OMG SPEALLYNG MISTAQUE!!!
9/30/2014 6:40:15 PM
I haven't heard anything about mosquitoes spreading it. I guess they can't.
9/30/2014 7:45:18 PM
if they could dont you think africa would already be royally fucked?

OK, everybody, calm down, the expert is here. Now, first things first: you're definitely all going to die. I'd go ahead and liquidate all your assets now so that you can enjoy what precious time you have left. I've heard good things about heroin. Try that. And no, mosquitoes do not spread ebola. It does not survive very well outside of the human body, though it could be transmitted through needle sticks. Generally, though, you have to come in direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected and symptomatic person.
10/1/2014 4:50:41 AM
i heard meat transmits it... especially rabbit meat.
10/1/2014 8:12:19 AM
Does bodily fluids include spit, sweat, and snot ? How much of each, for how long, and for how long after it leaves the other person?
10/1/2014 12:36:52 PM
You forgot the last s...semen
10/1/2014 12:48:39 PM
it's less transmittable than the flu or most colds
10/1/2014 12:49:22 PM
I just saw someone post an article on fb about the guy in Texas and commented "Dumbass Obama administration. Thanks alot!!!!"[Edited on October 1, 2014 at 1:45 PM. Reason : ]

I know I'm perfectly safe.... But it is weird knowing that I live about a mile away from the NIH where they are treating Ebola patient. And the same subway line is connecting the NIH and my crib, separated by like 1 stop.If I catch anything, I'm going to go cough on ↑[Edited on October 1, 2014 at 1:44 PM. Reason : h]

the US isnt nearly dirty or stupid enough for this to spread readilyi mean if you read Grumpy's thread these are people that think you can craft evil charms from stolen poo
10/1/2014 6:59:55 PM
You can so craft evil charms from stolen poo. I put a voodoo spell on dtownral the other day using similar methods. On an unrelated note, I think that enterovirus d68 is going to be a larger public concern for parents of small children and teens with asthma. In about 10 cases so far, it has exhibited symptoms similar to polio, with lower extremity paralysis.

A lot of Americans, including this one. The point being that we can't judge a society by quirks of its religious beliefs, since all societies have them and all of them, upon close inspection, have some serious quirks. If aliens landed, they would not think Beninese beliefs were all that remarkable.
10/2/2014 10:33:08 AM
lol, can't let a compliment from disco_stu go unqualified, eh?No, worries. Admitting your crazy beliefs are no less crazy than poo charms is the first step.
10/2/2014 11:12:34 AM
the US isnt dirty or silly enough for this to spread readily (sorry grumpy i love your thread and your beninese)

Reuters is reporting up to 80 people had contact with this guy.http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/02/health-ebola-usa-exposure-idUSL2N0RX0K820141002They don't say when in his progression they had contact.
10/2/2014 2:44:40 PM
i've heard reports the guy was vomiting profusely outside of his residence and in the hospital... this could get bad (or it might not)
10/2/2014 4:04:11 PM
We also don't know if we're getting all the facts from the CDC and the media.

^^^^And a couple of guys with a hose and a broom cleaned it up, just wearing regular clothes. Not even sure they used cleaning agents. I don't know why, but I have a feeling that at least one other person in America is going to contract it.
10/2/2014 7:22:15 PM
Isn't it possible that people who want to do this country harm - meaning those that would give their life to be a martyr, might somehow obtain the means to infect themselves and then make their way here?Kind of a stretch, but all it would take would be one person with a lot of will, and once they got here, it wouldn't be hard to infect people if they were trying to do it on purpose.
10/2/2014 7:33:25 PM
Considering You can get it from brief direct contact with spit and sweat, initial symptoms just seem like a flu, the primary response is to be quarantined to see if you die, and a million cases are predicted by January, I don't see the rationale for reports that there's nothing to worry about.I foresee some Americans being afraid of government quarantine and either hiding, or being in denial about having it. They may not even come forward if they've been in contact with this guy. I guess we'll know in about 20 days if anyone get infected. But who's the next carrier, or the next, to land on American soil with it.

A little fear monger y but NY times is reporting some supposed missteps made.Cleaning companies aren't willing to be around Ebola patients: http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/10/03/us/dallas-ebola-case-thomas-duncan-contacts.html?referrer=It's practically guaranteed though that until this gets under control in Africa, there is going to be another case here in the United States, and other first world countries.[Edited on October 2, 2014 at 9:31 PM. I think it's childish to not worry a little. Here in America we're fat dumb and happy. That happiness hangs on by a thread though. One small interruption to peoples' way of life and they'll be fat, dumb, but not so happy, and trouble could ensue. Sure SARS and swine flu turned out to be a flop compared to the hype, but I'm sure Americans in the turn of the 20th century thought that particular flu wasn't going to be too bad in its earlier stages. Until everybody died.
10/2/2014 9:30:26 PM
http://www.bustle.com/articles/37816-ebola-vs-sars-which-outbreak-was-worseThis article is a month out of date already, and their goal was to downplay Ebola, but if you use updated infection numbers and compare Ebolas death rate, it seem's we should be worrying more than we are lead to believe. Swine flu killed thousands of people, mostly the elderly.Ebola is much less infectious (supposedly) but has a much higher death rate. If past flus are a guide, we could be looking at hundreds or thousands of deaths.

http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-fg-nbc-freelancer-contracts-ebola-20141002-story.htmlA cameraman in Africa contracted ebola. Ostensibly, he's not an aide worker and shouldn't have been so close to sick people. I wonder how he got it. I would also like is all to take a moment and remember the history of Liberia and how it came to be...
10/2/2014 11:02:26 PM
The Country Director here was telling us that the Dallas guy showed up at the hospital, told them he'd just come back from Liberia, and was sent home. Don't know if it's true or not, but damn.I know a few volunteers who have gone back home recently, and when any of them goes to the doctor for anything, they just mention that they were in West Africa and they get moved to the front of the line. So most places act out of an abundance of caution, but maybe not Texas.I wouldn't be surprised if this guy had infected another person. I would be surprised if it were more than one. And there are probably going to be a couple more people who got it in Africa and who will start showing symptoms in America.

^ if they aren't symptomatic, shouldn't really matter...
10/3/2014 11:03:23 AM
I am about 7 miles from the hospital where the ebola is located. If I don't make it I would like to leave this song in my memory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_WOR22-SnYRemember, don't touch your friends. It's dangerous.
10/3/2014 11:19:33 AM
http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/03/health/ebola-us/So he did go to the hospital and was given antibiotics ( practically a placebo) then 2 days later got more ill which is when they took him seriously. He was symptomatic for 2 days, crammed in an apartment with 4 other people. It would be interesting if the reason he was turned away was insurance. It would be an indictment of ACA in that it didn't go far enough...
10/3/2014 11:24:40 AM
yeah, this is about ACAif the reports are right (that he was given antibiotics for a suspected cold virus), someone needs to go talk to that doctor that's another entirely separate problem. [Edited on October 3, 2014 at 12:38 PM. Reason : .]
