Costco ad has a page not in the scan that says the Samsung TVs will have instant savings from 11/24 - 12/2, just doesn't say what the deals are

When it comes to Black Friday, I generally just ignore the busier stores like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy, but I do like going to places like Home Depot, Lowes, or Staples where you have a good chance of getting one of their better deals. Looking at Lowes though this year, their deals suck. HD has some good ones so I'll probably be going there and then to Target later in the morning to see if I can catch any of the toy deals once all the crazies have cleared out.

Nothing I really want this year or need.

I'll probably hit up Smithfield Outlets for new sneaks and Levi's

other than that, im sleeping in and saving money.

At the Walmart in Elkin, NC (pretty small town) this evening. Pathetic.

I agree with synapse: It's become passé to troll by saying the "PC Police" want us to change all instances of "black" (even those that aren't racial, or those that don't specifically refer to Americans) to "African-American"

With that said, I'm staying away from the stores, but I will keep the Vitamix in mind for the future.

[Edited on November 28, 2013 at 11:14 PM. Reason : That video shows the kind of stuff that led police officers in the '60s to coin "Black Friday"

^^my dad's side is from Elkin. very quaint place. the sold their land and moved when they got older but I miss that town in a way.

I just went to Best Buy in Myrtle Beach and it wasn't that bad - the line was long inside but it moved super fast.

I just got the Beats by Dre Pill (portable bluetooth speaker) and I'm going to return it. There's no bass whatsoever, which was opposite of what I expected being promoted by a rapper and when the headphones favor bass. Yes, I realize you're paying for the name and I should've done my research on it before hand.

It was a whim, I went with a friend to get the Surface tablet and just grabbed it because I needed one to replace my old system but I'm going for the Bose Soundlink unless somebody has a better suggestion.

Hiro, thanks for the link on those headphones--going to give them a try. Hoping if they fit properly I might be able to replace the over-ear noise cancelling set I use at work, and even if not, I lost my old mic-equipped buds so it'll be nice to have that functionality again plus better sound quality than the old ones.

Bit the bullet and purchased the Scala Rider G9 powerset.

Got it for $314 shipped. ($15 less than when I originally posted).

WOOOT

^ No problem! I was going to buy them myself, but the only time I would use it is if I were riding on the motorcycle. I just bought the G9 headset so the need for noise isolating earbuds is no longer desired.

If they don't fit, I would definitely look into getting a set of Comply foam tips.
http://www.complyfoam.com/

A quick search and they have different size tips as low as $10 iirc. Just an option if the factory tips aren't sufficient/comfortable.

For whoever was wanting/complaining about a Vitamix, Amazon has one of their limited-duration cyber monday week deals on one opening up at 11 AM. The exact data won't be available until the deal opens but it might be worth keeping an eye on.

Picked up a 42" LG LED-LCD, 1080p 120Hz, wifi, smart TV for $462 at HH Gregg. Perhaps not the most amazing deal in the history of mankind but I'm satisfied (their original "sale" price was equivalent to amazon and best buy, then an extra 11% off for Cyber Monday).

I'm still debating a portable laptop / low-end ultrabook in the $500 - $700 range. Looking at mostly 4th gen Intel Haswell processors. Would be fine with an i3 as long as it was Haswell, I guess. Mostly I'm looking at not-quite-ultrabooks--I think some call them ultra-portables. Stuff like the newer Lenovo lines pre-Yoga. Ideapads and the newer Flex line (though I'm not sold on it). Samsung ATIV Book 5, which is less powerful but definitely a truer ultrabook.

I went to best buy on thanksgiving night and they had a few Sharp 42" LED 1080p for 299.99. I kinda wished i had pulled the trigger, but then i wouldn't have been able to dump $825 on computer parts from newegg yesterday.

Plus we had family in town and I didn't want to go fight crowds on thanksgiving night

The deal was $279 for the 2-speed turbo blend. Reg amazon price appears to be $373. Still not cheap, but I guess they're renowned for a reason. (My recently purchased ninja seems to be pretty good for my purposes, but I don't know how long it will last or if the six blades will lose their edge quickly.)

I did not go into one store over the entire Thanksgiving weekend. I did spend ~$500 on various things via the web like $200 of Target gift cards for $180 via ebay, $125 for a 22 ft ladder (stoked about this), got my wife and her mother some great deals on K-cups, bought a few smaller items like 1 TB external hard drive for $35, some $4 blu rays, 2 pairs of cross trainer New Balance shoes for $50 (awesome deal) etc.

I really would have liked to have made it to Home Depot, but oh well. Next year I'm going to be in the market for a 60" TV as I think they'll be around $500. Wonder if 70" TVs will get in that $800 range.

I have the Bose one. Most of the reviews I read before buying either praised the loud bass or complained that it had too much bass compared to the Jawbone Big Jambox. I like it. It can sound a tiny bit muddled when there's a ton of mids and bass hitting at the same time, but that's a rare occurrence in most music. I got it on credit card reward points rather than paying cash, so it's hard to say that it's worth $300, but I can say that I don't really have any complaints with it.

FYI:
http://bgr.com/2013/11/20/lg-smart-tv-spying/

There's an update coming to properly prevent the TV from spying on you if it hasn't been released already. You might want to make sure it gets installed.

Saw that article before I purchased, so I'm keeping my eye on that. Until such time as it gets released, I don't plan to play any media off USB, connect to network shares, etc.

LG having a record of what channels I watch, what I view through Netflix, etc. isn't as big of an issue to me as that data already exists in the hands of the calbe company Netflix etc. Transmitting private data collected from storage media is a MUCH bigger problem.

There was a part of me that wanted to pass on the TV on principle. That part of me lost out to the "but it's the best value for the money" side.

It's people like me that are leading us down the path to Skynet, I suppose.

past two years have been very EHHHH and people are catching on that Best Buy only has like 3 items in stock.

I hate they move everything to Thanksgiving day...its ridiculous.

I'll be going on Friday for things like clothes and shoes..none of the electronics are worth waiting 12 hours.

For any parents of young kids out there...

Family Dollar has bogo on all toys in their store. It isnt the greatest selection in the world but I actually found plenty of non-lame stuff in their for my boys. Nobody really knew about the sale so I got to have my pick of everything. Very happy.

Sale is today only and they are open until early afternoon I think. Only catch is that they literally do it as a BOGO deal. If you buy 8 toys, your cheapest 4 toys will be free. Almost all of their significant toys are either $5, $10, or $20. I did 3 transactions, one for each price level to minimize any losses.

I would not be at all surprised to see significant changes in traditional black friday pricing, marketing, and hours of operations in the next couple of years. It's not even the biggest selling week of the year for the largest mass merchant retailers.

Expect it to be scaled back by 2017 or so, possibly even sooner given some of the results from this year.
