These last two weeks have been much watch. I hope this means the shackles are off.

shoutout to Colbert, Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Kimmel for being adults with broadcast late night talk shows bigger shoutout to those who are new to watching "A Closer Look" on a regular basis

So who wasn't being an adult, and how?[Edited on September 28, 2016 at 12:02 AM. Reason : good tip on a closer look]

But has Fallon ever been an adult? He'll be acting 14 for the rest of his life. And it won't be funny when he's Dave's age. Dave wasn't funny when he was Dave's age.
9/28/2016 9:40:35 AM
...and Fallon has never been funny. What's your point?
9/28/2016 10:40:33 AM
Letterman has never not been funny
9/28/2016 12:12:20 PM
Letterman is hilarious and extremely well respected amongst professional comics. He definitely slipped as he got older...but he also didn't give a fuck...which made him more awesome.I guess back to the topic...why are we complaining about Jimmy Fallon here?[Edited on September 28, 2016 at 1:55 PM. Because he wasn't being an adult.

Really? Just because he's not taking a stance? He's just being Fallon. He never says anything that would piss off a current or potential guest (aside from a tame opening monologue). He's a much funnier Jay Leno. When did we need our late night hosts to be political pundits? Its nice to have variety. I don't think Fallon is perfect, but he does some funny shit with his guests. I like being able to watch clips the next day of Colbert, Oliver, and Fallon and get different laughs from each one.
9/29/2016 11:42:01 AM
He doesn't have to be a political pundit. But he doesn't have to have Donald Trump as a guest, either. If you're not going to call a politician (any politician) on their policies and/or behavior, don't have them on a talk show.
9/29/2016 3:28:21 PM
I don't remember all this outrage when SNL let him host the damn show I suspect it's because our resident hipster community doesn't like Fallon to begin with, but does like SNL.
9/29/2016 3:47:45 PM
there was plenty of backlash when he hosted SNL

Let's not talk about Jimmy Fucking Fallon in this thread.

Colbert has the better show, but The Roots murder Colbert's band. The more important point is, where has John Stewart been? There was a hint of some HBO thing, but no pop. We need his voice.
7/3/2018 1:07:34 AM
the Roots murder nearly every band that is currently in existence
7/3/2018 1:51:37 AM
Caught the monologue last night...the first I'd seen in a very long time. The entire thing was just a stance against Trump, and it wasn't funny at all. I get it, you don't like the POTUS. But you're sacrificing funny for politics. I agreed with everything he said, btw, which was mostly coverage of his support of Saudis and the Ivanka email thing, but make it funny at least.Letterman was able to be political and maybe, sometimes, on the off-occasion, funny, and he didn't devote his entire monologue to politics. Same with Leno and Ferguson.Maybe last night was just an exception to the norm, but for some reason I doubt it.Bring back John Stewart.[Edited on November 21, 2018 at 11:11 AM. Reason : asdf]

^^^ and yet last week he pulled in 700k more viewers a night than Fallon or Kimmel, and averaging 1.2m more a night over the course of the season.[Edited on November 21, 2018 at 1:52 PM. Reason : e]

If you think Colbert's monologue is too Trump-centric, you'd love Seth Myers.
11/22/2018 9:01:54 PM
monologues are also the weakest part of late night shows
11/22/2018 9:20:10 PM
coincidentally, so is Seth Meyers
