Did I just witness match fixing? When anyone else sees the Madrid highlights from today chime in. There is absolutely no way that should EVER be a penalty at any point in any game. Pepe should have been whistled for a foul if anything. Something is fishy about the way that went down with the call/time etc[Edited on September 25, 2013 at 9:22 PM. Reason : .]
9/25/2013 9:22:13 PM
I don't know what that call was. I don't know if it was match fixing because most people don't just bet on games to be won/lost. Certainly nobody was going to make money due to Madrid simply winning. Most people bet on whether a certain player scores at a certain time or what the margin of victory will be or something. I honestly just think that was the worst call I have ever seen (after the card on Besler).
9/25/2013 10:27:24 PM
There were quite a few controversial calls leading up to that. Ramos should have been sent off earlier in the match for taking down a guy in the box that was 100x worse and the ref swallowed the whistle there, but then was eager to blow on a complete bullshit call in the 94th.If that was a foul about 6 pens could be called on every corner from now till the end of time.highlight link http://footyroom.com/elche-1-2-real-madrid-2013-09/that elche goal was beautiful btw

Neymar really made a meal of that kick. Acted as if he had been shot and got the guy sent off.I can see a little bit of what happened to Spurs last season in Barca. They're so dependent on Messi to get the job done that they look lost when he isn't in there despite all of them being accomplished players in their own right.

that milan penalty was just as bad as the madrid
10/1/2013 8:05:14 PM
Just so those highlights and that is absolutely horrible. I thought the 4th official was put into place to try and prevent things like that Balotelli dive. I'm completely convinced the ref didn't see it and just saw two guys go to ground there. Also, that first Dortmund goal was a passing clinic

Tried not to but its about time I really question Moyes' ability. Tonight and the last 5 matches (barring Leverukusen) has me worried and at a loss for words as to how a free scoring United team from last year can go from that to absolutely no creativity. Moyes seems to have no plan B. If Plan A goes to shit then that's it, game over, see you next week. Its ridiculous. Against City he couldn't be bothered to use all three substitutions available to him. Today he takes off a defensive player for a grandfather and doesn't use any of the attacking options available either. If we were playing Bayern today with those tactics the scoreline would have been close to 10-0 I think. We have the best striker up front and creative outlets like Nani and Kagawa on the bench. Yet we play Valencia. Its just terrible. I can see all three leaving by next year if this is the modus operandi. Moyes has to adapt to the modern game or he is going to be out of a job by December. This is his only chance to impress and forge a legacy but he will have to be a lot more adventurous than being a typical British manager who prefers defense and strength over guile and pace. Its just depressing to watch these days.
10/2/2013 7:47:19 PM
Chill bro. We're taking one step back now, but Moyes will take us two steps forward. Give him time...
10/2/2013 7:51:35 PM
^ I am all for giving him time, but within reason. If we aren't in the top 4 come December he has to go. The least he could do with a title winning squad is make top 4. If he can't even do that then he just isn't cut out for Man United.
10/2/2013 7:54:35 PM
This team isn't a title winning team. Fergie made it one. Look at our fucking midfield. No way should it have won the league last year.
10/2/2013 7:56:58 PM
The team isn't a title winning team this year maybe but are you seriously saying it isn't a top 4 team? Ridiculous. I also still believe we have enough quality to win the title, we just have to use it properly and play the right tactics.
10/2/2013 8:05:37 PM
It really is pleasurable seeing a spoiled fan base get brought back to the reality that 98% of all the clubs in the world live in. There are ebbs and flows to everything in sports and many teams have had "glory years" (or even decades in United's case) and eventually fall back in the pack. Man U had a titanic run under Fergie, but it's over and they will never be that dominant again. Fergie WAS United.Just hope to keep decent players around and have that odd year when they rise up and win something. Even that is more than almost all clubs and fans will ever enjoy in their lifetimes. For the record I'm not trolling, just trying to call like I see it. Duke fans should be watching closely because this is exactly what will happen to their bball program when K retires.
10/2/2013 8:39:57 PM
^Good point. Our rise to prominence was similar to Duke's. But we were always the most popular and well supported club in England(Stadium attendance numbers) and were also very successful from the late 40s to the late 60s under Sir Matt Busby. In the 90s though, we just happened to be at the right place at the right time(same goes for Duke and Michael Jordan), with the Sky television money and also going public freeing funds for us to compete in Europe. Now we are back to being just one of the top 4 clubs in England. We almost won the league every other year under Fergie. It ain't gonna happen under anyone else. Not under Moyes, Guardiola, or Mourinho. Winning the league maybe once in 4 years would be awesome, perennial top 4 would be sweet, and reaching the European club semi final every once in a while would be nice too. The Fergie years won't be repeated ever, and I'm alright with it
10/2/2013 9:05:24 PM
That's exactly why you can't fire Moyes after ~6 months. It's chasing ghosts to rifle through a bunch of managers trying to reclaim that glory when stability is the smart move. There's no reason to panic if y'all aren't top 4 come Dec. In my opinion there's no reason to panic even if you don't finish top 4 at the end of the season considering the manager change. It's going to take some time to get everyone on the same page inside the organization.
10/2/2013 9:31:44 PM
I haven't watched a whole lot of United this season. How much of the drop-off is due to player performance?
10/2/2013 10:32:09 PM
We have been the same way we finished last season under Fergie. There is no urgency to score late goals, central midfield lacks teeth, but our wing play is the main problem with Nani and Valencia not able to get crosses in for vPersie and Rooney. I think we are yet to score from open play this season in the PL. Moyes could have easily retained Fergie's complete backroom staff and played the same system like Tito did at Barca. But he did not which is good, because ideally he's our manager for years to come and needs to stamp his own identity.[Edited on October 2, 2013 at 10:49 PM. Reason : And Howard Webb seems a little disobedient too]
10/2/2013 10:42:42 PM
Just watched that Juve replay and that team's passing is a shit show outside of Pirlo.Pogba thinks he is 10x better than his actual skill level. I can see why he would drive a manager mad.
10/2/2013 11:50:38 PM
10/3/2013 8:37:02 AM
Expecting a drop in performance and not being dominant is one thing but finishing outside of the top 4 with the quality we have is just unacceptable and points to the Manager's inability. It isn't spoilt to want success, Sir Alex has left Moyes a good squad, certainly a top 4 squad. Moyes has so far proven to be a dinosaur. We haven't played like Sir Alex from last year at all. United had much more attacking intent and drive to win. This year we can't even respond when we are down a goal. West Brom and Shakthar wouldn't have left their own half if we were losing/drawing with 15 minutes left. Arsenal have gone from struggling for 4th to a legitimate title challenger with 1 player. Dortmund barely spend any money and have been fantastic. These two teams have managers who have adapted to the modern game and play good football with players that are available to them. We have Nani, Kagawa, Rooney, RVP, and Carrick to form a really good attacking partnership. Yet we are absolutely clueless going forward and our most creative midfielder can't get match time. That is clearly on Moyes. He needs to realize that Man United isn't Everton and we don't rely on brute force but guile and speed. I am giving him till December (or till another embarassing loss, which could legitmately happen at Sunderland on saturday.) So far he hasn't impressed and I really hope this isn't how he plays on a regular basis.[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 12:19 PM. Reason : .]
