OoT is a go-to for one of the best games ever made and even factoring in the nostalgia factor people are saying that BotW is better. Zelda console games are usually absolutely top tier quality, so even if it is just hype, it is still likely an incredible game.

A 20 point scale? Someone is trying to stand out. It's turning into a pretty good year for gaming already. For the first time in a long time, I have too many games I wanna play.
3/2/2017 11:26:17 AM
Guess they should have just slapped the "Game of the Year" seal on it before printing the cover art.
3/2/2017 11:39:14 AM
I picked the wrong time to trade in my Shitbox One for a PS4. I'm playing through Nioh, Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne (which was fucking amazing and deserves a few playthroughs). Then I need to pick up Horizon: Zero Dawn and this for my Wii U. Might be drinking coffee at night.
3/2/2017 2:34:35 PM
wow I already feel like this is one of the best games of all time and I don't even have a switch yet
3/3/2017 12:01:04 AM
I'm enjoying, but definitely like the classic Zelda gameplay more.

****SPOILERS****Probably 6 hours in at this point, and I'm beginning to understand how big the map actually is after getting to the other side of Hyrule and getting some shrines over there. The thing I'm having trouble with right now is getting by that Guardian on the way to Kakariko village. Am I taking the wrong route? How can you get by that thing without it's laser destroying you instantly? Also, has anybody found any weapons that don't shatter after 3-4 enemies?****SPOILERS****[Edited on March 6, 2017 at 8:28 AM. Reason : spoilers]

SPOILERS, although if you are reading this thread at this point, you should expect them.^^I didn't encounter a guardian on the way to Kakariko -- you must be going a different route than me. I just got to Kakariko yesterday. I just followed what the king said and made my way to the Twin Peaks, found a horse stable, and followed the road from there. I did some exploring at some of the mountains/shrines around that area and found a guardian on the other side of a lake but he wasn't really in my way so I just ran away from him. Still not strong enough to hurt them. The only other guardians I've encountered are the ones near the shrine on the Great Plateau that are partially buried/can't move.In terms of weapons, the only one I've found that has lasted a while is a flaming sword. If you explore around the horse stables near Twin Peaks, you'll find some clues that lead to it. I did get a Shiekah blade and spear in two different shrines that I thought would last a while but those broke after a little bit of use. It seems that spears, even throwing spears, break on impact if you throw them. Also, Claymore + Horseback = a lot of dead bokoblins, lol.Overall I cannot get over how absolutely incredible this game is. I've put in maybe 11 hours so far, but barely made a dent in the main quest. I just keep getting distracted by so many other things. There is so much you can do. A true masterpiece.
3/6/2017 10:22:38 AM
Can we just assume that every post my have SPOILERS now?The game is amazing to be sure. Not much to be said that hasn't already been covered. I've put in ~15 hours and don't seem to be any further than others in this thread. I've done a LOT of exploring, climbing, and collecting. (Has anyone seen the little blue glowing magical rabbit looking thing? For me, it always seems to pop up in wooded areas next to lakes. It's very sensitive to movement and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to catch it or kill it. I've tried both and failed miserably. It runs and vanishes into thin air once it's startled.)Currently, I've traveled east out of Kakariko and climbed the Hateno Tower. This was the point where the scale of the map really got to me and I couldn't decide where to go next. It feels like it would take days to explore just that one piece of the map alone! So I'm currently travelling to the next point in the main quest but haven't gotten there yet. Also, I haven't found the combat to be all that difficult. The only times I've died in combat was when I killed myself with a bomb on accident. (Excluding a guardian encounter that blew me and my horse off a cliff.)

i just got to Kakariko last night. i did not hit a guardian. follow the path as shown on the map between dueling peaks. you need to so you meet the guy that can expand your inventory.***********spoiler regarding weapons*************i have heard that the master sword will not break, but has some sort of energy that will deplete and regen fully in 10 minutes.source - twitch*******************************[Edited on March 6, 2017 at 12:35 PM. SPOILERSI've been making my way there all wrong apparently. I just have the waypoint on the map that I can see which direction it is and have been running right at it. That's where I met the Guardian on the cliff. I will do that when I get home because I need to expand my inventory badly. I'm also about to look for the flaming sword tonight. Thanks Wraith
3/6/2017 1:24:55 PM
^That is prob the same guardian I encountered on other side of Selia Lake, which is right down the road from the horse stables, but surrounded by cliffs. I initially went exploring over there after talking to a random guy walking on the road who said he saw a ghost over there. Couldn't find the ghost though.I died in combat a few times when I first encountered one of those blue bokoblins, but all I had was a boko club, no shield, and three hearts so he took me out with one hit.Only really have two gripes so far.1) Inventory is kind of a pain in the ass to deal with. Finding a chest only to open it and find out I don't have any slots left, then going and dropping something is annoying. Same for scrolling to find what I'm looking for to make meals or whatever. This could have all been remedied EASILY if...2) The WiiU gamepade is essentially useless. They don't use the screen on it at all which is such a stupid decision. It would have made navigating inventory so much more streamlined. I read that it was because they "Didn't want to distract the player from the game" or something like that which is complete bullshit. We all know they just were making it for the Switch in mind to begin with and just ported it with minimal effort. The whole reason the gamepad screen exists is for maps and inventory stuff.
3/6/2017 1:58:08 PM
I thought this was a WiiU game ported to the Switch, not the other way around.I'm assuming they didn't utilize the gamepad, like they did with Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, because they support multiple control schemes? Like the Wii remote, gamepad, etc? Just a guess.Agreed that it was a waste not to use the gamepad... even if nothing more than using it to display something benign like a map.
3/6/2017 5:38:34 PM
I hope there isn't more than one motion controlled shrine puzzle because that was a pain in the ass. Took me at least 10-15 tries. Also, anyone climb the mountains north of Hateno Village yet? That was a lot of fun! No sarcasm
3/7/2017 9:35:06 AM
You talking about the rolling ball maze? That's where I am right now. I only tried it once though and it fell off at the gap between the maze and the path...
3/7/2017 9:40:33 AM
lol there is actually a really simple way to cheat at that puzzle but I won't post about it unless people wanna know.
3/7/2017 9:50:50 AM
Let me get frustrated then rage quit one good time before you tell me
3/7/2017 9:59:56 AM
3/7/2017 10:22:11 AM
^That's the cheat that I was referring to.

I can't put this game down. I'm always checking out shrines, following up on a side quest, or climbing a new tower. Apparently they cut some touchscreen stuff from the game: https://mynintendonews.com/2017/03/06/nintendo-cut-some-touchscreen-features-from-breath-of-the-wild/

^They got me too, Got dat Wolf Link comin...

This is the best Zelda game imo:1. Breath of Wild2. OoT3. Windwaker
3/8/2017 7:53:57 PM
OoT still for me.
3/8/2017 9:08:12 PM
That's just nostalgia talking.
3/8/2017 11:44:19 PM
Doubtful. I like breath of the wild of lot. My only complaint is I wish there were a few more temples, and a build up of non-breakable items. I liked getting the bow and arrow in the forest temple for example....etc.
3/9/2017 11:52:22 AM
The Breath of the Wild amiibo are 20% off on Amazon Prime today. My ranking of Zelda games:2D1. Link to the Past2. Link Between Worlds3. Link's Awakening4. The Minish Cap5. Original Legend of Zelda6. Oracle games (honestly don't remember them very well)7. Zelda II8. Phantom Hourglass9. Spirit Tracks3D1. Breath of the Wild2. Wind Waker HD3. Majora's Mask4. Ocarina of Time5. Twilight Princess6. Somebody give me the eli5 on the amiibos. What type of content is unlocked when you get them?
3/9/2017 1:10:25 PM
^You find that fire sword yet?
3/9/2017 1:57:20 PM
Yep. Talked to the guy in the stable then found it pretty quickly after that. Still by far the best weapon I have, because I'm afraid to use it and have it shatter I think it's going to take me forever to finish this game because I'm really trying hard to not use any walkthroughs or item location webpages unless I get majorly stuck somewhere.

3/9/2017 3:06:18 PM
What a great idea, and it doesn't feel as painful as DLC directly through the game. I'm tempted to purchase a guardian and an archer link now...

3/9/2017 3:56:13 PM
Flame sword is my best weapon as well. I'm scared to use it other than emergencies though
3/10/2017 12:38:32 AM
Impressed by the reviews ITT. And I usually never consider getting most Nintendo products.Anyone had issues with the switch? I've seen online some glitches, locking up, screen marring, etc.
3/10/2017 7:57:30 AM
I've only played about 2 hours of the game so far, in my home I'm 3rd in line, so I ask this mostly in ignorance. What makes BotW leaps and bounds better than you're average open world game? So far the game feels like your standard open world game with a Zelda skin. I've played many, many open world games so that aspect of the game isn't something new or novel. That said I'd rather play this game than any other Zelda game out there right now, mostly because this one is something new.Maybe part of my issue is that I haven't had the time to hit a dungeon yet, which is what I feel sets Zelda games apart from most other games. I have watched more than I've played. Are the divine beasts meant to be the dungeons? I've only seen one so far. It did look pretty cool, but as I understand it there are only 4, so maybe 5 dungeons when you toss in the final dungeon. There's also the classic aspect of an item you obtain in dungeons helping you solve puzzles whereas with this game I think you obtain all the puzzle solving items after you complete the first 4 shrines? This to allow the payer to tackle quests in any order they wish. But like I said, I don't have much time with the game itself and I try not to watch too much so as to have some sense of mystery by the time I get around to playing.[Edited on March 10, 2017 at 9:45 AM. i killed 3 guardian roamers with one pot lid, suck it advanced technology
3/11/2017 3:28:38 PM
this game is incredible. riding on the back of that Zora while shooting shock arrows at a giant robot elephant. epic.
3/14/2017 9:50:24 PM
yeah, i spent like 3 hours last night just exploring, which felt like 15 minutes. only think i really did that you could say advanced the story is find a memory.
3/15/2017 10:00:02 AM
^That is the only one of the divine beasts I've done and yes, that was fucking awesome. Riding on his back, then jumping into the waterfall and swimming up it to shoot the shock arrows was epic. Just finished that dungeon a few days ago, now I'm working on all of the Zora's domain side quests. The Lynel mini-boss near Zora's Domain was pretty damn cool too. Dude took me out in like two swipes of his sword the first time I fought him. I then wised up and drank an armor elixir and soon figured out his pattern, but still, was awesome.Has anyone found any good recipe uses for Hinox monster parts?
3/15/2017 10:02:57 AM
I thought the only thing monster parts were good for were making elixirs. Although I get the feeling someone will ask for ten Hinox parts at some point.
3/15/2017 10:52:22 AM
I'm on the path to Zora's domain right now. Gonna have to watch out for this mini-boss.
3/15/2017 11:50:23 AM
^The miniboss isn't along the way there, but once you get there someone will direct you on how to find it. There is another miniboss around there that you can kill as a side quest too.Monster parts ARE for making elixirs, and different monster parts have different strengths (bokoblin guts have a lot stronger effect than bokoblin horn), but I feel like any part of a Hinox should be significantly stronger than something you can get from a random bokoblin.
3/15/2017 12:58:34 PM
not to **************spoil***************** to much, but eventually you can meet a vendor that has other uses for the monster parts. i am also worried about selling too many parts for rupees, even though i need them, because like someone said, eventually an armor upgrade will costs some part that i have sold all of.
3/15/2017 1:29:38 PM
^That is why I'm holding on to all of my gemstones. Except amber and opal, I find those all over the damn place. I figure the rubies/diamonds/sapphires/etc. will have a more significant role in the future. I just wish I had a chest or something I could put them in so they aren't taking up inventory slots.
