There is a point when the traffic just sucks so much when the left lane stops being only for passing, and starts being just another lane to chug along at 25-30 with the rest of the assholes.

I have it on good authority that this:deters tailgating

brake checking causes a ripple that travels in the opposite direction of travel. even if the person behind you doesn't get into an accident, the ripple can last for hours. so way to go possibly injuring or killing someone in an accident so you can make your point that you are a terrible driver!!
3/27/2014 9:05:07 AM
Alot of stupid itt. The left lane is for passing. It doesn't matter if I'm running 200 in the left lane (I'm passing) gtfo the way. Alot of you seem to have a traffic cop mentality, its not your job to regulate the speed. Speed limits are not about your safety as you seem to believe, it was originally about fuel conservation, now its for revenue.Brake checking me on the highway, leads to me returning the favor. And trust me my brakes are better than yours.

there is nothing rude about a couple quick flashes of your brights, a lot of people are in that lane because they aren't checking mirrors and just have no idea someone is behind them. flashing lights is just making them aware of you, its not rude unless you are being obnoxious about it.its the safe way to let people know you are behind them and would like to pass, tailgating them is dangerous. from a safe 2-3 second distance, flashing lights is an indication that you would like to pass. i usually start by putting on my left turn signal, that's all it takes for drivers who are aware of their surroundings. after a turn signal i will flash my brights if they have passed opportunities to change lanes and its obvious that they are just not aware that you are behind them. This isn't really a left lane complaint. But please, if I'm pulling my 20' trailer loaded down with shit, don't tailgate me. Especially when I am going the speed limit. Visibility is low and stopping/slowing down is a little more difficult when you're pulling a heavy ass trailer. Pass me or give me a little space, please.

How about the people driving in the right lane with NO ONE in front of them that merge into your lane right before you pass them, forcing you to hit the brakes. The good thing is you can pass them on the right. And with respect to passing on the right. It's time to merge right once the 100th person passes you on the right. Buy. A. Clue.
3/27/2014 2:42:08 PM
anyone that is in their own world while driving a car needs their head examined. I'm at my most alert behind the wheel, at any moment I can fuck up and die, or get fucked up by someone else. People that don't speed up while on the on ramp and merge into traffic 20+ mph below the limit piss me off more than left lane zombies. They piss me off more if I'm forced to pull the same slow merge because I'm behind you on the ramp.

^^^^yeah I dunno why he's laughing - must not understand traffic flows very well. BTW everything you've posted in here is top notch.I could write a novella on this topic but I'll just keep it short to keep everyone happy.A quick flash of the high beams or use of the left turn signal is the proper technique to politely inform the left lane hog in front of you that you want to pass. Look it up in all the instruction booklets - it's in there! So a collective fuck you to everyone that gets offended and/or pissed off when this is done to you. It's not a matter of who is right and who is wrong, or who is breaking the law more. If you're in the left lane (the passing lane) and you're holding up people you, and you alone, are being the instigating inconsiderate rude son of a bitch. So kindly get over and stop trying to bother other people.[Edited on March 27, 2014 at 2:49 PM. Reason : ^^]

When I put my left turn signal on, every person that's ever been in my car says "what is that supposed to mean". Thus NC people do not know the left signal rule. I had a guy ride my ass on 440 while I was passing cars going 80, when I got space to move over he switched lanes twice behind me. He slowed down real quick when I got behind him and put my high beams on.

it even happens in perfect conditions when everyone is doing things right, starting one with an input like slamming on brakes is even worsehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Suugn-p5C1Mhttp://math.mit.edu/projects/traffic/[Edited on March 27, 2014 at 4:28 PM. Reason : .]

Exactly. Given that my cars are both equipped with manual transmissions whenever possible I'll coast in gear instead of taping the brake (if the person in front of me does so). I do this in hopes that whomever is behind me won't tap their brakes either.(nevermind that it's good practice to not excessively tap your brakes anyway)[Edited on March 27, 2014 at 4:32 PM. Brake tappers deserve their own thread. I ended up kissing a guard rail on 95 because traffic was pretty congested and the people around me all continued tapping their brakes/panic braking. Until they didn't tap their brakes and the dumb cunt ran into a stopped car at 70+mph. Theres nothing worse than being a low car behind a panic braking suv.

3/27/2014 8:30:01 PM
the problem is 98% of the driving public are flat out morons. i work in the dot ops center with all the traffic cameras, i see the shit all day long. its not that there are large groups of speed limit in the left lane nazis, its just that people suck at driiving, pay no attention to their surroundings, and generally dont even know what road they are on. and yes, the brake tapping ripple does last for quite a while after the first person does it.

Its not about who is breaking the law, its about who is safer. The speeder is safer than the left lane blocked.
3/28/2014 7:01:34 AM
3/28/2014 7:17:45 AM
blocking the left lane isn't illegal unless you are under the speed limit in NC, so they couldn't pull you over. and that has nothing to do with which is safer.
3/28/2014 8:39:25 AM
I'll stop driving the speedlimit in the left lane, when it's socially cool to stop tipping.
3/28/2014 8:49:20 AM
If you are going the speed limit, why cant you do it in the right lane with everyone else? I'll never understand the "traffic cop" mentality some people have. I guess you feel safe to be a asshole in your car.

nvm, already posted above...Funny stuff. She was being a douche for not moving over, but his doucheness caused him to wreck. Lesson: It never pays to be a douche. That should've been my argument to begin with. Respecting others is the best rule. While in the left lane, if someone is coming up on your tail, and you have room to move over, be respectful and let them pass. And if you are the one going fast, don't tail gate or make dangerous and disrespectful moves while doing so.[Edited on March 28, 2014 at 1:26 PM. Reason : edit]
