It needs to be noted that there is a difference between a really gross bar people in their late 20's enjoy going to and a gross bar.

There was a bar called Jackies 5th Amendment on a gentrified stretch in Park Slope that wasn't even fun to be in. The same sad fuckers were there everyday from 8am onwards and this crazy lady would yell at people who tried to touch the jukebox. It just smelled like death and crushed dreams. Im sure the scene hadn't changed in 3 decades. It recently shut down and the pharmacy next door is expanding.

also Philly has a huge number of dive bars that are extremely sad.

miss that place.

The Pickled Onion is my new dive now that Duffy's is gone. They also have quasi-legal gambling machines, at least for the time being.

doubt anyone has been to or heard of it but in Calabash there was a glorious dive called Nesbit's Jackass Saloon (aka Tsunami's, aka 518 Pub). The place was constantly trying to skirt the law in some way - gambling machines, having smoking post-ban by segregating the seating area, etc. It ended up burning down in what I assume was insurance fraud.

Now that I think about it, pretty much all of the bars in Calabash and Little River are pretty divey.

I remember one of my friends mentioning The Pickled Onion before...but I thought that they said it was a nicer kind of place.

I would not consider the pickled onion a nicer place.

Is Duffy's where Hibernian is now on Falls?

If so, my husband's friend had his rehearsal dinner there like 15 years ago
