Just worked out for the first time since since last October.

Only did some sets for arms, shoulders, and legs with two 9 lb dumb bells, but damn it feels great. Will do push-ups and pull-ups in a couple of hours.

^^ lol. That really was some bullshit that guy claiming he could do 27 or whatever unbroken.

I guess I just take a different approach to working out/dieting. My goal is always to work hard in the gym and eat reasonably all the time. Cheat some, but not to excess. I keep carbs relatively low, but I do eat and drink a ton of dairy. It's worked for me and now that I am doing Crossfit, I am really starting to lean up a lot.

I guess if I got all crazy face style with the science and research on my diet, then I could make big gains/changes, but that is not my priority. I still want to enjoy my life and enjoy what I eat and not be miserable because my body does not know what the hell is going on.

So eggs for breakfast isn't working. What is another quick low carb breakfast option? High protein would be cool but not completely necessary. I get a decent amount of protein throughout the day.

do you want it to be a breakfast type food? country ham or bacon are options, although they're not nearly as nutritious as eggs. You could also just forego breakfast type foods and make a low-carb wrap if you're in a hurry in the morning.

Are you doing low-carb because of the insulin resistance or for other reasons?

I made a post on the front page if you want to check it out, but long story short I'm pregnant and went off my meds for insulin resistance and my weight spiked. Doc just wants me to watch my carbs. I have cut a lot out throughout the rest of the day and I was hoping to knock a few out of my breakfast. Eggs apparently make me puke now.

I haven't, but I was going to mention cinnamon at the next ob appointment. I used to take it when I didnt have health insurance. It wasn't as good as metformin but it did make a noticeable difference. I hadn't heard of chromium. I will ask about that, too. Thanks!

will oatmeal made from thick rolled oats or steel cut oats not do it? they are very low in glycemic index and contain a lot of fiber, fat, and protein. and you can also sprinkle cinnamon on top. not all carbs are the same. or, you can make porridge from oat bran. that is very low in carbs and very high in fiber and protein.

don't know, just thinking.

You can make a cereal out of nuts, I used to do that when I ate paleo. Almonds, pecans, walnuts, and macadamia nuts chopped up in a food processor. I would add some berries but you can skip those.

I can't get behind unsweetened oatmeal. But I guess beggars can't be choosers. The but thing sounds interesting. Might be worth trying.

hmmm... neither can i. perhaps a teaspoon or two of honey should suffice, and it shouldn't raise blood sugar either. or sweeten with a freshly chopped 1/2 banana mixed in, or a tablespoon of unsweetened raisins, dried cranberries, dried currants, etc. or fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, etc. you can/should also add nuts (i add pistachios and cashews) to your oatmeal. gives it a crunch, and adds protein and good fat. and don't forget the cinnamon.

all of those are horrible choices for a person experiencing insulin resistance.

I used to make my oatmeal with splenda and didn't really notice a difference. Unfortunately, they don't make a brown sugar version of splenda that isn't high in actual brown sugar.

What about yogurt? I usually have a big bowl of it in the morning and dump frozen fruit in it like blueberries and a little bit of vanilla. If you get the plain, there's very little added sugar.

I eat plain Greek yogurt for lunch. I could switch it to breakfast but then I'd have to find a new lunch. That wouldn't be terrible but it would have to be quick and high protein and something I wouldn't have to cook, which eliminates all meat for the pregnant woman.

I love cabbage and broccoli slaw and eat it in the mornings if I'm hungry. Just grab fistfuls out the bag and mix it up with vinegar/splenda/salt/pepper. Add oil for calories and to get some more of the vitamins out of the vegetables. I keep a batch in the fridge.

And why can't you eat meat for lunch? Do you have to avoid precooked meat? And is it bad for you to eat yogurt more than once a day?

It isn't bad to eat yogurt more than once a day, just boring. And yeah pregnant chicks are high fucking maintenance. You have to heat any meat, precooked or not, to steaming to kill any bacteria. Listeria or something.

I know it was just an example, but cold cooked poultry is specifically on the no no list.

I would absolutely follow up with my doctor. If you've cooked it yourself and taken the proper precautions against cross-contamination, then I can't imagine what the problem could be. No meat for lunch is ridiculous and totally unfair to you.

The no meat for lunch rule is mine because of the whole listeria thing. It is not convenient or practical for me and I would rather not worry about it. I eat meat at dinner. Greek yogurt at lunch has been working fine. I need breakfast help because eggs make me puke right now. Let's stay on topic.

I thought I was on topic. And I get that it's your rule because you don't have time to heat the meat up to steaming at lunch. But you should absolutely be able to eat cold meat that you have thoroughly cooked yourself. Of course, I'm not saying that you have to eat cold meat for lunch, and it sounds like you don't care, but I'm still putting that out there.

Anyway, there are a billion things you can eat for breakfast. Good luck to you.

may sound obvious, but protein shakes are good for breakfast. I like to add frozen berries and Ice to mine, but you can also make it with hot water and enjoy as hot chocolate.


have you tried the granulated truvia sweetener? I really like it, and i'm not really a big fake sugar fan (except in my precious diet coke).

2^i was going to ask if protein powders were OK next time I go to or call my doc. Truvia is the least offensive of the fake sugars, but I don't like eating them. They might trick your body in to releasing insulin which can pack on fat if you are resistant.

I worked for a family where the mom and both daughters hates the smell of eggs and would not eat them and the dad and son loved eating them. It was so bad at first that the son had to eat his eggs in another room. The girls eventually got used to it, but still complained.

These last few months with work have been very hectic, and I've let my diet and training fall apart as a result. Now that I'm a little bit more settled in with the apartment office, I'm getting back on track with my weight management. I'm trying to focus on weight loss primarily between now and the end of the year, with a goal of dropping 30 pounds. I've always gained muscle very easily, so my focus is solely on diet and cardio at this point.

I've been doing diet and intense cardio for a couple of months. I think I'll be stricter on the diet (no cheat days) and less cardio with more weights.

I'm trying to shift more focus to cardiovascular health and just being lighter overall as I get older. I've always put muscle on easily, but taking weight off has been a struggle.

I'm also trying to nurse a tendonitis issue I've developed. Surprisingly the pain goes away when I lift and seems to have come about more from playing golf, but lots of lifting volume can't be good for it.

elise - I highly recommend looking into chromium for blood glucose regulation. Therapeutic doses are anywhere from 200 to 1000 mcg/day. Look for chromium picolinate if you're going for the supplement route. Food alone won't provide you with that much chromium, but good sources are broccoli, green beans, brewer's yeast, whole grains, and potatoes. But of course talk to your doctor about it first

My fitness goals for 2014:
-weight: 155-160lbs (currently 165lbs)
-body fat: 25% or less (so I can be desirable to tdub men)
-strength: be able to perform at least 2 consecutive pull-ups (being a tall female really makes this difficult )
-cardiovascular: 1/2 marathon in under 2.5 hours (last year my knee gave out around mile 10, so this goal is easily attainable as long as that doesn't happen again)

Thanks! I do eat lots of broccoli and my husband loves green beans so we will start with that and I have chromium on my list for the next appointment.

Chromium helps give emeralds their green color so it makes sense that green foods have it.

While I don't always like everything that goes on in this thread, TWW is still very much a big ole dysfunctional family. I'm also trying to come to terms with where I have been, where I am, and where I would like to go.



I'm 5'2" and I've lost over 30 pounds. Over the last year, I've lost countless inches and 7% body fat. I would like to drop another 30 pounds and another 7%. I am not working any program, but making incremental lifestyle changes.

I'd also like it if we can get some other TWWers who are a little more like me to get involved in this thread.
