The Contra controversy is rather odd considering the inclusion of Castlevania I/II. Lack of Blaster Master and Little Nemo make me sad, and I would choose any of the DW II-IV over FF in a heartbeat. Otherwise looks good. I am especially glad for the Zelda II inclusion (gets a lot more hate than it should).
7/18/2016 11:07:02 AM
Zelda II was a game changer. Best of both RPG and side scroller.
7/18/2016 11:59:24 AM
I hope they do a snes one with secret of mana/chrono/donkey kong games/mariokart/etc etc
7/18/2016 12:09:03 PM
Lots of potential if they ever want to come out with a version 2.0 with internet multiplayer and ability to get other games. Blades of Steel, Ice Hockey, and Chip and Dale would have been fantastic. I'll still get this though; my sister wants one and we can just share it. I wouldn't mind playing some of these games: excitebike, bubble bobble, balloon fight, etc. I'm sure an SNES one will come out. Maybe next Christmas?

Ordered another raspberry pi yesterday for a Retro Pie
7/19/2016 3:03:35 PM
You might as well sign up for a subscribe-and-save on those!
7/19/2016 3:10:43 PM
Need to add Jackal in there. Loved that game.
7/19/2016 3:12:27 PM
Yeah, they are pretty handy little devices. I don't know of anything else I might would do with one. I am quite limited with no internet service besides my phone.[Edited on July 19, 2016 at 3:14 PM. Reason : Had to get a buddy to download some ROM libraries ]
7/19/2016 3:13:44 PM
Played my N64 on my LED TV last night and man...I didn't realize how bad the graphics were...It's nostalgic but dang.
7/19/2016 3:17:58 PM
Yeah, it's going to interesting to see what the mini NES graphics look like on a 52" screen
7/19/2016 3:59:28 PM
People have been playing NES games on big screen TVs via the Wii and Wii U. They look fine (colors are a bit muted though), because it's easier to render 2D games at a high resolution.
7/20/2016 10:12:51 AM
I'm excited about this, and getting one, but I kinda think they should have gone all out with the re-release of NES. Made it with wireless controllers (same shape and everything, just wireless), a big hard drive you can add to, online multiplayer, etc, and sold it in the $200 range. I think people would pay more.
7/20/2016 10:23:42 AM
First of all, that's called a Wii/Wii-U with virtual console. They already have that.Secondly, how big of a hard drive would you need? These are NES games.
7/20/2016 5:51:42 PM
Yeah this is Nintendo cashing in on nostalgia. They are putting in the bare minimum of costs and will sell a shit ton of these. They wouldn't make more money having wireless controllers and downloadable content. Plus, like ^ said, that's just wii virtual console. Why would they create a new system to do that?
7/20/2016 7:36:25 PM
got my retro pie running tonight. if you want this NES Classic Edition, but with wireless controllers and pretty much every game ever made, you should really look into it.
7/20/2016 8:43:30 PM
I didn't realize Wii and Wii U have original NES games, shows what I know. Never had either of those, but had an NES, and definitely getting this. I'd need a real big hard drive for all the videos of me and your mom.
7/20/2016 8:51:34 PM
7/21/2016 1:47:06 PM
i really need to just do this and finally sell my consoles. they take up so much room for how little use i give them.
7/21/2016 2:16:34 PM
Just Google "retro pie"

monkey see monkey do? http://gadgets.ndtv.com/games/news/sega-mega-drive-classic-game-console-with-80-built-in-games-revealed-865423
7/26/2016 11:17:16 AM
Maybe I missed this elsewhere, but can someone explain the "multiple suspend points" language compared to how you used to save on FF and some of the rpg's listed? Basically, you'll still be able to save when playing the rpg's, right?
7/26/2016 12:04:37 PM
That Sega console comes with 40 Genesis games and 40 "bonus" games (that are mostly crap). According to reviews I've read it's been around awhile and while it plays cartridges the sound quality is horrid and it doesn't have an HDMI port.http://www.polygon.com/2016/7/25/12270196/sega-genesis-mega-drive-nes-classic-edition-plug-and-play
7/26/2016 12:52:25 PM
I am oddly excited by this.
7/26/2016 11:55:10 PM
^^ so are the built-in Genesis games crap?
7/27/2016 12:08:29 AM
i saw that sega console years ago in a dollar store
7/27/2016 8:26:01 AM
^I did too. There are maybe 6 games on it that are decent and half of them are just sequels to Sonic.
7/27/2016 9:17:16 AM
i wish they would make a better one, because genesis >>>> SNES
7/27/2016 9:43:05 AM
^ wat
7/27/2016 5:18:51 PM
^^ That might hold true if you dislike JRPGs. If you love JRPGs as much as I do (or at least did), the SNES might be the greatest console ever made.
7/28/2016 3:14:15 PM
I have that sega console. i think it was on clearance at target for like $20.The built in genesis games are fine. The selection isn't great. Other than Sonic, there's Altered beast, golden axe, and a few others i don't remember off the top of my head which were fun as a kid. The bonus games are all garbage. The controllers definitely don't feel like the real thing, and the wireless IR is such that you've got to point them directly at the console or control is choppy, which means if you're used to holding a controller at an angle where the top of the controller isn't pointing at the console, it's rather uncomfortable. it does have ports for presumably wired genesis controllers, but i haven't tested that out, nor any cartridges. Just being able to play sonic is good enough. yeah it doesn't have HDMI, but that's a very minor complaint. Overall, it's not the greatest thing in the world, but was worth $20 for a little nostalgia. If you're savvy, a retropie is a better investment in time/money.

^^I would say you don't even need to be tech savvy to get retropie running. You can complete the whole process without ever even seeing the command line, if you desire. They support Bluetooth controllers, USB clones, or even original controllers if you put in a little more effort and money. $100 or less.
8/1/2016 2:21:04 PM
well at least savvy enough not to ESD the Raspberry Pi when you take it out of the box, which eliminates the vast majority of people.
8/2/2016 2:47:29 PM
This comes out today. Reading a review on Polygon, they said it works great and it has good options for display/save states/etc. Sounds like Nintendo nailed it.... except the cord for the controller is 2 1/2 feet long
11/11/2016 9:40:34 AM
It's not wireless?
11/11/2016 9:45:24 AM
Yes, the cord length is a little bizarre
11/11/2016 10:18:11 AM
NopeBut Nyko has an extension cable available for it Also, this isn't really Nintendo's fault but input lag on HDTVs make playing Punch-Out!! a bitch.[Edited on November 11, 2016 at 10:42 AM. 11/11/2016 10:22:27 AM
Yeah, the only other slight downside I've read about is that it has a saving system built in, for games that don't have a built in save like Zelda did, but you have to push a button on the console itself to use it, you can't do it from the controller. I still think I might pick one up, or tells someone to get me one for Christmas.
11/11/2016 10:23:02 AM
I'm going to try for one on amazon this afternoon for the wife for christmas but I'm not going to go out of my way for one
11/11/2016 10:25:08 AM
The one I sold on eBay went for 400 dollars. Wtf

I gave up on trying to get one. I got to the nearest gamestop 2 hours prior to opening on release day, and they had already given out vouchers. Then I tried calling gamestops randomly trying to get one, then just gave up. Ended up getting a raspberry pi and installing retropie on it.This is very perplexing. I wonder what kind of licenses they have to pay for the 30 games.
4/14/2017 12:51:11 AM
Virtual console on switch coming soon
4/14/2017 5:45:30 AM
That isn't the point though. People wanted this for it's simplicity, and those rectangle A/B button controllers. I mean, stores couldn't keep these on the shelf.
4/14/2017 8:09:15 AM
it's just another product they have to build and track though. it was a hit for the first batch, but hard to say what kind of lasting demand it will have. releasing it every now and again might actually make business sense, particularly if it helps not cannibalize the VC.
4/14/2017 3:21:13 PM
I sold 1 for 400 last November and kept one to play. Now I wish I hadn't opened it.
4/16/2017 7:16:52 PM
I sold one for a BAJILLION dollars.
4/16/2017 11:26:50 PM
^^Might as well sell that one too. It still works, someone'll buy it.
4/17/2017 9:55:58 AM
Has anybody seen them in stores lately?
