Yeah the average homicide detective salary for NYC is only like ~88k.

-But there's a higher end of 110. With a 110-120k salary you could afford something larger than a 500 sqft studio in NYC especially if you didn't have a car payment or insurance.

this guy is a few years away from fighting crime with a guy dressed as a bat with his underwear over his tights and you're all mad about his big apartment.

^People should stop using that argument for comic book movies/tv shows. If the story sets up parameters for what is "normal" in that universe, then breaks those parameters it pulls you out of the story. You have no setting because it might as well be a dream where random shit happens.

By your logic, they could just give Gordon a banana to put in his holster instead of a gun and the writers could just say "this guy is a few years away from fighting crime with a guy dressed as a bat with his underwear over his tights and you're all mad about his banana gun"

So when/where were the parameters of this never before told Commissioner Gordon origin story set up?

also, let's go ahead and be clear that this is Barbara Kean's apartment and not Gordon's.

Quote :
"Can you speak more about the different time periods that inspired your sets? For instance, Barbara Kean’s apartment is this ultra-modern penthouse, while the GCHQ Bullpen feels like it’s out of an old murder mystery.

It’s interesting that you say this, because really, Barbara’s apartment and the Bullpen stand in contrast to each other for a very specific reason. Jim Gordon lives between those two places. And Jim Gordon’s life, where he fights crime and stands for good, is in the middle of a dark, chaotic, corrupt old world that is very hard for him to fight. It’s established. It’s been there forever. How is this one man going to change it all?

Barbara’s apartment, on the other hand, here’s a place where Jim Gordon goes that’s high above the city, and beautiful. It’s where he can, for a little while, escape from the fight that he’s carrying on deep in the city below with the woman he loves. So we wanted on Barbara’s apartment to make a place that looked modern, fresh and airy, but was clearly above the city – a woman’s space that just felt good for a man to be in.

I guess I did notice that contrast. It does make a lot of sense. You never really see her outside the apartment either.

These are two separate issues that you have to accept for suspension of disbelief.

For the first one, you have to accept that in the world of Gotham, superheroes exist.

For the second one, you have to accept that in the world of Gotham, money is basically meaningless.

Camren Bicondova (Cat Woman) and I have the same birthday (May 22nd)!!! When I turn 30, she turns 18, it was meant to be.

However I'm not sure how she is going to feel about me making her dress up like Cat Woman everyday.

My biggest issue with the latest episode was when they shot the balloon. They appeared to be 30-40 feet in the air before he shot it, and then when they "fell" onto the van it looked like they felt about 5 feet. They didn't even cave in the roof of the van. Seemed horribly done.

Just finishing up the pilot. Bullock is the best character in this show.

All the villain intros they did were okay with the exception of Ivy. That was way too forced.

Ah yeah good point about the balloon thing, I thought the same thing when I saw it but completely forgot about it. They were at least 3 or 4 stories high at that point, Gordon should have a few broken bones.

Haha, I like the bodies falling back to ground from the weather balloons.

How exactly did they do that? Did they just shoot a full 22 episode season originally with plans to make the second half just a second season if needed?

A lot of times shows like this are only shooting a month or so ahead of the tv schedule. So a full season order comes early enough so that production isn't halted or delayed and story lines have a chance to be extended or edited for the additional episode order. I feel like for a show like this this just means more filler episodes. But like we've said, we're a long way from Batman so isn't it all just filler? ^_^

"Earlier today, FOX gave "Gotham" a full-season order — which is something Kevin Reilly said he wouldn't do (he expected the season to max out at 15 or 16 episodes), and something the creative team has suggested they didn't want. Reilly no longer has any say in the matter, and I suppose Bruno Heller and company will have to figure out how to fill six extra episodes in the back half of the season.

In other words the ratings and buzz are projected to bring more money in to the TV execs so they'll force the story to be written accordingly.

Since when does Jim Gordon fight like Batman? Also why is Penguin so damn skinny? He is supposed to be a fat ass and it is starting to bother me...

Where the hell was Cat Woman, I missed her this week Can't her and Wayne have a kiddie relationship to keep her in the show every episode? Haha, I am telling yall, when that girl is like 18-21, she is going to be insanely hot. Even if this show bombs, everyone will know who she is now and it will get her placed in future things, just like other new characters (Penguin for example).

This is the only show I can be 4 episodes deep in and still not know if I like it yet. This sort of reminds me of how I felt towards The Strain and in the end I didn't care for it, but for the right person I would recommend it.

the "Kat" girl looks like a young michelle pfeiffer. they did that on purpose. what they aren't doing on purpose is trying to make this a Tim Burton Batman. So the Penguin can be skinny especially in his youth. Believe it or not people get fat over time. this is trying to be it's on story however stealing a lot from Burton Batman. lol

I've really enjoyed watching this show far. I actually look forward to it each week. Yeah it has its moments but I like the way they are slowly introducing the villains and showing where they came from. I really like the penguin storyline.

Penguin is by far the best actor on the show. Gordon is doing pretty well too. I hate Alfred. Fish Mooney's character absolutely annoys the shit out of me, though acting-wise Jada Smith is doing a good job. The fact that Gordon and his fat partner go into an office and somehow lose the assassin was asinine to me. It's like amateur hour. I am holding out hope for more scenes with Bruce as I believe he has the potential to give Penguin a run for his money in terms of a performance.

Gordon and Penguin are both young. That is why Gordon can fight like that. I'd assume that as a policeman he'd have some kind of hand to hand combat training. As for the Penguin being skinny -- he's got like 20 years to rise to power and get fat.

He's been fine in the show, but every time I see Bruce I just keep picturing the kid as the character he played in "Touch" where he didn't talk, haha. Keep waiting for Keifer to bust in looking for his son.

so a couple theories, one very plausible and the other more bit out there:

-Penguin arranged to kill the councilmen (not shocking)
-Fish Mooney directly influences whoever becomes Joker (feel like she should become some other name we don't know yet, her theatrical ways for killing people and having the two girls fight one another to work for her are very Joker-ish)

I'd considered it. Something like Fish reaches a point where no one accepts her as leader of the criminal world, she attributes it to being a black woman, so she goes nuts and decides to get a sex change and go white-face.

I'm pleased with the way they introduced Zsasz. This show is getting better in my opinion. One thing though that kind of made me lol -- how did Penguin get onto Falcone's estate at the end when he went to go check on the chickens? It seems like only him and Falcone are aware that he is secretly working for Falcone so any of Falcone's guards would have seen him coming from a mile away. He's not exactly stealthy.

^ or the chick Falcone is dating

it was a great swerve at the end with Penguin/Falcone, you don't see it coming but after you see it things do make sense

also, did anyone else love the fact Zsasz's ringtone was Funkytown?

I've changed my guess on Fish. I think at the end of the season, Penguin kills her himself.

Well the show has done a 180 in the last 2 episodes vs. all the others, we may actually have a semi-intelligent plot behind all the absolute shit of the first 5 episodes.
