Not that it matters, but my previous post is obviously general musings about this notion of being "respectful" to women (in particular). It's not a direct response to this Trump foolishness.
10/11/2016 1:36:31 AM
I'm not really a fan of calling it "rape" when a man grabs a woman's clothed crotch (not that I condone this action, of course) because then what do you call it when some dude tackles a woman who's walking late at night, holds a knife to her throat, fucks her and leaves her with torn clothes? because this is clearly 100x worse.of course, there's the difficulty of where to draw the line - but we ought to be more judicious about what we call "rape" these days, in my book. to call Trump's actions "rape" diminishes the magnitude and horror of actual rape. (this isn't relevant to anything anyone's said ITT - it's just that a lot of people are calling Trump a rapist on my Facebook feed, and I don't want to argue with them because it would be draining and they'd win anyway.)
10/11/2016 1:46:40 AM
There's at least 1 unadjudicated rape allegation against trump and his first wife said he raped her, an allegation she retracted after he threatened to sue her to oblivion. Probably not objective to call him a rapist, but he's probably a rapist.
10/11/2016 1:52:52 AM
I certainly don't doubt it. if those are the grounds people are using, I'm just about okay with it.still, I'm a bit worried about the enlargement of the term "rape." I'm sure there are tons of women who'd say it's "rape" if you drunkenly smack a woman's ass. (not that I've done this.)I'm also a bit worried, come to think of it, that these are the only issues of political principle I tend to be motivated about - applying the term "rape" in a fair way, opposing lifetime solitary confinement in all cases on the grounds that it's unduly cruel, basically arguing that scummy people have rights. things like this. but, shrug.]
10/11/2016 2:20:22 AM
you know who else is a rapist? ISIS

I love a good semantic argument about what rape is

Protestors can be annoying for a number of reasons, and it's easy to let them get you all reactionary. I'm the worst for that. But this Ashley Parlett doesn't seem to realize that she's doling out the same advice given to women sixty years ago. And as practical and well-meaning it may have been, it was still bullshit back then, too.And it's weird cause she's not taking her own advice. She's still talking--and talking, for that matter, in the most obnoxious way you can: "I'm sure that's not a popular opinion but it's mine."

The guy in the purple sweater looks thrilled to be there.
1/23/2017 12:08:11 PM
^^ I feel like there's something written in hot pink on that sign...but I can't make it out.
1/23/2017 12:26:04 PM
not a protest, it was a rally
1/23/2017 12:39:39 PM
Protest, rally, march, doesn't really make a difference. To be accurate I would say technically it was a "NeoMarxist gathering for low-IQ, politically-illiterate, overly-emotional morons to virtue-signal and protest a fair election."But I'm sure they frame it in a vague, feel-good, all inclusive term like "March for women" so the useful idiots hop on board.
1/23/2017 2:38:49 PM
gasp....... now that you put it that way, my mind is changed suddenly
1/23/2017 3:01:48 PM
1/23/2017 3:01:49 PM
Well I'm only speculating, one of the trademarks of leftist "activism" is they can never actually define WHAT is being protested against, rallied for, etc. (That's the problem with fighting against oppression that doesn't exist).I mean sure, there is some vague bullshit like "Equality" and "Women's rights" but if you actually apply more than 1 minute of thought to either subject you realize its just a misrepresented, oversimplified, biased representation of a complex issue viewed threw the lens of Marxism.Sign says "Reproductive rights are human rights"... it sounds good if you don't actually think past the emotional appeal of the feel-good phrase. If you actually use your brain though, you understand your side is demanding the government steal from others to fund your slutty lifestyle choices. This logic applies to essentially every sign you will see at the march. Unfortunately this realization is only possible with a full 1 minute of critical thinking, which rules out nearly everyone who participated in the march.[Edited on January 23, 2017 at 3:23 PM. the march had a 6 page document explaining their reasonsit's easier to read it on the pdf https://static1.squarespace.com/static/584086c7be6594762f5ec56e/t/58796773414fb52b57e20794/1484351351914/WMW+Guiding+Vision+%26+Definition+of+Principles.pdf, but if not here it is:

I'm sorry you feel that way
1/23/2017 4:47:42 PM
It's not a "feeling".It's objectively true. Every single "issue" listed is suggesting that a disparity of outcome is a result of "oppression" rather than personal choice. It is 100% Collectivist Marxist SJW bullshit. Its societal cancer[Edited on January 23, 2017 at 4:54 PM. Reason : .]

^what are your thoughts on abortion?
1/23/2017 5:07:46 PM
I asked a marcher what they thought about abortion. They said "It's my body its my right"Yet oddly enough somehow it isn't their bill to pay.
1/23/2017 5:18:38 PM
100% does not answer the question.

"When you are so privileged equality seems like oppression"
1/23/2017 6:12:46 PM
The minute Trump took office, he scrubbed every mention of Climate Change from whitehouse.gov. That's a huge problem.Militarized police.planned parenthood (my vaginal/ovarian health depends on it)respect for people no matter where they came from or who they are (I'm sorry this is so vague, but Trump and his supporters have demonstrated their lack of respect for nearly everyone but white men, and I would like him to know that is not ok. Also, I know he is going on "America First" which I support, but not while giving the rest of the world the middle finger)[Edited on January 24, 2017 at 9:22 AM. Let me try and frame this as honestly as possible, since the left seems to have no desire to even come close to framing the issue fairly:The right doesn't want to pay for an organization offering abortions. The left wants the right to pay for an organization offering abortions. That's the issue. When you attach the harmless non-abortion aspects of planned parenthood and act as if the right is targeting that as part of a "war on women" you are either ignorant or intellectually dishonest.
1/24/2017 12:35:24 PM
So it's about control and not abortion? I'm actually OK with that. It's honest at least. But don't sit here and tell me it's about abortion when it's a policy that empirically and demonstrably INCREASES actual abortions.
1/24/2017 12:54:05 PM
