This game isn't any more taxing than some other recent new games. On an M GPU on a laptop I imagine it wouldn't run that great. I'm running it at 70-80 FPS with Nvidia Hairworks turned off with a 980. Turning it on drops it by 10-15 FPS.

For crafting? I keep basically everything for alchemy as it doesn't weigh much at all. For crafting I haven't gotten much yet but I do usually find stuff better than I can craft. Don't think I've played enough of the game to craft witcher gear (only lvl 9).

The 15 fps was on 4k Ultra.

If I turned Nvidia Hair works on it would have melted my laptop.

You're trying to run a 4k display with a 980m? Get a real computer! I never understood gaming computers. Get a decent ultrabook and a decent gaming desktop. Unless you really need to travel and game I don't see the need for one.

Plus 4k only runs at 60hz. Try running a 2560 by 1440 monitor at 144hz. Needs way more horsepower than 4k.

lol no that isn't my set up I was just testing it on my TV.

I agree the concept of a "gaming notebook" is dumb in terms of bang for your buck, I do actually move around a lot with it though. 980M is overkill for what I play in most cases.

So I started out last week, and have only played a few hours, but I got to say, I'm fucking lost, where do I get better armor/weapons? I'm level 4 and wandering around but most of the stuff kills me and I can't find a town with a blacksmith.

Follow the main quest first, if you wander off at a low level most of the random monsters will be too high of a level (have red number/skull above them).

I'm back at Kaehr Morgan (probably 50% done with the game?) and I have't done any alchemy/smithing stuff yet.

The main quest takes me to go find the Baron's brother who is being attacked by two level 9 monsters that I can't damage.

Are you playing on the lowest difficulty? You may need to switch it if you don't want to worry about the potions/poisons/preparations for boss fights. I don't know which quest you're talking about.

i'm about 6 hours in now and this game is the tits. i tried out both witcher 1 and 2 a couple years ago and didn't enjoy it that much, mostly due to the combat. However, this chapter has finally made the combat feeling more fluid. I'm really enjoying this one.

I came from mostly a baldur's gate / elder scrolls / dragon age type of RPG background, so had to get used to the "action-esque" feeling of the combat. once i learned not to just spam fast attack, and start approaching each encounter as a "witcher" (i.e. using dodge rolls, parry's, ripostes and signs regularly) and throwing in some potions during hard fights, i started to be more successful.

Bbehe you still in white orchard (the tutorial area) or have you gone on to Velen yet? If you have gone to Velen but didn't find all of the places of power in White Orchard you should look up a map online and fast travel back to get them.

I'll post some more tips after work

Oh shit that was posted in June of last year.

Anyway the most important thing in the combat is using the right ways to avoid attacks. Dodge is best probably 2/3 of the time, normally dodging to the side. Parrying is useful against humans and some fast creatures like wolves and neckers that can still dodge you after you dodge their attacks and counter with a fast attack. Rolling is only useful to get out of groups and prevent being surrounded and to avoid huge moster attacks. It's too slow to counter attack with and it hinders your stamina regeneration so don't roll often.

They are really good. Yeah they are pretty big too. I'd say they are worth 25 bucks for the season pass.

i bought the game during the steam summer sale, so i think if you currently have the game you can get the season pass at a pro-rated price atm.

I just finished hearts of stone, very solid for DLC.

For a mini game, Gwent is awesome. CD Projekt Red should really make a mobile app for it

I need to grab a copy of this. I'm more a fan of the dragon age/baldurs gate style rpg but I've heard nothin but great things about this

i'm on nearly the last mission now. i definitely did a good chunk of side quests, but 60 hours in to get to this point. Definitely one of the most enjoyable, in-depth RPG's i've played in years. I think i like this better than any of the dragon age games.
