^ CNN reported Reid said he'd still run for Senate Minority Leader. I have to imagine Democratic senators rally behind someone to oust Reid.

It means that Obama will suck up to Republicans. Like the last 6 years.

Warner hangs on in Virginia. Now up 13000 votes with 99% in.

The Latino on CNN's analyst panel said the following:"Charlie Crist has been on the ballot under 3 different party labels and I have voted against him every single time...he is like Jason from Friday the 13th, he keeps coming back."One thing I will say about Boehner and McConnell if they both win House Speaker and Senate Majority Leader again. With the larger margins they have, it gives them more room to do legislation they want and not have to cowtow to more extreme members in their caucus. Some Republican caucus members wanted Boehner gone before Erik Cantor lost his primary. If he has a larger majority in the House, it increases the number of people that caucus rebels need to boss around the legislation.[Edited on November 5, 2014 at 12:21 AM. Reason : .]

buncha stuff on my facebook newsfeed is "rawr the next 2 years are gonna suck" i'm like "no, it's not gonna be much different"
11/5/2014 12:42:46 AM
The republican party is about to implode over the next 2 years. They will eat each other up while trying to win the presidential nomination (looking at you, Cruz) and therefor fail to accomplish anything despite controlling both houses.I hate the situation of a lame duck president with a hostile congress, but I feel like this is setting up a 2016 democrat landslide and an easy win for Hilary.
11/5/2014 1:52:27 AM
I hope the GOP takes the lesson that when it runs candidates that at least try to appeal to moderates, it will win; if this renewed focus on electability (like not pandering to the Teabagger fundies even during the general) prevails in 2016, they just might hold on to that Senate majority and win the Presidency.Although I fully intend to vote for the Democratic candidate, I'd be okay with another moderate Republican President, or maybe I'm just viewing Bush the Elder through a nostalgia filter.

^ Presidents McCain and Romney agree with your political analysis.

Haha. You have leaflets scattered throughout Alabama districts telling would-be voters that if they vote Republican they'll be bringing back the klan. But the headline here is that Republicans won because of a negative campaign against Obama? That's funny. All you can do is laugh.

My smallest of silver linings: Tim Moffitt lost in his run for NC House!!! Guy was expected to be the next speaker, was responsible for the asheville water fiasco, ALEC legislator of the year recently, etc. BYE!!!!

you will read this in my voice

The silver lining is that the GOP now controls both houses of congress, and can't blame anyone but themselves when nothing gets done. These guys can't govern, they've proven it for the last the 4 years, and giving them more control isn't going to change that. What are they going to do? Repeal Medicaid? Pass the Ryan budget? Good luck in 2016.
11/5/2014 9:25:09 AM
thats sillyinstead of blaming senate democrats and obama they can just blame obama
11/5/2014 9:58:27 AM
They can blame Obama for vetoing their efforts to fix harm the country.

GG North Carolina for also allowing polluters (and others) to simply buy judges and skip jury accountability!

I wish polluter was an actual job title.

A personal silver lining is that now I don't have to worry about Harry Reid or the Maryland governor changing the Redskins name.
11/5/2014 11:06:29 AM
I think you're overestimating the ability of republicans to get legislation to the President's desk. Again, these guys don't know how to govern. Their ACA alternative was 10 pages long. Their platform the last 6 years has been no to everything Obama wants, but now they are going to have to show us what they want, and get it to the President's desk. Like I said, good luck.My personal feelings on this election: disappointment, but it's not like it was a surprise. The gubernatorial results bugged more than the Senate, that should not have happened. Fuck midterms.[Edited on November 5, 2014 at 11:20 AM. Reason : :]

Reince is already talking about Keystone. I think we'll see a bunch of corporatist legislation get pushed through, while ignoring the deeper problems (inequality, fixing ACA, education loan debt).
11/5/2014 11:21:44 AM
Let's not forget that Reid has been sitting on a stack of legislation for years. They can start by going through all that legislation and working on it. I doubt they're just going to go through and send it all to the president, because it was written for a Democtratic senate. They'll probably go through, take each piece of legislation, make it so conservative that nobody wants it, then send it to the president's desk for a veto.sighAnybody who thinks anything is going to get done in Washington now is delusional. Cruz and his ilk are going to fight against Boehner and McConnell just as hard as Boehner and McConnell fought Reid and Pelosi. It is still going to be a gridlock.
11/5/2014 11:25:01 AM
keystone will happen first im sure; will be interesting to see what obama does with it

Mmmmm Alberta Tar Sands. I look forward to all of the jobs it will produce to clean up the highly toxic and difficult to manage spills!

I really wish that with Reid out of power they would reopen Yucca Mountain and finally get the fucking nuclear waste out of the pools and open storage in parking lots and pits around the country. Reid has been blocking that for years and had the power to as Senate Majority leader. That would be some progress I would approve.

^^its difficult for me to imagine why anyone would cast a vote for someone like:Scott Walker - by many accounts a criminal, has set WI up for a projected $1 billion dollar budget deficitRick Scott - also a criminal, has been deeply unpopular for a while (I thought)Sam Brownback - also set his state up for a several hundred million dollar budget shortfall, state credit rating was recently downgraded, etcIn other news, all ma liberal blogs are suggesting Ted Cruz is gonna make a run for majority leader. I'm not sure if that's legit, but is a damn scary thought!!!
