To my knowledge, there still isn't a fix but I'm sure if they figure one out it will. I'm going with the buyback, I've not driven the car (2014 Jetta sportwagen) in over a year anyway, and I was actually about to sell it when the scandal broke. Worked out pretty well for me, I'm getting about $30k for it. The whole process has been a nightmare though. I submitted all my documents at the end of October and was told I'd get a final offer within 10 business days; I just got it Friday and the soonest appointment I could get to turn the car in was mid February.
