That sounds dumb. Inshore fishing is a lot different than bass fishing. Sometimes the bite only lasts an hour or less. Why waste time on unproductive baits or baits that don't really fit the current pattern just so you can say you caught a fish on every random bait in a box?

I don't care for fishing personally, but I just saw this video. It's the Steve-O approach to YouTube education:

^,^^ Nice trout!!

I'm pretty disappointed in my 2014 season. Set a goal of 30 days on the water this year, but only got to 18. I worked the upper Neuse pretty hard trying to figure out how to get a Largemouth to hit a topwater fly (bass bug), and was never successful, I learned a few things in the process though. Already looking forward to next year.

2014 is definitely a down year fishing wise for me. Caught way more fish in 2013.

Anyone know how to catch bass in a small pond this time of year?

I have a 2 acre pond, and in the spring time had TONS of catching going down. Could catch bass by the cooler load if I wanted to, with simple topwater lures in the shallow banks.

Once summer kicked in, and the spawning was over, I couldn't catch a thing, and haven't caught any bass (except for one with a real worm while crappy fishing - likely just a lucky catch).

Whats the deal?

For reference, My pond has a deep area of 10 feet on one corner (sorta a rounded rectangle shaped pond) near the damn and a shallow side at the opposite end where its mostly 3 feet deep everywhere.

my $0.02

They are probably moving away from the banks and heading to deeper water during the summer once water temps start to get high. There are two things to try, first you need to fish some kind of sinking lure and then fish a bunch of different depths where you think they might be hanging out (from the bottom of the pond to some more medium depths). The other possibility is that they are confining their feeding to the mornings or evenings during the summer, so you should try your usual methods during those parts of the day (if that's not when you usually fish).

Do you notice a taste/texture difference between a fresh trout and a store bought trout?

^^absolutely. Even the freshest fish market sea trout sat in a net overnight, sat in the boat/truck for a day, etc. My fish is way fresher and you can tell it when you taste it.

^no, I don't really eat that much fish. I give plenty to neighbors.

30 inch striper from today. It was cold and wet, but that one made it worth it.

^^nice, what bait did you use to catch that striper? I've never caught one before. I've been pretty much fishing for sheephead this past month. Got 4 on Tuesday.

The Jon Boat Bass Club of NC will be kicking off its 2015 fishing season in February 2015. We are a group of fishermen who fish bass tournaments from small boats with electric motors. Low cost. Big fun. Our club is made up of young, old, men, women, kids, and all around good people. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, shoot us an email with your contact info and we'll get you the info you need to start fishing. We fish one tourney per month on small local waters, and have prizes in excess of $5000 by season's end. Thanks for your time.

Pm for details I do these tournaments and bfls and the all electric adds whole new element to tournament bass fishing, also have room for a few non boaters I beleive.

dang I didn't post at all this year in this thread.
I'll just post some of the highlights from this year...

Lesson learned, never clean fish while intoxicated...

I didn't get to do as much fishing as I had wanted this year. With my car being broken down most of summer it made it very hard for me to go out fishing in my free time.

Hopefully next summer!

Oh yeah, and I love this picture of me casting out...

Couple nice stripers today. Tough conditions. Wanted to catch a trout downriver, but all the rain has the water clouded up.

caught 10 stripers today. 5 small ones and 5 big boys. don't have a pic of the biggest one. i try not to net these fish because they're catch and release only anyway, so i was trying to get my lip gripper on him and the hooks pulled. he was over 30 inches. easily the biggest one i've caught from the cape fear.

yeah, i'm fishing near downtown wilmington. never been to lake gaston. never caught a landlocked striper, either.

these are easily kayak-accessible. you should come down and give it a try. you can catch them in May and June too, if you're worried about hypothermia and such.

No I'm not worried, I was down in New Bern last week catching stripers but I think you can keep a wider range of lengths from Gaston compared to inshore

6 really nice stripers yesterday. That front shut them down today. Lost one decent fish and boated another. I could see the fish right there on the sonar, but they refused to bite.

The bass expo is this up coming weekend. Come by and spend your money helping the tackle shops. The JBBC will have a booth this year and is seeking memberships, so If you enjoy bass fishing with out the drama and the bull shit then this is the club you have been looking for.

Any new member who pays their membership dues for 2015 at the fishing expo this weekend will receive an exclusive raffle ticket for the brand new Minn Kota trolling motor and the Plano tackle system. The only tickets given out will be for new member sign-ups at the show, so the odds of winning are pretty good!

see ya'll there
