A lot of people don't like mayonaise on french fries, or butter on chocolate muffins, but I do.

it got buried on the last page, so I wanted to repeat that I kinda like Adolf Hitler'cause he was so talented, and devoted to his cause. I know I should hate him for the Holocaust, causing WWI, etc. but I don't, for some reason. shrug.
5/23/2015 1:34:38 AM
That's like saying I like Dahmer because he was so talented and devoted to his purpose. I should hate him for raping, and killing, and eating 30 men, but I don't.
5/23/2015 1:14:05 PM
yeah, but Jeffrey Dahmer WASN'T talented...he was just a loser perv. he had no admirable or noteworthy qualities whatsoever, as far as I know. Also, he ate people...and he killed them for his sexual urges and because he was too cowardly to try to fuck them honestly. don't even bring Jeffrey Dahmer (whose name I'm ashmed to share) into this discussion. apples and oranges. also, whoops, I meant WWII, not WWI.]

In fairness Hitler was only an ancillary cause of WWII. Germany was going to go back to war with France and England at some point anyway because of what the Treaty of Versailles did to them. It was just a matter of time. It's something that many, many people noted in 1919 and even before honestly when they were talking about the need for an end to the war that did not have a punitive outcome for the loser.Good points - great orator, gifted leader and statesman, decent painter.Bad points - genocidal mass murderer, meddled in military decisions of generals resulting in additional needless military deaths
5/23/2015 3:56:17 PM
They were both mass-murderers, so the only apples to oranges I see here is the scale of their mass-murders.

EMCE, I told you this would be more interesting.

^^there's no reason in the world why anybody would respect Dahmer...he was a coward who never achieved anything.Hitler, on the other hand, possessed real greatness - more greatness than any human being in the past 50 years has possessed, perhaps - and I find it hard not to admire greatness, even when it resides in a very evil man. by "greatness" I mean that he rose from obscurity to become dictator of Germany - unquestioned, absolute fucking ruler of one of the most powerful nations on Earth - wholly by his own skill, industry and courage.yes, he was a horrible person, and I should probably hate him for it. But I'm missing the emotional fuse that would cause me to hate him. I'm not a bad person at all - I try hard to be a good person, in fact - but I suck at empathizing with total strangers whom I've never seen and live far away from me. I'm much better at empathizing with animals. incidentally, I DO hate Dahmer - mostly because he was so contemptible. he was a little bitch used to put drugs in men's drinks before he turned to murder. and he killed people largely so that he could have sex (i.e. he probably wouldn't have committed his crimes if he'd just been getting gay sex from living men on the reg.) I'm not sure why these motives seem worse than Hitler's. but, shrug, I guess it's really just aesthetics at that point.]

greatness? yes he was very charismatic and that allowed him to gain a huge amount of power. that does not mean he was "great"... once he got that power he wasted huge amounts of resources on a war, that because of his direct meddling, was lost with great cost to the countrymen he was supposed to be working for. simply put, he squandered his power because of his ineptitude... by your definition of "great" that pretty much disqualifies him... he could have been "great" (by your definition), and certainly sold the german public on his greatness, but his utter lack of strategic sense shredded his veil of self proclaimed brilliance. as to the "common" definition of greatness... he killed over 5 million jews, 2-3 million soviet POW's, 2 million polish, and hundreds of thousands of other "undesirables" based on ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, or physical disabilities. you, my friend, are a sociopath. go to a shrink. (hitler would have exterminated you by the way for mental illness.)[Edited on May 23, 2015 at 11:46 PM. Reason : sociopath ]

You don't have to sympathize or have the ability to sympathize - let alone empathize - with the victims of a mass murderer to hate a mass murderer.

every time I try to respond to ^^, I realize I'm defending Hitler...and while I'm okay with listing his accomplishments, I'm not comforting defending him. and I shouldn't have posted this thing which I wasn't prepared to defend. and I agree in spirit with what you say. so, I abscond my position.really though, man, I'm not a sociopath...I'm a nice person, and I try hard to live a moral life and not hurt people. if I'm kinda fucked up in the head, that's probably a result of certain traumatizing events suffered in early life. ]
