To be fair it does matter where this house is located. As was mentioned earlier you cant really have a house that is dramatically different looking than others in the area.Especially if this is a McMansion surrounded by other McMansions or if its located in Cary or something. They could have literally been told what cladding/color to use.Or given like, 3 to choose from. I imagine the vinyl is temporary in any case. Probably just building up more bank.

^^It still seems more like a very large, practical house with some nice considerations than a McMansion.^^^^AHA, this is the kindest thing anyone has ever said to me. Let's do it.
8/13/2013 1:38:36 PM
I don't think a McMansion would have vinyl siding.
8/13/2013 1:53:34 PM
I don't like vinyl siding either (our [first] house has it for various reasons but I hate it); however, there are lots of crappily-designed or engineered houses out there with brick or stone veneer as well. He has taken the time to have a lot of other things well-engineered and designed in that house.Just like there are lots of kitchens with poor-quality cabinetry or poor layouts, but granite or quartz etc. Having the whole pie would be good, but most people have budget constraints and it sounds like for them that having the extra space was more important than having a nicer siding. Everyone will fall on different sides of that choice (I'd personally go smaller lot and smaller house with the ability to top out all the finishes), but it's not the end of the world given everything else they have done.[Edited on August 13, 2013 at 2:14 PM. that's the thing though. I agree it is pretty large and it has vinyl siding, but from what I have seen so far, it is far from poorly built. Not the best of the best, but certainly above average construction in most of the subdivisions people would consider "mcmansions"[Edited on August 13, 2013 at 4:01 PM. Reason : ]

It reminds me of when someone drops 22s or some oversized wheels on a Lexus, but then doesn't cough up the money to lower it properly. Tacky is probably a better word than anything.

haters gonna hate

Props to him for having the money to build a custom home, but if you come to a place like TWW and are surprised that people will trash you for putting plastic siding on said home after you post a ton of pictures...
8/13/2013 4:11:16 PM
^ Yea props to him for having the credit to finance a custom home.
8/13/2013 5:26:06 PM
Oh he's borrowing money to pay for a house with plastic siding?Shoulda borrowed more then

yeah, the reason i'd love to have 10 (or more) acres isn't so I can play fucking safari every time I go outside. it's so I have enough space to do anything I want, and don't have to bother with neighbors.i, too, would want a shooting range (1000 yards) and an airstrip, and in a perfect world, some waterfront. That shit takes a lot of space.
8/14/2013 3:58:40 PM
you better find a whole lot more than 10 acres. a 10 acre rectangle that is 1000 yards on one side would be less than 50 yards on the other side.
8/14/2013 4:06:38 PM
yeah, i know, i've done the math.i just mentioned 10 acres because that was the number thrown out originally.

98% of posters ITT obviously know nothing of home construction. Off with you trolls.

8/15/2013 5:14:34 PM
he should build a moat around his house
8/15/2013 5:33:38 PM
what about a river you could stock trout in? is that feasible?

doesn't make much sense in a laundry room, either--such small square footage isn't very expensive to do the right way.a basement might make sense.
