My original idea was the worst or most boring state to live in.

Although it could also be what state is the biggest drain and contributes the least to our nation.

It's hard to argue against Indiana being worthless. It's flat, windy, and boring. Indianapolis 500?

South Dakota has Badlands N.P. it's got some good scenery at least.

OP does need to explain his definition of worthless.

For some reason I had a 30min convo on this topic a few weeks ago.

No one could think of anything decent about Indiana outside of sports related stuff.

well they have a point. texas is a pretty important part of the country.

I'm surprised NC is as low as it is... although i guess there are a lot of counties with high poverty rates and living in the triangle isn't indicative of the state as a whole.

NC can probably attribute their low percentage to the amount of assholes that moved here, but still drone on about how fucking great where they're from is. I'm looking at you western NY/PA.

I think that map is fairly accurate except for SC being 5% better than NC. Explanation needed there.

I was surprised to see SC rated higher myself than I realized it is probably full of hyper prideful country bumpkins who probably haven't left their own county in 5 years.

^Well we are talking about who we are going to vote off of the island here. The desert states out west aren't as pretty as everything east of them. It is on my bucket list to go to the International Balloon Fiesta though.

Your definition of beautiful scenery is different from everybody else. I have probably spent about 1 month of my lifetime in New Mexico alltogether. The red rocks and deserts are beautiful in a lot of places. I would rather wake up to that everyday than a lot of other landscapes we have in America.

^^But I love the thick forests of the North, the beautiful coastlines along our oceans, and the open prairies filled with crops that cover the midwest. The sand and red clay in the desert is just ok.

^That's a pretty good choice too. I have family that lives there. I don't think they are staying when my uncle retires. His job has taken him to Iowa (from there), Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, and Ohio through the years. It sounds like Ohio is their least favorite place out of all of them.

My family is from RI. It's no different from the rest of New England and Providence is a cool city. You have Brown, plus RI School of Design. There's lots of cool architecture, a nice downtown riverwalk and mall, and it's much more affordable than Boston. There's also beaches and good diving and fishing if you don't mind cold weather. Lobsters, crabs, clams, and other shellfish are plentiful. Newport is a good place to take friends to impress them with the mansions and resorts. Not my fault no one here has bothered to learn about it.

If you get bored, the commuter train for Boston runs to Providence. You can be downtown for a Red Sox game in an hour. The Bruins and Sox have their highest minor league teams in Providence as well.

I'm sure the low satisfaction is largely because of the unemployment level. It was very dependent on manufacturing jobs in areas like textiles, as well as cyclical industries like fishing. Bad times can be quite bad.

Famous figures: Motherfucking HP Lovecraft. Enough said.

Does Kansas or the Dakotas offer any of that?

I have to say, the southwest isn't bad, but the Northeast is way more beautiful. The views of the forests turning colors is way nicer than all of the red rock in Utah and New Mexico. The rock shapes are cool though.

You almost could not be more wrong. So much of the Northeast's natural beauty has been ruined by overdevelopment and urbanization. I mean, there are still beautiful parts like Maine and most of New Hampshire and Vermont, but so much of the Northeast is just awful looking now. Weigh the good against the bad and it's nowhere near as pretty as the Southeast.
