Best Buy order is supposed to arrive Aug 21st... let's see if that one gets bumped
8/10/2013 8:19:22 PM
It's a little buggy using iPhone to control Netflix. Freezes up and have to close out Netflix and restart. Works good to stream from browser I've been happy with that part.

My Best Buy order arrive today holy shit
8/14/2013 5:35:51 PM
So it connected to my Windows laptop just fine. Tested youtube and it was great, tested streaming from wral.com & abc.com and it was laggy, eventually froze, and I only got audio from both sites.Tried to connect my linux laptop via the setup site, it says there is no chromecast on my network (fair enough, there is no linux support)Tried to connect my Droid Razr Maxx via the app, it says there is no chromeccast on my network. Not a positive experience so far[Edited on August 14, 2013 at 6:46 PM. "Your Amazon.com order of "Google Chromecast HDMI..." has shipped!"Should be here Tuesday, sweet! Hopefully that Netflix code isn't far behind it.

Itching for it.http://gizmodo.com/aircast-turns-chromecast-into-an-android-airplay-1165893246"Koushik Dutta has been working on stream-everything functionality for the Chromecast for a while, and now the first version of his new app Aircast is proving that it works. If you've got Aircast, all you have to do is play video from Google Drive, or Dropbox, or something stored locally, and pick Aircast in the share menu. It's that easy."

So tab casting sucks so far from what I have tested.... anyone have better success? I did not buy this to only use Netflix and Youtube, my tvs already have those apps
8/24/2013 3:36:25 PM
just ordered one...maybe itll get here by October
8/24/2013 9:36:14 PM
The Best Buy in Crossroads Plaza in Cary had several in stock on Thursday. Three months of Netflix is applicable as well
8/24/2013 11:45:43 PM
maybe I should have checked my local best buy
8/25/2013 10:50:32 AM
womp womp, google's not a fan of casting videos it cannot profit from: http://www.theverge.com/2013/8/25/4657202/google-blocks-chromecast-app-that-let-you-stream-own-videosI'm still debating getting one, someone will have to see how hard it is to work around the OTA update
8/25/2013 10:43:01 PM
since they're back in stock online, i went ahead and ordered one...i may refrain from opening it for a week or two, though
8/26/2013 2:23:08 PM
Getting mine via Google this week, the Google Play store says ships in 2-3 weeks if you want to order there.https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=chromecast^^ Also read the update.... not broken permanently:

So I have a problem. I have enough HDMI inputs on my receiver (HTPC, PS3, AppleTV, Wii, Chromecast, + 3 empty) and the receiver max resolution is 4k; but my 55" Sony Plasma only has a DVI input and maxes out at 1080i, and no, I'm not upgrading until this one dies, the picture is still beautiful.Anyway, the problem is that while my receiver can upscale to 4k (or in my case, 1080i as needed), it cannot downscale when a device (say, the Chromecast) has a default resolution of 1080p when its resolution auto-detection fails. I can see it as it boots up and the resolution flashes between 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p ... and then it stays there and I have a blank screen.Except for the video output not being correct, casting works like a charm for audio, and I have no issues with the HDMI input on my monitor.Any suggestions on getting the Chromecast to set a lower resolution, or tips on tricking the auto-detection?Thanks.
8/26/2013 4:43:20 PM
I've seen that issue come a few times in forums. It's sort of a known issue. From what I've seen, there's no fix for it currently. But it's something that they can remedy in an update by making a lower resolution the default and then letting you select a higher resolution if you want.So I'd be surprised if they didn't resolve it soon with an update.

Would this thing be useful for tailgating?Say i have a tv or display in my truck bed...could i essentially hook this up and run my laptop or even iphone to play streaming media via the watch espn app?I have unlimited data so that wouldnt be an issue
8/27/2013 7:39:44 PM
as long as you have an HDMI port in whatever device you'd be using, I wouldn't see why not
8/27/2013 8:15:51 PM
and wifi/tethering
8/27/2013 9:58:11 PM
Got mine. I notice we cant cast WatchESPN because the pop up doesnt have the casting option.
8/31/2013 3:39:40 PM
For watch espn all you have to do is copy the url from the popup box and paste it in your main chrome browser window. I did it the other day, but it lags really bad
8/31/2013 4:23:52 PM
Mine finally shipped. Should have it on Monday.
9/6/2013 3:10:14 PM
got mine last week...played around with it a bitit's neat, especially since it only costs $11 or so

played around with mine for a few days now. It's cool, worth the price. Biggest use for me is Youtube. I have a Youtube app on my BluRay player, but for whatever reason I can never log into it to play shit I've saved in my account. This works wonderfully for that.
9/11/2013 3:58:57 PM
Finally reached out to Amazon since I never got my Netflix code ... and a few hours later I have it in my email and get it applied.A discount of $23.97 has been applied to your account. Thanks Google for such a great deal!
9/13/2013 2:57:39 PM
Chromcast just arrived. I like using it with my tablet. Its nicely integrated. I'd like a chromecast player on my computer, instead of opening a video in the browser and playing it that way.
9/13/2013 6:42:37 PM
I'm about to return this shit, I can't get it to connect
9/13/2013 8:24:27 PM
Really? I had problems when I manually typed my wifi password... But when I clicked "get password" it worked
9/13/2013 9:38:53 PM
it can't connect to my networki turned off the 5Ghz and don't have AP isolation and its not working and the help menu doesn't provide me any other clues for how to make it work. I tried completely uninstalling chromecast and starting over and haven't had any luckyeah fuck this shit, i don't have any kind of weird router setting or network configuration. upnp enabled?
9/13/2013 10:09:10 PM
yepEdit:my friend with the same router said he had problems but knows how to fix it.so assuming I get this setup correctly, it only casts browser tabs, right? I can't use this to watch a .mkv video on tv?[Edited on September 13, 2013 at 10:29 PM. Reason : .]
9/13/2013 10:11:09 PM
i read some people have better luck using the wall wart
9/13/2013 10:29:24 PM
i don't have a free usb on the tv, so i was already using that(so per googling you can play local .mkv files if you navigate to them in the browser, but the performance may not be great)[Edited on September 13, 2013 at 10:46 PM. Reason : .]
9/13/2013 10:33:18 PM
That is correct. For now, anyway.[Edited on September 14, 2013 at 12:02 AM. Reason : .]
9/14/2013 12:01:58 AM
His trick didn't work, but I reset the router to factory settings and reinstalled my network adapter, and then reinstalled my network adapter again, and then it started working.i hope that they improve the performance for local files, that would be awesome
9/14/2013 9:58:50 AM
got mine todaytrying to figure out the best way to play an .MKV file ... I can play the file in a chrome tab, but chrome can't play the sound for some reason
9/16/2013 11:19:25 PM
I'm not seeing any value in this until it can play .mkv well
9/17/2013 12:27:10 AM
anyone know of somewhere in the Raleigh/Cary area that I can walk in and buy a chromecast? The bestbuy website says it's shipping only.
11/14/2013 12:35:23 PM
can you not get it next day through Amazon?
11/14/2013 1:19:51 PM
I'm sure i could. But I'd like to get it from a store so i can return it more easily if i have to.
11/14/2013 4:21:36 PM
Have you gone to the store and checked their stock? After that initial rush with netflix promo I've always seen them stocked at the Google display area.
11/14/2013 4:28:58 PM
nah, I checked the "store availability" on the website and it said shipping only (as in it's not available in the store). Other products show what stores they're in just fine. So I assumed they weren't available in the store any longer.I have to run by there in a bit, I'll just stop in and check since you've seen them there.
11/14/2013 6:44:25 PM
it would be halfway to your house by now if you placed an order on Amazon
11/14/2013 7:36:22 PM
I almost edited my post to clarify while it was two BBs and one of them was two separate occasions, neither were in RTP area.
11/14/2013 9:24:13 PM
I saw a whole bunch of them at the BB up here when I was buying my tv
11/14/2013 10:42:26 PM
it sucks....needs other stuff than netflix or it will die.
11/15/2013 8:23:15 PM
Yeah, BB in crossroads had a bunch right at the entrance. Not sure why their website says they're only available via shipping. I got one last night, but couldn't get it to work with my phone. Gonna try setting it up with a laptop in a bit.^ I don't want to use it for anything but watching football streams from chrome really. Got rid of cable a while back, just use a Roku mostly. But I wanted a way to get NFL streams to my tv without running a cable. If I can do that for $35, I'll be happy to be honest.I run a pled media server. Someone told me I could use the gamepass channe to stream nil gamesl. But it's unavailable in the US. If I can get that to work using a vpn, I'll return the chrome cast. If anyone has experience with that, i'd be invested in hearing about it.
