I hate predicting wins before preseason even begins, because there are just too many variables in football. But if the teams are relatively the same as this year, we better win at least 7 games, including the UNC game, or DD will be feeling the heat.

^Did you count our bye week as an L?

I see at least 5 wins and at most 7, all depends on how our new starters develop.

Brutal stretch of ND, Clemson, Louisville, BC, FSU. Fuck playing at ECU. I hate that we set ourselves up in trap games. Gain jack shit from beating them, probably lose a bowl bid (albeit shitty) if/when we lose.

Home-and-home series against in-state rivals brings in more interest and money for the program than playing Middle-of-Nowhere-Farthest-Part-of-Southern-State-University.

At least we will likely be 4-0 with a lot of hype going into that nd game. If we can pull some CF magic, it just might be enough for our program to turn the corner.

I'd rather we play ECU early than later since they will have a new coach and system presumably that they'll still be getting used to.

UNC will be interesting to watch. Hopefully Trubisky sucks donkey cock as the uncontested starter.

UL is bringing back Lamar Jackson who looked incredible at the end of the season.

10 wins isn't impossible. I'm gonna be conservative and say 8-4 though. Our youth has to become experience at some point, and this is the beginning of it.

I wasn't. I feel like there's 5-6 games we "should" win, 3-4 toss ups. If we just happen to come out on the right side by coincidence or being slightly better than I expect then we're at 8. Steal one from or two from a big boy (which we know is very possible) and 10 wins is definitely possible. It's not realistic, but that's why I said only 8-4

Sept. 3 WILLIAM & MARY (Wolfpack Club Day) W
Sept. 10 @ East Carolina Toss-up (Advantage: ECU)
Sept. 17 OLD DOMINION (Hall of Fame Weekend/Varsity All-Sports Reunion) W
Oct. 1 WAKE FOREST W
Oct. 8 NOTRE DAME (50th Anniversary of Carter-Finley Stadium) L
Oct. 15 @ Clemson L
Oct. 22 @ Louisville L
Oct. 29 BOSTON COLLEGE (Homecoming) Toss-up (Advantage: State)
Nov. 5 FLORIDA STATE L
Nov. 12 @ Syracuse Toss-up (Advantage: State)
Nov. 19 MIAMI (Fla.) L
Nov. 25 @ UNC-CH L

3-6 with 3 toss-up games. W&M and OD should be wins (but we'll see considering the past 3 years of OOC).

ECU beat the shit out of us last time, and their team did pretty well this year with their 2nd/3rd QB in. I expect them to improve and be a tough game (plus we're their biggest rival, so they'll want to kick our ass). I give them the advantage.

Wake is coming in to Carter-Finley after losing a few leaders on defense (their defense has lost their biggest play makers the past 2 years and they haven't reloaded, expect their defense to be weak this year), so our team should be able to handle them.

ND, Clemson, and Louisville have great coaching staffs, good recruiting classes, and great players with experience returning.

BC is in the same boat we are with a mediocre coaching staff (especially since their DC left). I give us the advantage at home.

FSU, Miami, and UNC just have too many great players returning this year. I expect all three to be an ass whooping.

Finally, Syracuse is a team that matches up with us well. We're 2-1 against them in ACC play and all three games were within 2 scores. Even though it is an away game, I give us the advantage with our new OC being the X-factor.

Final Result: 5-7

With how mediocre the position coaches have been, I expect this team to not improve. We have been doing worse in recruiting and I think that will show. We don't have enough play makers on the offense to sustain drives and our defensive coaching staff (specifically the CB and S coaches) will hold us back. I think we will under-perform for the 3rd time in DD's 4 years here. If we're lucky we can make a bowl game at 5-7, but if we do this bad I hope that we won't so Yow will make some actual changes with the team.

The Eagles are the only ACC team without a Power 5 nonconference opponent on the schedule."

I feel like I gave us good criticism. We're facing a tough slate and this team probably won't make a huge jump with the lack of talent.

^i think it's like every 6 years. our crossover opponent is UNC every season, of course. and then the other 6 coastal teams we just rotate. iirc, last time we played Duke was Doeren's first season...2013. since then...

2014: georgia tech
2015: virginia tech
2016: miami

so we'll have to play UVa and Pitt in '17 and '18 (dunno if it's been announced which is which) and then my guess would be duke in 2019. but somebody can feel free to correct me...i know adding Pitt, Cuse, and UL may have thrown a wrench into the normal rotation.

not so much about the predictions but the reasoning.

Quote :
"ECU beat the shit out of us last time,"

irrelevant because it was too long ago.

Quote :
"FSU, Miami, and UNC just have too many great players returning this year. I expect all three to be an ass whooping."

miami wasn't great last year so returning people doesn't necessarily make them great no more than it would for us. The talent gap between us and all of these teams will be smaller than last year.

Quote :
"Finally, Syracuse is a team that matches up with us well. We're 2-1 against them in ACC play and all three games were within 2 scores."

this is such a twist that it almost has to be deliberate. You are throwing in the 2013 games which is irrelevant (everyone beat us that year) and then lying about the games being close. they don't match up well against us. we destroyed them this year and were up 42-16 in the 4th.

Quote :
"We have been doing worse in recruiting and I think that will show."

this is an outright lie. its the polar opposite of the truth. every class has been better than the previous class and this years class is replacing a class that was ranked 87th in the country. more of our big time recruits will be on the field next year in bigger roles with more experience.
Quote :
"We don't have enough play makers on the offense to sustain drives"

WHAT? Again, POLAR opposite of the truth. We might have too many playmakers.

For example, we're going to have 3 four star running backs on the field next year and that doesn't even include our best two running backs.

Quote :
" I think we will under-perform for the 3rd time in DD's 4 years here."

What does underperforming mean? What were the expectations in the first 3 years? We've improved each year and beaten everyone we should have beaten.
Quote :
"BC is in the same boat we are "

This one is just shameful. We beat BC 24-7 last year. We are in the same boat as them the same way Rose Dewitt was on the same boat as Jack Dawson. We're dining with SEC old money while they are doing Irish dances in the cellar.

2015 was not an improvement over 2014. Brissett got worse, the D was still sketch and gave up a ton of huge plays, and we still haven't beaten a good team in the DD era. Obviously it would be great to see a better 2016, but 7-5 will be our ceiling.

If you look at the numbers...2015 was an improvement. Better defensive numbers, better offensive numbers. We blew out the cream puffs. We beat Wake and BC on the road and we didn't get blown out by Clemson.

We lost to a UNC team that went 11-1 in the regular season and we lost our bowl game to a really good Mississippi State team.

Technically, we had a better year than last year.

Brissett was Brissett. He wasn't any worse than he was in 2014, he just didn't get better...which makes people think he was worse.

Think the main problems were that Doeren HYPED up Brissett commenting on his "deep ball" and how much better of a runner/passer he was. He looked slow, less decisive, and his deep ball was still hit or miss this year.

I think our WR core actually looked deeper this year than the year before, I thought some guys looked much improved and Hines has a ton of potential. The problem was our offense just wasn't as consistent with the passing game and we just didn't help Brissett get in a rhythm. I mean down the stretch we were using Hines more as a running option than a receiving option and we didn't even make it a point to get Grinnage the ball.

Think Canada was the problem with our passing game more than Brissett was. Hence why he got shown the door.

The way the coaches talk, Frasier sounds like he's going to be big for us next year. Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up #2 on the depth chart based around the hype.

Offense is going to depend on how the OL meshes with 3 new starters and how the QB plays(McClendon or Meyers).

Haha, wasn't trying to "state the obvious", but I think our RBs, WRs, and TEs are all going to be fine. If our OL can just be above-average and our QB be above-average, I think the offense will be better than last year.

I definitely think our RBs and TEs will be good/great this year (especially since we don't have Canada wasting great talent like he did with Grinnage), but I fail to see what we have at WR that could even be average. If we can use our backs and TEs in passing scenarios then I could see us doing well running and passing, but I'm not sure I see that the WRs will do anything important. The OL is the big question though....as it seems it always has been.
