I would like to know the reason every road in raleigh has like 40 man holes per 1/4 mile. Does each utility get to cut their own? Seems silly to have so many per mile, but maybe there's a good reason.

The last time cops in Charlotte made a huge street racing bust they just browsed some UNCC message board full of BlackJesui and ended up confiscating all their cars. Most got crushed but a couple got pressed into service.Three of them were clocked going over 140 on I-485.Now, instead of taking this seriously, even though one known cop is ITT, BlackJesus will respond with something like this:"mane aint no FUZZ gonna catch mah fly G8"or"pfffffff ONLY 140?! MAIH pawn-tee-ack does that in THIRDdddd lololol"or"charlotte? LOL. you live in CHARLOTTE? i gots too much franklens for chawlotte"etc

y0willy0This dude is truly pathetic, and poor. I've stopped responding to his endless attempts at trolling. First he was trolling because supposedly I should be ashamed of my Pontiac, then he decided to make racist statements, and now he's on the high road attempting to stop me from supposedly breaking multiple traffic laws. Its hilarious how your trolling changed when no one in The Garage, Sports Talk, or Chit Chat decided to get on your side.Fucking failure.
4/6/2014 3:47:39 PM
actually several people have also ridiculed your car, but thats beside the point.lets analyze "fucking failure" from a more general POV, and forget your car for a moment.i submit this as evidence:Restricted: "I would like to meet for a prearranged speed competition. Give me a date and time, thanks!"BlackJesus: "^^^What do you drive? What have you done to it?"youre so stupid its mind boggling, but you should totally take him up on his offer.
4/7/2014 12:52:01 PM
YAWN when you have something useful to say inbox me. Otherwise I'm not responding to anything you say. Pathetic racist troll. I'm sure you feel real tough behind the keyboard. If only you'd crack a black joke where I could beat that ass. But you're a punk bitch keyboard warrior.
4/7/2014 1:06:43 PM
y0willy0,you are acting very unhinged lately; it's a repeated pattern for you and you should talk to someone about your anger problems. short of that, please respectfully limit your trolling to one or two threads (or at least to one section).
4/7/2014 1:12:52 PM
you have a chance to beat dat ass.restricted is a good friend of mine and id love to see your "street race."i would drop the racist line though however unless you go on a similar tangent everytime someone here makes a fried chicken or watermelon joke.thats really the caliber of racism we are talking here."punk bitch keyboard warrior" is the most ironic thing ive read on TWW in awhile since thats exactly what you are and the fundamental reason i called you out all your car related horseshit.but again, just make arrangements with Restricted and we will call it a day.dtownral youre the last ally he wants on this site.[Edited on April 7, 2014 at 1:18 PM. ben94gt There seemed to be a ton of standing water on 40 east/west near aviation. Any plans to fix this. I saw what looked like a old honda half off the road, down an embankment.

^^changing to a dedicated turn signal with two left lanes will likely decrease the total stop time for the north south traffic. The light is pretty long in the am, but is still usually not enough.

to finish up the page 1 questions: the 421-leland sections of 140 is starting construction soon and should be finished around late 2016 timefreame. it should significantly help the battleship area congestion as a lot of the people going to the leland area and the upscale subdivisions on 17 in brunswick county will use 140 instead of the causeway. i would like to see the causeway widened, but with 140 nearing completion it probably wont happen.if you sent the car off of the end of 140 i imagine as long as it couldnt be traced to you it wouldnt be too big a deal.the number signs on the west side of asheville on 40 are used to measure fog density.and yes, diverging diamonds are here to stay. many more are being built now,40 @ s. saunders is being considered for a conversion. i think people will like them once they get used to them.[Edited on April 9, 2014 at 1:10 AM. sorry ive been lacking in the replies, its been a busy past few days.page 2: the manholes are due to all the utilities in the area: you have sewer, water, power, cable, phone, gas, etc.the light at chapanoke is most likely owned by ncdot, so ncdot division 5 traffiv services would be who to contact about that intersection. last time i looked at the signal list ncdot owned about 80% of the signalized intersections in raleigh.as far as i know there are no plans to fix any drainage issues on 40 at aviation, we had an issue like that on us 1 north at tryon that got fixed pretty recently though.

last post for the night: if you have any 40/440 fortify qustions i can answer those as welland for the love of god if you get in a wreck and are not injured move your car to the shoulder or nearest exit. it seems like common sense, but ive seen countless people just leave their fender bender in the travel lanes of 40, 440, etc and it causes MILES of backup, same thing if your car breaks down, ive literally watched a broken down car on 40 get hit by a tractor trailer going full speed. this sunday night, i wasnt working, but a corvette broke down on 40 east at hammond and got nailed by a tractor trailer, the guy in the corvette died.[Edited on April 9, 2014 at 1:18 AM. Why is the 40/440 thing going to take so long? And how come I don't see those 3 lane wide paver/ resurfacer things anymore? I feel like they were more common 10 years ago.[Edited on April 9, 2014 at 1:50 AM. Reason : ]

^I've heard a lot of it has to do with them digging up like 3 feet of road surface material. This isn't a quick repave job.
4/9/2014 11:14:13 AM
Why do they have to dig it all up? Why not grind the top off and put a new layer like they do in small towns?
4/9/2014 12:55:09 PM
4/9/2014 1:14:05 PM
^^ because it has all failed, they have been doing surface repair patches for years (that's why its so shitty). They have to remove it all and start all over

I don't know how some of you people miss the entire point of a massive road project when you seem to care so much about it.
4/9/2014 2:01:55 PM
when are they going to 4-lane highway 33 between Greenville and Chocowinity?
4/9/2014 2:02:41 PM
the better question is, when is I40 going 12 lane or stacked? AMIRITE?
4/9/2014 2:18:45 PM
4/9/2014 4:56:24 PM
Why are the lane ending signs in ft? Why not say lane ends in quarter mile etc.
4/9/2014 8:16:30 PM
I was told there wasn't going to be any math
4/9/2014 8:31:46 PM
4/9/2014 8:36:04 PM
why are there so many manhole covers/water meter covers in the exact path of car tires? a foot the the left or right would solve many uneven surfaces and dips/bumps. this seems like a simple thing. that way when repaving or the edges fail, there isn't a massive manhole cover to avoid.
4/10/2014 7:30:34 PM
Especially during repaving operations, where you have to dodge the edgenof a manhole that's been raised an inch, inch and a half.Probably poor planning. See the same thing with interstitial spaces in manufacturing facilities... Unless you specifically require routing of ducting, conduit, etc in a specific manner... Those fuckers treat space as first come first serve. Don't put that cable tray in the *logical* place, put it in the easiest place... It quickly becomes a nightmare.
4/10/2014 9:39:39 PM
The 40/440 rebuild is going to take 3 years because they have to completely remove the old concrete underneath the top layer of pavement, then lay the subsurface again and repave. The concrete below is basically crumbling due to a chemical reaction between ingredients used in the concrete mix when it was built in the early 80s. That and you cant do the whole road at one time, you have to reduce the roadway, do the lanes that no one is using, then put traffic on the new lanes and redo where they were before. Including both sides of the roadway the workzone totals 28.22 miles. The three lane wide pavers are mainly used when laying new concrete/asphalt during projects such as road widening, not so much for run of the mill repaving projects.I doubt you will ever see NC 33 4-laned between Grenville and Chocwinity. US 264 is already 4-lanes and runs parallel to NC 33. To connect between the 2 you can just use the new US 17 Bypass.Im not sure why the manhole covers are more often than not in the path of tires, I do find it annoying as well.
4/10/2014 10:20:12 PM
Why is Hwy 17 not four laned from VA to SC completely? Tourism is a big deal and there is no reason why a north-south coastal highway shouldn't be on the top of the planners list. I think all of div 1 and 3 is four laned, but there are still chunks of 2 lane throughout div 2. There are three big east-west corridors, but not a single coastal north-south connector. Also, my theory on water valves in travel paths...years of widening without putting money up to move utilities. The valves probably used to be in shoulder, then a suicide lane is planned without moving utilities...now that valve falls in the roadway.

Can you put in a request to have someone fix the intersection of Blue Ridge and Hillsborough St. The train track has these huge dips right after it. Causes everyone not in a truck to almost stop to keep from bottoming out.

4/11/2014 1:11:23 PM
^^ Highway Use Tax?It's a tax to use the road. Which the gov't assumes you will be doing when putting tags on a car. And like all taxes, they will keep being implemented until the people rise up and take a stand.

I've noticed some of the school buses in Cary will use their stopping powers (sign and lights) to stop traffic so they can merge across 3 lanes for a wide left turn.I've seen it several times, especially on Cary Parkway where a bus will stop at a neighborhood entrance, lights on, sign out, doors open and no kids get off, then while every is stopped they turn left across several lanes. How is this legal?[Edited on April 13, 2014 at 10:43 AM. Nutgrass, I think that traffic volumes through Division 2 havent warranted 4-laning until recently. There are contracts that are funded to finish the 4 laning through Jones County from the end of the new bypass down to the current 4 lane in Onslow; so thats not too far off. 4-laning from the end of the neuse river bridge section to chocowinity is schdeduled for the not too distant future, as is extending the new by-pass section west of new bern up to the vanceboro area, but that is much further off than widening the existing section north of New Bern. I believe the section from North of Washington up to the Williamston area is schduled for sometime in the next decade as well. So it should be completelely 4-laned within the next 15 years. Division 2 is just so rural that they have a harder time getting mobility projects funded versus maintenance.Black Jesus - railroad crossings are generally owned and maintained by the railroad companies. Norfolk Southern owns the line that runs through that intersection. You can talk to the wake county maintenance office though to suggest it and get it on their radar.Mtan Man214- that sounds like its probably not legal. However traffic laws are not my area, I deal more with highway issues and incident management than traffic laws.

I rescind my previous US 17 comments, apparently now this is the case:There are contracts that are funded to finish the 4 laning through Jones County from the end of the new bypass down to the current 4 lane in Onslow; thats scheduled to begin in 2015. The section from Bridgeton to NC 43 should be done in the next 6-8 years or so, with the extension of the New Bern bypass up to the same point sometime around 2022. The piece from Vanceboro to Chocowinity though is unfunded and is not likely to happen in the next 10 years. The other piece from North of Washington to south of Williamston is supposed to happen sometime around 2022 as well from what I understand.

Thanks for the response on hwy 17. I grew up, and still live, on the section of 17 thru jones county. We have heard the volume excuse ever since I can remember and it doesn't add up. I can assure you that the stretches through div 2 are highly traveled and highly dangerous, with several head on traffic collisions a year. At what point does traveling safety override watered down volume reports (volumes taken in the winter months vs summer during beach traffic)? I couldn't imagine that div 1 had higher volumes of traffic than div2 to warrant 4 laning first. Aside from the danger, I would still think that the coastal highway would be high on the list for tourism. I credit the lack of 4 laning to lack of political push.I will add though, we are seeing the ROW and initial surveying taking place from Onslow to craven, as you said, and that's a good thing! It just makes me wonder why this took to 2015 to figure out (yet Goldsboro gets a rarely traveled 795 a couple of years ago).

Why are most of the roads in, and leading into, downtown Raleigh absolute shit holes? (South Saunders being the exception) Probably the worst maintained roads in all of the capitol city. Since downtown is a focal point for the city's image and tourism this seems like an embarrassment to me. Obviously maintenance of roads comes down to $$$ but you would think that extra importance would be placed on the downtown area.Seriously, wtf?[Edited on April 22, 2014 at 10:25 AM. Reason : k]
