Does this news really have the legs to significantly impact the midterms?I don't think that it's the worst move that she could have made. It's probably better timing than if she had done so after she announced her campaign.[Edited on October 16, 2018 at 8:41 AM. Reason : ]

There is no way this will help her.

This is a tough call...if she gets the nomination Trump calls her Pocahontas throughout the race with the insinuation that she's lying and won't take a test. If you would like to argue that turns more people off of him than on, I would refer you to the last presidential election. It's not the worst idea to try and get out ahead of that, though were it me I probably would have held the results until some debate or something where you could produce them and put him on the spot immediately after saying he'd donate a million bucks or something like thatOn the other hand, since her percentage is that low he can continue to call her Pocahontas with a different, equally damaging connotation, or even switch her name to "3%" or something like that. Plus anyone pointing out that Native American groups won't like this are clearly correct, as some have already spoken up negatively.

Unfortunately she kind of shot herself in the food with this one and just gives Trump more ammunition.

Everyone should read that book ^She just played right into it.
10/16/2018 9:55:52 AM
To dumb ^ down, she allowed herself to be easily manipulated by Trump.
10/16/2018 10:16:43 AM
This seems silly to me.

^,^^,^^^The problem with the above is that the logical way to fight that is to ignore him and continue your message on the more important topics. Guess what? Most people who voted for him don't and don't want to understand those topics, so when you let Trump just talk about the wall or whatever with no counter, they fall even harder for it because, "He's the only one out here talking about the important stuff!"[Edited on October 16, 2018 at 10:28 AM. This was the death of her 2020 campaign, no one this willing to play themselves has a chance against Trump
10/16/2018 11:01:48 AM
Her problem is that that “truth” doesn’t actually matter. It’s the same thing with Obama’s birth certificate, really. Trump kept shouting a lie over and over again, but even after he showed proof he was born in Hawaii, the damage had been done and there are still a crazy number of people who will never change their minds about Obama. On one hand, I think she personally feels vindicated and is glad that she has not only her family’s stories to corroborate her, but DNA evidence to back her up. Trump has been beyond awful to her, so I can’t blame her for fighting back. On the other, actual oppressed Native Americans are pissed and calling her out for using a technicality as “evidence” of her supposed identity for own on convenience. The fact that Trump has just sucker punched women and #metoo with the SCOTUS game, while energizing his base makes me feel like this was super poor timing on her part.As I said before, I actually like Warren and what she’s done in Washington, but I have serious doubts anyone the Dems run can actually beat Trump- at least not right, anyway.
10/16/2018 11:11:19 AM
You can’t beat Trump in this game unless your are willing to go down to the depraved depths he lives in. He’s one of the worst people on earth. To combat that you can’t just delve in narcisissm and depravity, you have to live it (see Avenatti).[Edited on October 16, 2018 at 11:26 AM. Reason : He can be beaten and will be once we have 1.2-1.5% gdp in 2020]
10/16/2018 11:25:28 AM
^ Clinton started to do it when it was already too late. "Imagine that man with his hand on the nuclear button.".Pretty horrifying. Fear ranks highest on the persuasion scale. The way you combat it from the left is something like, "Trump is buying $10,000 Champagne with your tax dollars.". You can't feed your family, but Wall Street is flying first class to Europe for the weekend."[Edited on October 16, 2018 at 11:35 AM. Reason : A][Edited on October 16, 2018 at 11:35 AM. Reason : A]

I'm not sure what Elizabeth Warren's chances of defeating Donald Trump were beforehand, but I can't imagine that undecided voters would compare the two candidates and decide that this issue is what would solidify their decision to reelect Donald Trump as president. Although, I suppose that this, accumulated with several other factors, could cause some voters to not vote for either candidate. That being said, given that Donald Trump previously squeaked out a win over possibly the second most disliked candidate in modern American political history, wouldn't even a somewhat likable candidate have a better chance of defeating him?[Edited on October 16, 2018 at 11:38 AM. Ford was likable and believable and Trump humiliated her and get his SCOTUS nom rammed through. And I'd argue that only left-leaning people like Warren, and only working class ones, at that. Others see her as a Harvard/shrill type, and while I think her supporters (myself included) think that she had every right to do what she did, others are going to look at her as either weak/calculating.It's going to probably have to take a man to beat Trump, and a white one at that. It's not at all what I'd like to see, personally, but Trump doesn't play politics with actual policies. He does it with head games and chaos. And remember: he doesn't even need to win the popular vote, he just needs to do what he did last time and poach independents in swing states, and he can do that by bragging about the economy. We are fucked for the time being. Once midterms are over and the Mueller probe finishes up, things can change pretty quickly. I really think these tariff wars are going to be what bites him in the ass more than anything else. The bad thing is that Trump has been on a roll lately, so a lot of people who may have been energized to go out and vote aren't feeling very empowered right now. I'm not so sure Trump can just crow about the economy the next time around. The people who voted for him because the economy was leaving them behind are most likely still being left behind
10/16/2018 12:02:42 PM
He'll give us a tax credit in 2019 and no one will care that the other 99.99% of the money went to the rich.
10/16/2018 12:15:19 PM
^ That, or another bailout.^^^ Off topic, but you don't think that Kamala Harris could defeat Donald Trump?

They couldn't even get white women to vote for a white woman

Maybe Democrats could reverse the "own the libs" strategy and "own the conservatives" with a black female president.
