bob might be an asshole, but bob got stacks on stacks.

ps - how would you judge whether or not bob had any conflict of interest? i mean, you bought 30000 people's PMs and pics, right? maybe one of them was an old rival you were getting dirt on. or maybe you're CIA and wanted trapezius' PMs.....

but it looks like it doesn't matter if you're not selling, i'll tell bob.

So about photo galleries:

I believe it used to be that if I uploaded a photo, it went into a folder that corresponded to my username (which made it possible to determine who originally uploaded a photo). There wasn't a function to copy someone's photo to your own gallery at first, so people would have to download then re-upload the photo.

Years and years ago, we got a copy function that would essentially just link a photo to your gallery, and there was only one actual copy of the image on the server. Usernames no longer appeared in the paths to the images. I believe all existing images got converted over to the new addressing scheme. People figured out that deleted photos didn't really get deleted as long as at least one gallery still had links to them.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that in the database, there's a table with records for all uploaded images and an xref table that actually links the photo records to individual galleries. Assuming that the photo records have a pointer to the uploader, it'd be trivial to remove gallery links for any images that no longer belong to their uploaders' galleries. It'd also be trivial to delete those images from the file system, and even easier if they aren't in the file system at all (i.e. just stored as BLOBs in the database).

It's been years, but I thought there didn't even have to be a copy of the deleted photo in another gallery, and once it was assigned that number, it always stayed.

i erased that one and its still there, i dont think anyone else would have copied that. lets try a real unique image that goes up now...

yeah, uploaded, got the number, deleted it, and posted it. no one else has that pic in their gallery

The state of TWW is pretty sad as of late. In the last few months, I've talked to 5 recent NCSU grads, and only 1 knew what TWW was...but he didnt have an account. Just that it was some "weird chat thingy"

What has TWW come to? Are we not blasting TWW all over everything on campus these days? And on top of it all, neither of the 5 people I spoke to even knew where Brent Rd. was....much less the ties to TWW. Sad day

All the students talk to each other using some other means, now

All the students talked to each other using some other means at every point in the Wolf Web's existence. That's a meaningless thing to say. It's actually kind of funny: When the Wolf Web started, practically everyone at State chatted over AIM, and the user profile's AIM presence indicator and Add to My Buddy List buttons reflect that.

In a way, that was the pinnacle of the Wolf Web's social media integration. The site's failure to adapt to Facebook was a huge stumble on the path, and now, online presence on the personal level is incredibly diffuse. There's a reason why tons of community sites like the Wolf Web offer multiple sign-in options from external services and two-way content sharing among those services.

from what I've heard, this site was the place to upload and share photos, and people registered for the photo galleries and some ventured into the message boards. so it seems like that wasn't going to survive after facebook added photos.

Yeah, the photo galleries were a big deal, but it wasn't just Facebook galleries that killed that. Photobucket was a big one, too, and Flickr.

But in other words, as soon as that draw was gone, there wasn't really an incentive to sign up. Right now this site is just a message board, and the existing users are pretty terrible towards new users and do everything they can to run them off. The UNC scandal and links to this site on twitter got me to register, and I've stuck around because I enjoy the political debate, but there isn't really anything to offer in general.

It's true. Instagram and snapchat are all photos. No one really talks to other people online

instagram and snapchat both built networks by offering places to post photos and share, this site no longer offers that in a meaningful way. there is no incentive to ever register for this site for photos, so there is no potential that people will eventually venture into message boards.

you guys are welcome to disagree, all 12 of you who post here

To me tww is a filter for the internet.

I see what I care about without having to sift through face book which is quite often a week behind the best thing you've seen on the internet today.

I like a lot of users on here and unfortunately subsequent generations a substantially douchier I mean bubble bobble would fit in but that's about it.

I miss tww of old but the truth is we don't like current students and we don't want to put up with them but we retire off probable 3% per year of active posters so you know that ends at zero sometime and is already not very profitable.

Sucks but we have killed our own e-home

Rip tww you will be missed.

Due to the nature of message board, much of the content is user generated. Make this place interesting through conversation stimulating threads and posts if you don't like the current message boards.

I still find TWW a unique gem on the internet, and will stay on it as long as it is around. I feel like I can always find an interesting tidbit on here without sifting through reddit, etc.
