American science is screwedThere's already been healthy competition with researchers in Europe and Asia but 4 years of deprioritizing research into emerging global challenges is going to take its toll. http://arstechnica.com/science/2016/11/speculation-begins-on-trumps-picks-for-science-energy-agencies/

^I'm not pro-ACA but the pre-existing condition protection is one thing it got right. Do you think people with pre-existing conditions should be left to suffer?[Edited on November 9, 2016 at 11:49 PM. Reason : v i just wanna hear him say it]
11/9/2016 11:41:57 PM
^ he thinks the government (aka tax payers) should pay for them, but doesn't realize that's what he thinks.
11/9/2016 11:44:25 PM
^^No because I know people who have struggled to pay bills because of pre-existing conditions. I also think the ACA got that part correct, but at the same time it doesn't really allow the ACA to work unless a lot of healthy people sign up. That hasn't happened though because of the high cost of insurance policies. I don't know what the answer is, but hopefully Trump can figure something out that all sides agree on and not just create Obamacare V 2.0 that once again screws over the middle class. If Obamacare didn't turn out to suck then Clinton is probably our new president.
11/9/2016 11:53:43 PM
Oh so you know people with bills so your cool with that part of the ACA?How do you propose we stop insurance companies from locking out people with pre existing conditions???
11/10/2016 7:20:00 AM
^I always was cool with that part and I think every American is, but yeah the problem is finding a way to balance out the costs of taking care of people with pre-existing conditions and expensive medical bills. I really don't know what the best way to fix that problem is, but I just hope someone does.
11/10/2016 8:05:16 AM
Spoiler: they don't.There is a reason why their entire plan is repeal and replace with the only details being some vague Trump statement on crossing state lines.
11/10/2016 8:29:37 AM
So what is your main complaint with the ACA again?
11/10/2016 8:34:34 AM
11/10/2016 8:37:46 AM
^^skyrocketing premiums that are unaffordable.
11/10/2016 9:23:08 AM
11/10/2016 9:25:31 AM
It's amazing how much the "skyrocketing premiums" talking point has caught on, even though in reality premiums for the vast majority of Americans have been rising at their slowest rate in decades. The Obamacare premium hikes especially will only affect something like 0.1% of the population, people on the exchanges who don't get subsidies. The problem is people who were insured under the medicaid expansion or receive exchange subsidies represent a very tiny voting bloc, so it's easy to just spread FUD to everyone else.
11/10/2016 9:48:58 AM
that's a bit misleading
11/10/2016 9:52:34 AM
Did everyone totally forget what shit was like before the ACA? It's not perfect but the "skyrocketing prices" argument is borderline retarded.
11/10/2016 9:53:23 AM
^^Ok, the one bit I left were younger/healthier people who were insured, but chose "catastrophic" plans with super high deductibles that were only useful for major medical events. Obamacare got rid of those plans and required them to purchase more comprehensive insurance. Those people saw massive jumps of 200-300% in their premiums, but again, it's apples to oranges.
11/10/2016 10:03:33 AM
^ this happened to me. I was paying $150 for a shit plan and then bought a $350 plan that was pretty decent. That decent plan would have cost me $500+ before the ACA. Also I'm no longer in my mid 20's and have a job that covers 100% of my insurance costs with a great plan.

11/10/2016 10:54:50 AM

That and term limits, though I was hoping infrastructure was less of a pipe dream.Silver lining here is if Congress keeps up its obstructionist bent it'll only help to tear the party further apart.
11/10/2016 10:58:34 AM
So, below is a list of some of Trump's campaign promises to keep score of. The good thing is that most of these are so general, that it will be easy to campaign against as a broken promise in 4 years:
11/10/2016 11:24:11 AM
100 day plan: https://assets.donaldjtrump.com/_landings/contract/O-TRU-102316-Contractv02.pdf#1 is a constitutional amendment for term limits. I'm on board.
11/10/2016 11:25:50 AM
Mitch McConnell already torpedoed that, it'll never see the floor of the senate.
11/10/2016 11:29:25 AM
Good luck getting the people who benefit from no term limits to agree to that
11/10/2016 11:30:53 AM
We'll need a guy who's great at making deals.
11/10/2016 11:39:10 AM
11/10/2016 11:42:02 AM
Yea I mean if you cherry pick all the unachievable goals out of Trumps 100 day plan and ignore the rest it really doesn't look quite as bad as it used to.
11/10/2016 11:50:24 AM
Clearly he baked in quite a few that won't be achieved to assuage the base. He knows that most of those things won't come to fruition, but he'll be able to say he tried.
11/10/2016 12:05:49 PM
Y'all realize you are falling into the same trap you fell into during the election. After a primary and general election, I have learned my lesson never to underestimate this guy. For better or worse, I wouldn't be surprised if all of his plans are enacted.
11/10/2016 12:34:01 PM
It's amazing how much pro-oil shit he has planned in his first 100 days. This is going to be GWB 2.0 except less transparent, more anti-gay, and more anti-immigrant. I'm guessing they'll all somehow come off as stupider than The GWB administration too. I didn't think that was possible.[Edited on November 10, 2016 at 12:35 PM. Reason : ^ahahahah. 11/10/2016 12:34:08 PM
^Listen, I want to be as cynical as everyone else and hope any "bad" policy will get shot down. I'm just saying.
11/10/2016 12:38:15 PM
^^apparently making it to office is not, though?
11/10/2016 12:45:30 PM
Governing is far harder than manipulating an electorate.I still think Obama found that out hard way and did have good intentions before falling in to the DC trap.I am curious how congress responds to Trump because he is absolutely more of a bully than anyone we've seen and I'm curious if they relent.
11/10/2016 12:47:41 PM
He destroyed every other candidate by belittling them. I have no reason to believe he'll do anything different as president. He has no party loyalty. The question is will it work?

To quote The West Wing, "We already have term limits, they're called elections."Supporting term limits means losing some incredibly senators who are actually working towards the common good. Let the voters continue to decide who stays and who goes.
11/10/2016 1:02:10 PM
^^^^ he's also very think skinned to people who insult him, can't handle opposition, and is excessively obsequious to people who feed his ego (the way he talks about Putin), and literally knows nothing about government or politics, has never had to navigate anything like congress. A business is like a communist dictatorship, trump doesn't know how to handle opposition or compromise. Trump's idea of compromise was signing contracts, then after goods were delivered, telling people he'll pay them less than he's obligated-- the compromise is in figure out how much less to pay. I can't see this working on a national scale, he'll build up enemies very quickly doing this.I don't expect any courageous leadership moves from trump, he's easily manipulated. I can easily see MCConnell pushing him around[Edited on November 10, 2016 at 1:03 PM. Reason : ]
