Everyone else who works in the department had 4 years to correct her/turn her in for it. I highly doubt this is actually a big deal, and is really just her opponents (like Jeb Bush) turning it into a big deal.
3/3/2015 2:18:17 PM
I don't know how federal laws work, but on the state level, it doesn't matter what email address you use, as long as you retain backups. When i initially read the headlines for this, I assumed the issue was using a non-secure account vs. a (theoretically) more secured government email system.
3/3/2015 2:21:49 PM
I thought I had read that she certainly was not the first to NOT use a government email address, in fact, most of the recent SoS did not.

i'd bet most people under retention laws use personal email accounts for official business even if only accidentally. If you have an exchange email account, you might create a personal gmail account to share documents with, and end up conducting some business in this process under that account. This happens all the time. What would be interesting is if hillary has a pattern of doing this with the intention of skirting retention laws, but she would be a complete idiot if this was the case. There's no email that can't be intercepted and retained, and once the recipient has a copy the sender obviously has no control over that. And she should know from her husband's experiences that she can't trust anyone.I don't have a problem, in the year 2015, with someone not using their work email account for everything, but if there is evidence she intentionally tried to hide something, then she deserves whatever flak she gets.[Edited on March 3, 2015 at 2:29 PM. bdmazur is probably right about the public's memoryyet another news link on the e-mail scandal: http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/hillary-clinton-used-private-e-mail-for-government-business-at-state-dept/2015/03/02/275d13d8-c156-11e4-9271-610273846239_story.htmlWhen I first heard the story, I thought maybe she had occasionally used her personal e-mail, that she had a government e-mail account and an old Hotmail account or something that she still kicked around. Then I read that she had never gotten a government e-mail account while at the State Department. After that, I read that she registered that personal e-mail account on the day she was confirmed as Secretary of State (and on a domain her family owned, clintonemail.com) and then dragged her feet on properly archiving any of her e-mails regarding official business. If this doesn't blow over (especially if it's because she ends up sending all her Secretary of State e-mails to be archived), we'll need another strong Democratic Presidential candidate for 2016.---BTW the first Secretary of State to regularly use a government e-mail account is the current one, John Forbes Kerry.

so were any laws actually broken or whatisnt she like 2 weeks from declaring shes running
3/3/2015 8:31:12 PM
I'm not so sure; AFAIK it seems like she technically stayed within the bounds of the lawsomething her husband is also famous for
3/3/2015 8:58:30 PM
I don't think any laws were technically broken, but this does shed light on the practice, and why it is done.
3/4/2015 11:04:43 AM
I do this with my work email, probably for the same reason HC does, its one less way to get in trouble.

3/5/2015 5:30:07 PM
I think you underestimate just how much antipathy she generates. There are large segments of the democratic base that find her absolutely revolting. That doesn't mean that they'll vote republican, but it will kill voter turnout amongst groups like the 20 somethings that turned out in massive numbers to vote for Obama the first time. It's hard to imagine a more entrenched, establishment candidate from either side. The republicans would literally have to trot out McCain again in order to have somebody the public could have a comparable level of cynicism towards. She's not just a horrible person, she's a horrible candidate.

I'm actually surprised at dtownral's lack of support for Hillary, but then I remember that he's probably in the bag for someone like Elizabeth Warren.

you're surprised? do you just never read the soap box?
3/9/2015 11:51:52 AM
Actually I haven't read much TSB lately, been kinda busy at work and at home. And politics have been getting me down. I haven't been reading much current events lately either.
3/9/2015 2:04:31 PM
its more surprising that Shrike is so far up Clinton's ass instead of Warren's given his supposed "principles"
3/9/2015 6:02:41 PM
Shrike is a democratic party hack, not a liberal
3/9/2015 6:18:24 PM
I don't like Hillary but the fact is she will easily win a normal election in 2016 if current trends hold. That is, barring something like a terrorist attack, financial crisis, or some deviant sex shit exposed about Bill. She's not a good candidate but the Republicans are running a Bush or Scott fucking Walker. If Warren wants to run, that's great, but I don't think President is really her gig and none of the other Democrat hopefuls are ready. I do think running her own personal email server was shady as fuck though.
3/9/2015 7:16:15 PM
What if HC is like the Bev Perdue of Presidents, she is the first female to hold the office, then has nothing to show for her term, opts out of running again instead of facing off with an even shittier GOP candidate.Who would like the Gov. Mcrory be in 2020?
3/9/2015 7:25:52 PM
I see Scott walker doing well nationally. The thing democrats hate most about him is that he's extremely anti Union, but Americans are anti Union. This won't hurt him. I think his economic policy would be disastrous, austerity would not be good, but I see independent voters liking him more than Hillary.
3/9/2015 8:36:35 PM
haha, you see scott walker doing well nationally
3/9/2015 8:50:00 PM
I think Shrike is wrong here. People are going to get Hillary fatigue.
3/9/2015 9:47:13 PM
there has been plentiful clinton fatigue for quite some time; to her detriment she likes to keep reminding usthe democrat hillary inevitability attitude is in the minority now; people like Shrike are doing more harm than good
3/9/2015 10:07:29 PM
I don't understand where you people get this shit.http://www.politico.com/story/2015/03/nbcwsj-national-poll-voters-want-change-115916.html?hp=l4_4Eighty-six percent of Democrats said they would back Clinton if she ran for executive office.
3/9/2015 10:40:12 PM
Yup, I'm sure that the self selecting sample who answers polls like that certainly will. The real question is whether or not she has any appeal for independents or can generate enough excitement to bring out people who otherwise wouldn't vote, the exhausted and apathetic who make up such a large percentage of the public. I would certainly be willing to bet that voter turnout will be near a historic low if it's Hillary vs. Jeb.
3/9/2015 11:45:08 PM
The basic math working against the GOP hasn't really changed since 2012, any candidate from their side has to face an electoral map that looks like this,This is being very generous counting WI, NH, IA, and (legal weed) CO as tossups in a general election, at least two of those will be considered safe D well before election day. They will have to play some defense in a lot of the "safe" red states as well (like NC). Until something happens to change this, any discussion about the next President is purely academic. You can throw Republican fools gold AKA Pennsylvania in there as a toss up if you want.[Edited on March 10, 2015 at 1:59 PM.
