This guy seems pretty decent [seriously]
10/29/2014 9:39:52 PM
Yeah I don't know much about him, but a few months ago (maybe when his album came out?) a bunch of folks on twitter were talking about him a lot. Just listening to a few songs on youtube, seems pretty good[Edited on October 29, 2014 at 9:41 PM. Reason : add a note]
10/29/2014 9:40:57 PM
Yeah he's pretty good. Opening for Jason Isbell in November.
10/29/2014 9:47:36 PM
Sturgill Simpson should not be in this thread
10/30/2014 9:45:00 AM
^ is there a thread for good country from the last 5 years?[Edited on October 30, 2014 at 10:19 AM. Reason : I didn't know Ryan Gosling played bass...]
10/30/2014 10:18:12 AM
I was recently made to listen to both Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson. If more popular country music sounded like that, I might actually listen to country stations when flipping through in the car. Best "modern" country I've heard in a while.
10/30/2014 10:37:03 AM
There is so much music like that out there, it's just not on the radio here
10/30/2014 10:39:30 AM
Sturgill is opening for Isbell next week at the DPAC. I'll be in attendance. Cory Branan, Sturgill Simpson, Justin Townes Earle, Hayes Carll, etc these are all good examples of artists trying to keep the original sound of country music alive today.
10/30/2014 10:41:19 AM
^I'll be there too
10/30/2014 11:29:49 AM
i can't understand a word that guy is saying

I saw that same show in Rocky Mount, VA the night before. BJ is sober now. Good for him.Last time I saw turnpike troubadours, the same could not be said for evan felker. He was completely out of it.

At least brantley gilbert writes his own stuff.

Terrible "Small Town Throwdown" By Brantley Gilbert, Justin Moore, Thomas Rhetthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbE3TUegz3s

Everything wrong with country today is showcased in that one song.
11/3/2014 8:05:19 PM
That song is absolute trash. And I mentioned earlier in the thread that, of some of the newer artists, I kinda like Justin Moore. But if this song is any indication of the type of music he'll make in the future, I'll take that statement back
11/3/2014 8:23:43 PM
A lot of bad shit on CMAs.
11/5/2014 10:16:14 PM
i did find the opening bit by carrie and brad to be pretty hilarious
11/6/2014 6:38:03 AM
I really liked the new (old) song by The Band Perry...I think they're definitely a different breed of artist than what we're talking about in this thread. They really did a good job with Gentle On My Mind.I also liked Jennifer Nettles' bit with the Doobie Brothers.[Edited on November 6, 2014 at 8:10 AM. Reason : qeq]

I think we gave Jason Aldean a blanket "he's shitty country" nod a few pages back.

Pretty sure the new Luke Bryan song "Kick The Dust Up" deserves to be on this list. It's awful.
6/17/2015 8:37:12 AM
I'm going to the Luke Bryan concert this September. My wife is a fan and I got her tickets for Mothers Day. I was like "You don't have to take me if you don't want to. I'll stay at home and watch the kids." I give her hell all of the time about her music. Country concerts are still enjoyable even if I hate the music.
6/17/2015 9:22:49 AM
I actually don't mind some of the bro-country stuff, but Luke Bryan probably produces the worst of the bro-country music. Each single he releases is either a decent traditional country song or one of the worst bro-country songs of the year. Not much middle-ground with him.
6/17/2015 10:13:22 AM
Traditional? There isn't shit about Luke Bryan that is traditional. Jason Aldean? I can see some of his older stuff being considered traditional.Luke Bryan and Chase Rice and just plain awful.
6/17/2015 1:24:48 PM
this thread should only have FGL songs posted in it.
6/17/2015 1:35:13 PM
Haha, I'd say early Luke Bryan is more traditional than most of what Jason Aldean has put out."We Rode In Trucks", "Tacklebox", "You Make Me Want to", "Drink a Beer", "Play It Again", "Do I", all of those are solid more traditional songs that I wouldn't lump into bro-country. There are more but those were the first that came to mind. I also give him credit for "Good Directions" by Billy Currington since he wrote that one too.But for each of those songs you have one of his other terrible songs. "That's My Kind Of Night", "Country Girl", "Kick The Dust Up", etc.

GTFO you luke bryan loving asshole.
