Preferably not a steakhouse since the wife isn't too keen on red meat. That said, i was looking at Daniel and the gramercy tavern but they are booked solid

Arturo's is really good, and the Dominique Ansel bakery is really close by, so you can get a cronut if you're lucky

Have you looked on Opentable? That might be your best starting spot since you can see what's actually available

I don't frequent the super expensive places, but I can make a couple comments on some of the places that I see with availability on Opentable:

21 Club - I despise that it's jacket required, but it's an institution and the food is generally very, very good
Morimoto - not really midtown, 16th st, but I've been and loved the food...did the tasting menu that included a great surf and turf dish
Nobu - haven't been, but I hear nothing but total raving from people about how insanely good it is. I always ask how a piece of sushi can be so good and never seem to be able to understand. It's expensive, but from what I hear it's the best piece of fish you'll ever put in your mouth
Le Cirque - never been there, but it seems to be one of the places to go when you want a special dinner. French and very expensive I think
Quality Meats - Haven't been here either, but it's relatively new and I've been hearing very good things about it. My buddy said it's extremely good

Personally, if I were to pick a place to eat for something special I would probably try Nobu or Quality Meats...just based on what I've been hearing

Arturo's is awesome! Well, their pizza. Can't vouch for anything else there, as I haven't had anything else.

I wouldn't go out of my way for pizza, pretty much anywhere you get a slice is going to be pretty good.

The Halal Guys on Ave of the Americas has some pretty famous gyros and they are so big and packed with actual lamb meat for dirt cheap I don't know how they make any money.

The High Line in Chelsea is a must see (especially at night).

Washington Square Park if you've never been and then bar hop the East Village after.

Pomme Frites, as others have mentioned is awesome.

Depending on what day you go, Union Square market is really good and there's a brewery and a Thai fusion place right by there that are both great.

Surf Bar in Brooklyn is one of the more unique places I've ever been. Barcade is cool too but they have them in other cities.

If you're like me and really appreciate Belgian beer and food (moules frites, steak tartar, etc.) go to BXL Cafe.

BTTT. Flying out of RDU tomorrow at 6:20 am for a conference in Newark that doesn't start until Monday and I have never been to NYC before. Planning to drop my shit at the hotel and then catch the PATH to WTC. After that I am planning to walk down end of Manhattan to East River and catch ferry across to Brooklyn. From there I plan to walk across Brooklyn Bridge, probably snag some lunch in Chinatown and then catch a subway up towards Central Park. Maybe walk down towards 30 Rock, Times Square, etc. Eventually hop the PATH bus back to WTC, hopefully the crowds will be down from morning memorial ceremonies so might check that out for a bit. Then go across to The Exchange to get some evening photos of the skyline with the lights on for the Twin Towers and then back to the hotel in Newark. Conference runs two full days and then late flight back home.

Thoughts or suggestions on this plan? Suggestions for food in this thread still valid? Don't want to sit down, just want something quick to eat.

if you don't have time to get to smorgasburg in williamsburg(its not on your PATH), you should definitely go to the one in the seaport district on fulton street. it is one of the oldest, more forgotten parts of manhattan and the smorgasburg vendors are money.

you should also be sure to walk around soho when you go to chinatown. dominique ansel bakery is a must go spot for unique treats you wont find anywhere else
