Never understood the hate for acc teams outside of unc.
3/19/2014 11:09:09 PM
Yeah, why anyone would hate Maryland or respond to the E Man is beyond me.[Edited on March 19, 2014 at 11:13 PM. Reason : ]

Never understood people who liked schools we compete against year in and year out
3/19/2014 11:12:57 PM
^There is nothing wrong with cheering for other schools when they aren't playing your favorite school.
3/20/2014 12:44:38 AM
ACC schools? Yes there is. Especially schools we directly recruit against locally. Let's ignore games even. Would you rather see Duke get three of the top five recruits in the country?? Or some Pac12 team? I grew up a UConn fan but if they got an ACC invite I'd never want them to win a ACC title or land a high level recruit because it hurts us.I hate every other ACC team. I do have hierarchys of hate (Duke, Cuse, UNC) but I don't root for anyone.[Edited on March 20, 2014 at 7:59 AM. Reason : I've been that way in the past but I've learned conf pride is dumb. fuck them, get ours.]

I just can't muster up any hate for a team like Wake or VT. I can understand if you want to hate Duke (their fans can be pretty hateable) but let's pretend GT was in the tourney and they knocked off a 1 seed, that would be good for the conference and therefore State.

You rather those guys be recruited by duke and unc than end up at kentucky or somehwere else. its smart to want to play against good teams. if the teams you play against do well its boosts your credibility. thats the only reason we are in the tournament. maryland is not in the acc

I like Michigan because four of my cousins went there. I also like to see all the Louisiana schools do well.I hate UNC, Duke, Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, and generally fuck with people who chose a separate team for CBB/CFB. You're so good at picking front-runners, Crimson Tide football & Tar Heels basketball fan.
3/20/2014 1:06:27 PM
^^Exactly. they surged to the top 10 in 2012 without doing a whole lot.[Edited on March 20, 2014 at 1:11 PM. Reason : football is a bit different considering you need to go undefeated to have a chance ]

I'm a pretty big Dayton fan. Have been for going on five, maybe six, hours now.

Well add Iowa State to the list of teams I like that UConn has knocked out of the NCAA Tournament. Knock on wood, but the only ones they haven't knocked out are Northern Iowa and Drake.
3/28/2014 9:46:14 PM
Army won, Boise State probably will, Iowa won, and NC State won!Unfortunately Iowa State choked, Virginia Tech won, UNC won, and Nebraska won. At least Ohio State lost!
9/7/2014 12:44:06 AM
Not a bad year so far. Iowa beat Nebraska today, Ohio State lost a football game vs Michigan State, and Northern Iowa beat UNC in basketball. Hopefully the Hawkeyes win the national title since NC State won't be doing that this year.
11/27/2015 9:48:47 PM
I wouldn't consider myself a Duke fan, but I like seeing them win against everyone except State. I think it's an "enemy of my enemy" sort of appreciation for knowing how much Duke's success pisses off UNC fans.I despise seeing schools like Ohio State and Notre Dame get hyped into bowl games they don't belong in, and I've always had a huge disdain for Maryland. After living in Baltimore and hearing some stories from locals about how they felt NCSU robbed them of two national championship shots in the 70s, I don't feel so bad about them knocking us out of ACC Title contention in football a couple of times or beating us in the ACC Tournament when we have a 20+ point lead at halftime.

When I moved to the west coast I tried to find a team to cheer for. UCLA and USC have fun rivalries but shitty fans. I thought Stanford would be ok but football and basketball have both been inconsistent and it's hard to get behind it this "late" in life. I decided I will just cheer for UCSB soccer (because I live in SB and their fans throw tortillas) and against Cal in anything vs anyone. Berkeley is definitely the UNC of the west.Best tradition in college sports:[Edited on November 28, 2015 at 1:20 AM. Reason : -]
11/28/2015 1:17:28 AM
UCLA is UNC of California
11/28/2015 3:24:35 AM
Cal is definitely not the UNC of California- they never win shit. Stanford is more like the UNC of CA tbhIn reality, very few people give a fuck about college sports in the Bay Area and SoCal isn't much better. You would shocked at how weak the crowds are for Pac-12 games. The ACC puts them to absolute shame in game day experience.
11/28/2015 11:56:36 AM
I didn't mean is sports-wise, I meant UNC of CA because their students graduate feeling high and mighty, over-privileged, and think they're the shit "because I went to BERKELEY."I hate them for all the same reasons I hate UNC students. And that's why I cheer against their athletics programs
11/28/2015 9:29:30 PM
I don't care what their fans are like. USC has the Song Girls, and you can't hate on that.
11/28/2015 9:46:35 PM
^True. You can't hate on that.
12/2/2015 7:39:52 PM
^^^Well I guess you're happy today.
3/19/2016 12:38:58 AM
UConn is holding on to the #3 ranking right now and whoever #4 is isn't close.
3/28/2022 11:31:21 PM
For me it's something like:1. UNC2. Wake Forest3. Duke4. Vandy / NCAA5. UConn6. Wisconsin (obligatory fuck Brad Davidson)
3/29/2022 8:19:20 AM
Last night didn’t change my opinion of UConn. Sucks we lost but that’s the greatest Womens program of all time. UConn had the best player on the court and she caught fire. Imo, no reason to hate UConn for that.I hated UConn for knocking us out of that 2002 NCAAT but felt like we got revenge a couple years later. [Edited on March 29, 2022 at 9:02 AM. Reason : Shrug ]

I was staying on campus at UCLA a couple weeks ago for a conference, it was the first day of the tourney and the Bruins were playing, so a coworker and I went to a college bar next to campus for the game, expecting to get a cool experience. My coworker and I were probably the only people in the bar who were paying any attention to the game.
3/29/2022 8:27:36 PM
I mean, there's always the chance you just happened to hit the one lame bar, but otherwise, that's really telling of college athletics in CA, which, in general, is known for student apathy.^^ fair enough point. I didn't really hate their style of play or anything all that much. A bit aggressive, but not more than say Louisville (WBB) normally is. I guess I'm just more frustrated at their constant easy path in Bridgeport/Albany. In the last 20-some years they've played every one of their pre-Final 4 games in that region and lost only once.
3/30/2022 8:24:32 AM
Oh I agree. The Bridgeport thing is pretty crummy. Don’t really care if they’re a 1 seed and get the favorable treatment. But it’s kinda shitty to get favorable treatment as a 2 seed.
3/30/2022 8:49:43 AM
^^ CA college students do not give a flying fuck, and I've taught at a variety of places. They def care about the NFL/MLB/NBA, but college sports just don't matter to them. I think some of it is resentment that student athletes get special treatment, but it's also because the Pac-12 delivers such a weak product given how much money they have at their disposal. The biggest thing I miss about going to college in NC was that school spirit was palpable and brought everyone together. I may not have learned much at State, but the memories of tailgating for FB games and rushing the court when we beat ACC rivals in basketball will be cherished for a lifetime
