Upon further Googling, seems like that idea is actually bunk. It's still more likely to be the Zika virus.

I'm trying to figure out the state's motivation for suspending its use.

It's the one down there at the bottom of Brazil, and some Argentinian doctors are recommending similar actions.

[Edited on February 15, 2016 at 12:36 AM. Reason : I guess they trust doctors' general suspicions.]

A journalist acquaintance on the west coast that covers this stuff seems to think those actions are being pushed by anti-Monsanto econuts in the region.

Monsanto already had a bad reputation so bringing them into the process has been effective in swaying policy makers.

This is the best rebuttal out now, but I'm sure we'll see more indepth analysis as this evolves.

Monsanto doesn't even make PPF, nor do they make neonics, but somehow they are blamed for the bees and butterflies too

They are trying to tie it to Monsanto because the manufacturer and Monsanto have some kind of partnership on a weed control initiative or something, kinda sad that major.media shared the story without searching that

Yes they are a big part of the problem. Hard to undo misinformation, spreads like weed. Spending a lot of money in the PR department to try and undo, not sure if it's working. Most people don't understand the distinction between GMO and organic, yet they think they are well informed.

I dunno.

They didn't report that the larvicide causes microcephaly.

They reported that some guys were worried that the larvicide might cause microcephaly, which is accurate.

It's not misinformation. It's a "reporting" industry where actual journalism isn't profitable.

We'll always have PBS...maybe.

On January 1st I said:
Quote :
"to add to how much it sucks, abortion is not legal in Brazil, women have even been prosecuted for miscarrying
"

To which HCHreplied:
Quote :
"^Disingenuous.

Abortion is allowed for some medical conditions. Microcephaly is not one of those medical conditions (for now), but they are considering it."

And I responded pointing out:
Quote :
"The only health conditions are if the mothers life is at risk. Also rape. There is a petition by people, but it is not being considered by the government and the experts do not think it is likely to change because it does not put the mothers life at risk."

Zika could be traveling farther North this summer than previously expceted. Including well past NC.

Quote :
"The mosquito species driving the ongoing Zika virus outbreak appears to range over a far wider swath of the continental United States than previously estimated, stretching as far north as Ohio in the Midwest and New Jersey along the East Coast."

They're saying that if women get it, they should wait at least 5 years before having a child.
