.

Yeah, McCaffrey would be a reach at 8. I'd love him in the mid-to-late first round tho. He's really quick and fast, but he doesn't have that explosive acceleration after he makes cuts like the top-tier backs do. He also doesn't break tackles at all
4/17/2017 12:28:34 PM
I'm fine with Howard or Fournette, but I trust Gettleman with the BPA approach. Because BPA won't land McCaffrey at 8.
