Snort.https://twitter.com/jacobbogage/status/664318370645413888So, the Mizzou student body president just had to post a retraction about an alert that the KKK had been spotted on campus.
11/11/2015 2:32:59 AM
^ according to Reddit, Mizzou YikYak is filled with threats of attacking blacks on their campus, and lots of other racial slurs... i can see why people are a little on edge.
11/11/2015 2:56:14 AM
No, I understand that and I hope the people at yik yak have the good sense to release the IP addresses of those users so they can be investigated, but the level of panic is so disproportionate to what is going on that it's officially jumped the shark.I'm sure of a few things:1) at least a couple of those yik yak threats will have come from black students2) classes will be cancelled3) Not a damn thing will happen to anyone in terms of physical violence tomorrow[Edited on November 11, 2015 at 3:20 AM. can't we all just get along
11/11/2015 6:47:29 AM
The university president should send out a personal email to every student reminding them that they are all unique and special little butterflies and at Mizzou they should be free from anything that may make them feel uncomfortable or require them to put on their big boy/girl panties
11/11/2015 11:00:49 AM
^Don't be a bigot. You can't use gender-specific terms anymore when talking about undergarments. You might offend someone.

Looks like the police have arrested one guy, Hunter Park, for making terroristic threats against students and faculty at Mizzouhttp://www.riverfronttimes.com/newsblog/2015/11/11/mizzou-police-take-suspect-into-custody-after-social-media-threat[Edited on November 11, 2015 at 11:33 AM. Reason : Hh]

Hunter is such an asshole name.
11/11/2015 11:52:18 AM
I don't see how rich someone's dad has anything to do with their protesting.
11/11/2015 12:16:36 PM
From what I understand they are protesting about some incident ^ in 2010, some recent incident of a random red neck saying the N word at a conference of African Americans, and some African Americans being turned away from some douche frats kegger. If students put this energy toward real issues like the environment, wall street reform, etcPerhaps we really could build a better society where people of all colors benefit.

I just got back from a week in Seattlelike all major cities, there is major housing segregationunlike all major cities, there are barely any black people. it's freaky.

That university is an institution that, like other institutions, gets to decide how it wants its public face to be represented. They decided that they do not want to be associated with racism and let it be known very firmly that those views will not be tolerated. The President's lack of action on this issue, as well as the Chancellor's, were not seen as suitable for the students/ institution which they present.... Thus they were shown the door. They were not arrested, tried, or convicted of any crime; because they did not commit a crime. They were forced out by their employer who, like other employers, get to decide if they want to even have a loose association with racist fucknuts.I don't get why there is a discussion about this, honestly.
11/11/2015 12:45:11 PM
Because people called for a guy's resignation on account of a drunk guy acting drunk and someone else yelling out the window of a car. I guess the pres could have said "that stuff is dumb, don't do it," but I'm not really sure what else people were expecting.
11/11/2015 1:02:24 PM
Yeah, I'm unclear on what he was supposed to do.They just wanted some lip service?
11/11/2015 1:09:35 PM
A little acknowledgement and commiseration can go a long way. Also - apparently he was confronted by a group of students about issues like these and they were completely ignored.

By the way the issue with housing in Portland or Seattle is all economic. Housing on the city has become exceedingly prohibitively expensive. Unfortunately there is a correlation between being a minority (black, Asian immigrant, etc) and lower income per capita. Thus more monitored live outside the city. There is no hidden conspiracy to keep communities white only or to suppress minorities from succeeding. If anything these cities are the capitals of being PC
11/11/2015 1:23:04 PM
Well.... Actually addressing the students' concerns would be a pretty damn good start. No one is expecting a silver bullet to end all racism coming from the President... That is a silly extreme of the false dilemma, and you should be ashamed for falling for it. But to say to the students ”look, I hear you. Work with me/ help me come up with ways....." would probably go a long way in showing he has a genuine interest in their concerns. At the very least, NOT blaming the victims would have been a good look. I mean, did you all see the video posted to the last page?^^^ nope. The students have no power to force the president to step down. Only his employer (or board of directors) has the ability to do that. What the students and athletes did was peacefully 'scream' so loud, drawing so much attention to the issue, that the institution was left with no choice but to confront it.[Edited on November 11, 2015 at 1:28 PM. your comment about ending online anonymity is some 1984-type sarcasm, right? like, no college educated person could possibly think that's a good idea, correct?
11/11/2015 1:35:06 PM
Yes. Although it's no different than publishing people's IP addresses. Or what Anonymous did to me. They saw fit to release my name and credit card details because I subscribed to Stratfor in the past and...they don't like people reading educated thoughts on geopolitics I guess. And within a week someone tried to do fraud with my credit card.Re colleges and PC out of control, read this a couple months ago about how comedians completely avoid doing gigs there now. http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/09/thats-not-funny/399335/

should I really have to use a VPN to post on the Wolf Web?

There are two educators on this site who have posted with conservative views, and people have threatened both of their jobs. I think anonymity does us good here.

^ you're looking at the events in isolation, but there has been a long string of events that affected the students broadly, and Wolfe didn't do much to address them. He wasn't a good leader, racism or no racism.I'm not sure why people who had never heard of wolfe until this point feel the need to defend him against a campus community that seemed united against him, including large amounts of faculty, and the football coaches. Actually... i do know, but i'll leave this as a soul searching lesson for you.
11/12/2015 12:32:49 AM
I guess I just haven't heard what this "long string of horrible racially motivated events" is. I've just heard those two, plus the faked story about the feces swastika, and the cotton balls from 2010. Everybody says there's more to it, but I haven't heard it. But seriously, calling the cops because somebody called you a bad name is pretty stupid.]
11/12/2015 12:57:05 AM
^ this is from their campus newspaper:http://www.themaneater.com/special-sections/mu-fall-2015/and "faked story about poop swastika", can't believe you've bought into this. Has anyone actually came out and said it was fake? Is there any evidence that the police and RAs made this up? This wasn't the first swaztika incident on their campus either.

BTW how is it racist that some chick in California wore a sombrero and mustache for Halloween....I wore a kilt, plaid scarf, and blue face paint for Halloween. I hope I didn't offend any Scots that may have been in PDX. I feel bad that I didn't take into consideration the feelings of Scots-Americans before wearing this insensitive costume.
11/12/2015 2:10:09 AM
It's not going to be Trump, and Obama himself has come out against the hypersensitivity from college kids. But on Wolfpack Students Facebook, there's people unironically posting links from Glenn Beck's site. The up and coming generation of college kids is definitely going to be an interesting mix of white civil rights activists fighting windmills and Bernie Sanders' brand of socialism.

Apparently the Black Culture Center on campus was vandalized as well.
11/12/2015 8:12:59 AM
All this could be fixed really easily if before people did stuff they asked themselves, "Does this make me an asshole?" If they answer is yes or even maybe then you probably just shouldn't do it. Not only would that take care of racism, but also a majority of the other issues caused by the world being full of a bunch of assholes.

I'm sure the rich Jewish students that were offended by it can use that as a basis for a protest against "oppression" 5 years later.
