how are they any less equipped than the major broadcast and cable networks?

I don't know the answer to that question - it just seems like a lot for netflix to handle, especially just based off of subscriber fees of only 8/month, with no ad revenue.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they do it, and I hope they are able to continue, but they are going to eventually reach subscriber saturation and realize they can only put out x amount of shows each season without increasing prices. And I'm ok if they do. They could probably go up 4-5/month and I wouldn't really care, as long as they keep putting stuff like this out.

Netflix averages a quarterly earning of about 1.2 billion with a B dollars. They will be fine.

Finally finished it up. Thought it was damn good and added some needed grit to marvel. However, it did get a little slow and dry towards the last few episodes.

And I agree, they left things very clean, but just enough for King Pin to become even more of who he is.

I was disappointed that they spent so much time on some of the side characters issues (Urich's wife for example). The hospital scenes bored the crap out of me.

And the Dr...she just seemingly vanished....this made me sad

Started off as 10/10. Finished as a 8/10.

This was awesome. I will agree with some of the comments that the later episodes seemed a little weaker than the beginning, but overall it was awesome. For Marvel I was really surprised at the bloodiness of the series. Blood, broken bones, and beatings everywhere. Ready for season 2, and as long at they keep up this level of production I'm excited for the other Defenders series as well.

Highlights:
Episode 2 hallway fight.
Kingpin's crack about wearing a white suit and an ascot. (then wearing white anyway at the end)
Kingpin's character development as a whole

Very nice, I think we get Elektra and hopefully more Hand (who it's likely that Nobu was working for) next season.

Madam Gao and her likely organization will probably not pop up much until Iron Fist.

i dig it.

the "omg can you be a hero without becoming a dark entity??" shit is getting pretty tired in pop culture generally but i don't really watch other superhero shit anymore so I guess I can deal with one instance.

the karen in matt's apt for the first time with the electronic billboard lighting was awesome.

hallway fight was obviously great. very jackie chan in how they don't lazily cut away to accidentally hide the impact of hits, and how exhausted he was, and how they play a lot of hits for laughs.

the karen/wesley scene was great.

Loving this through episode 4.

Does Daredevil qualify as a superhero though? I thought the big thing about the Defenders were that they were just normal people with extraordinary talents.

Tony Stark doesn't have real powers unless you count intelligence. Daredevil was made out to be a villain by the media in the first season, the lack of trust in people who wear masks was pretty heavy. I think they would want him to go public as well.

Just finished the season. I really liked it overall.

The casting seemed very limited. There weren't a lot of main characters really. .

Also, the acting of the guy who played Wilson Fiske really bothered me. He acted like a big baby half the time and his speech was so....broken....up....and....abrupt.

I, too, like Thomas Jane as the Punisher. He was kind of like Pierce Brosnan as James Bond -- excellent casting and acting, just a poor script to work with. There was a short film that Thomas Jane made a few years back as the Punisher called "Dirty Laundry" that was really good. It even had Ron Perlman in it. Oh well, I'm pleased that they are adding the character to the Daredevil show -- given how violent the first season one, I'm really pumped to see them amp it up with the Punisher.

I've heard rumors Netflix might be trying to expand the Marvel universe outside of the Defenders, and if this is the case I'd be comfortable watching Bernthal in a series as Castle.

I thought the plan was already for The Punisher to have his own series.

Would Daredevil and The Punisher be working together or against each other?

I'm thinking they'll start off working together until DD sees the lines that Punisher is willing to cross.

Part way into the first season.

Amazing so far. REALLY awesome with a good sound system. So much rain and lightning. Also when he tells if people are lying or not.

Just watched the hallway fight scene again and realized, if the doors to the henchman rooms were closed and the door with the girl inside didn't have an actual lock (just a bolt) he could have just quietly walked down the hall, grabbed the girl, and snuck back out. Instead he busts into that room and makes a ruckus.

Obviously because is tv....but just sayin.

Not getting the love for this show, but maybe I went in with my hopes too high after reading the jerk session on this thread.

I think it hit its peak after the hallway fight session. I agree...that was amazing. But then downhill after that. Way too much talking and character development. I'm not against character development, even in a comic book show...but they went overboard. I didn't need Karen and Foggy to have the same emotional conversation over and over again...same thing with Karen and Ben. And I thought Vincent D'Onofrio was terrible as Kingpin. They got the look down pretty well, but the voice...that fucking voice! It was worse than Bale talking as Batman. I could have muted it every time he had a speaking part.

I just feel like they tried to be serious, but still came off cheesy. Don't know if I'll even get the 2nd season a try and still trying to figure out how it got such rave reviews.

*forgot about the parkour display when he was tracking the car with the blind asian dude back to the drug warehouse. That's a great example of unnecessary cheesiness that I thought this show was trying to avoid.

Finished S1 of this last month. Was solid, but not as amazing as some of my friends had claimed it to be.

Agreed. I found this annoying as well. I also get that he's the "big badass" but find it unlikely that he can go toe to toe with DD in a fight. He's a big fat guy that's never shown to workout/practice fighting.

The emphasis on Hell's Kitchen is also a bit funny/stretching. I know the comic book origins, but really so much of the show takes place all over Manhattan and even Queens/Brooklyn a bit, not just a medium sized niche region of Manhattan.

We basically saw same inner struggle with Daredevil and Kingpin for the final 5 or 6 episodes. Not saying you're not suppose to touch on it here and there....but for 3/4 of every episode (after the first couple)...it was "talk talk talk...struggle struggle struggle...talk talk talk". It was way overdone...IMO.

I like straight action shows/movies...and I like character development. I really like it when they successfully combine the two...but again, IMO...there was too much of the talky talky character development and less of the action in the second half of the series.

I NEVER fall asleep during movies or tv shows...I think I fell asleep at least three times watching Daredevil.

This 2nd season looks better...but so did the trailers for the first season.
